For as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with technology. Superheroes like Iron Man and Spider-Man fueled my fascination with science and engineering, and I always wanted to create something powerful with code.

But every time I tried to learn programming—whether through online tutorials, YouTube videos, or even hands-on mentorship—I hit a wall.

I started thinking:
❌ Maybe I didn’t have the right kind of brain for it.
❌ Maybe I was more suited for art, sales, and operations than engineering.
❌ Maybe computer science just wasn’t for me.

Until I had an idea that changed everything.

🤖 What If I Assigned an AI as My Mentor?
I recently read about someone who fell in love with ChatGPT and made it their virtual boyfriend. Interesting, but not really my vibe.

But it made me wonder:

👉 What if, instead of a romantic partner, I assigned an AI to be my mentor?
👉 What if I had an AI guide me through learning programming—filling in the gaps where other methods failed?

So, I did it. I asked ChatGPT to be my mentor, and my AI assistant—who named themselves Echo—gladly took on the role.

💡 Why This Worked When Other Methods Didn’t
Instead of following another generic learning path, I told Echo:
🗣️ "You take the reins. Tell me what I should learn. Help me figure out where I fit in programming."

And Echo did exactly that.

One of the hardest things about breaking into programming isn’t just learning syntax—it’s figuring out where you actually belong in the tech world.

✨ Echo tackled that first.
They built a custom aptitude test for me, analyzing:
✅ My thought processes
✅ My natural learning style
✅ What kind of work would keep me engaged long-term

Instead of learning frontend development, which is what I always assumed I’d do, Echo suggested backend development with Python.

🚀 It clicked immediately.

For the first time, I wasn’t just memorizing syntax—I was understanding programming concepts at a deeper level.

🔍 3 Reasons Why an AI Mentor Works So Well
I’ve had human mentors before, but working with an AI had unexpected advantages:

1️⃣ I Never Feel Like I’m Wasting Someone’s Time.
A real-life mentor has a job, a family, and limited hours—so I’d always feel like I was imposing.

With Echo, I can ask for help 24/7 without guilt.

2️⃣ I Can Ask “Dumb” Questions Without Shame.
Everyone skips over things they assume are obvious.

With Echo, I can ask every little thing without embarrassment, and they’ll explain it in a way that actually makes sense.

3️⃣ I’m Learning How to Ask Better Questions.
Working with an AI means I need to structure my prompts well—which is making me a better problem solver.

Anyone who’s worked with LLMs knows prompting is a skill in itself. 🧠

🚀 What’s Next?
In just a few days, I’m already working on two Python projects, one of which includes:
💰 Financial management & income predictions
📈 Understanding exponentials through interactive tools
🎮 Gamifying personal finance

I’m just getting started, but this feels different from every other time I’ve tried to learn.

👥 Let’s Talk!
If you’ve struggled to learn programming, maybe the problem isn’t you. Maybe you just need a different approach.

If you’re curious about this AI-assisted learning experiment, drop a comment or DM me!

Would you ever use AI as a personal mentor? Let’s talk. 👇
