This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle

 What I Built

ReceiptSort AI is a web application that helps users organize expenses, upload receipts, track spending, view expense summaries, and export their records as CSV files.

I built this project to explore how AI-assisted receipt extraction can simplify everyday expense tracking. It could be useful for students, freelancers, and small businesses that want a simple way to manage their expenses.

 Demo

Live app: https://receiptsort-ai.streamlit.app/

 Code

GitHub repository: https://github.com/Reyan-khan1811/ReceiptSort-AI

The repository includes the application code, dependencies, setup instructions, and an MIT License.

 How I Built It

I built ReceiptSort AI using Python, Streamlit, Pandas, and Plotly. The app includes expense entry, receipt image uploads, expense history, visual summaries, and CSV export.

The current receipt-extraction feature uses Google's Gemini API to process receipt images. I have not yet replaced that integration with an open-weight model.

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation helps developers learn from existing projects, inspect implementation choices, share improvements, and build on one another's work. I published the application code under the MIT License to make it accessible for learning, experimentation, and future contributions.

This project helped me gain practical experience building, deploying, and sharing an AI-assisted application.

 What I Learned

I gained hands-on experience with Python, Streamlit, API integration, data visualization, GitHub, and deploying a working web application.

Thanks for checking out ReceiptSort AI!
