Inspect Archive Contents Before Extracting with ZipMania

An archive can contain many files, but you may only want to check a photo or read a text file. ZipMania is a free, open-source archive manager for Windows 10 and 11 with previews for supported images and text files inside archives.

Browse first

Open an archive by double-clicking it or using the Windows Explorer context menu. Browse the folders and locate the files you need. Supported archive formats include ZIP, RAR, 7Z, EGG, ALZ, and ISO.

Preview supported files

Check a supported image or text file without extracting the entire archive first. For example, you can inspect photos or read a readme before choosing what to unpack. Preview availability depends on the file type and archive contents.

Extract what you need

Once you have checked the contents, select the files you want to extract. Browsing and previewing can help you decide which files belong in your working folder.

Keep trust separate from preview

A preview is not proof that an archive is safe. Be careful with files from unknown sources, especially executables and scripts. Opening an archive successfully is not a reason to run unfamiliar files.

Choosing Memory Cleanup Settings on Windows with MemoryCleaner

Memory cleanup is easier to understand when you know what it will clean and when it will run. MemoryCleaner is a free Windows utility with manual and automatic cleanup options.

Choose the cleanup items first

Open Settings and review “Cleanup items.” You can select which memory areas to clean. Automatic cleanup follows these selections too, rather than using a separate list of targets.

Start with the default selections instead of enabling every option. Change one setting at a time and check how your usual applications behave.

Why some options are disabled

Clearing the entire standby list or the modified page list can cause brief pauses during gaming or video playback. These options are disabled by default. Having an option available does not mean you need to turn it on.

Decide when cleanup should run

Cleanup can run on a timer or based on memory usage. MemoryCleaner can also clear cache when cache has grown and available memory is running low. If you prefer direct control, use the manual cleanup button. An option to skip cleanup during full-screen use is also available.

A lower memory number is not proof of better performance

Windows uses cache to keep data available for reuse. Clearing it may mean loading that data again. Focus on responsiveness in the applications you use, not just the displayed memory percentage.

If cleanup causes pauses, review the selected items or use manual cleanup instead. Cleanup is not a replacement for adding RAM when your workload needs more of it.

What the settings tell you

The cleanup item list shows the types of memory selected for cleanup. It does not preview individual contents before they are cleared.

MemoryCleaner is free for personal and commercial use, and a portable version is available. The executable is around 110 KB, including its code signature; this is not the installer size.

A ZIP engine designed for parallel processing

When creating ZIP archives, ZipMania can process multiple files in parallel. For large files, it can also divide the data into chunks for parallel deflate. This gives users another way to make use of available CPU resources during compression. Actual results depend on the files, hardware, and settings.
