The Story Behind Shoverlay

A while ago, I came across a few people saying that CleanShot X was pretty popular, so I decided to download it and give it a try.
After playing around with it for a while, I suddenly had a somewhat ambitious thought:
“Wait... I think I could build something like this myself.”
And that's how it started.
As a developer, once I had the idea, I figured I might as well give it a shot. So I started coding, little by little. Whenever I ran into something I didn't know how to do, I'd look it up or ask AI for help.
I have to say, AI has made a pretty big difference to my development speed. Problems that might have taken me a long time to figure out in the past can sometimes be solved much faster with a few questions and some guidance from AI.
After roughly a month of work, I finally had most of the features I wanted working.
Then came the next challenge: naming it.
I went through quite a few ideas and eventually decided to call it Shoverlay.
After that, I wrote the copy, packaged everything up, submitted it for review, and... it actually got published.
There's something pretty satisfying about going from a random idea to having a real Mac app that people can actually download and use.
But then I realized something:
Writing the code might not be the hardest part. Getting people to discover it is. 😂
I honestly don't know much about marketing.
How do you find your first users?
Should I focus on X, Reddit, or Product Hunt?
Should I write technical articles, make short videos, or try something completely different?
What kind of content do people actually want to see?
All of this is pretty new to me.
So now I'm going to start figuring it out, one step at a time. And I'd love to hear from people who have been through this before.
If you have any experience with indie development, international marketing, or promoting Mac apps, I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
