The quality of your AI interface depends on how well it handles errors

AI demos typically focus on the “ideal scenario”: the user enters a query, the model returns a useful response, and everything looks easy and straightforward.

But in real-world products, things rarely go that smoothly.

The model may misinterpret the input, return incomplete information, or provide an answer that sounds confident but is actually incorrect.

This creates an interesting challenge in the field of user experience: how should the interface communicate uncertainty without making the entire user experience feel unreliable?

I believe there are three key points to consider:

Visibility: Can users tell when the system is providing an estimate rather than a verified result?

Correction: Can they easily correct an incorrect result?

Recovery: Does the interface offer a clear next step when the model gives an incorrect answer?

The goal isn’t to make AI seem infallible. The goal is to make its limitations understandable and manageable.

I’m curious how other developers approach this, especially when AI outputs become part of the user’s workflow rather than just a response in a dialogue.

What AI error-handling pattern do you find particularly effective?
