why can't we use multiple types on input fields?

I have tried and failed to find a pure CSS way of making a password-styled input field also pull up a numeric keypad on mobile on Firefox. (Deprecated support of
text-security: disc
on
type=number
inputs, for one failed example.)

It seems like this problem would be solved if we could say an input had types of both
password
and
number
or
tel
.

What is it about how how
input
works makes us unable to design browsers this way?

As a software architect, what has your career path looked like?

I am in the early years of my career, and I know my goal but I'm still working out how to get there. If you have insight into one of the varied career paths that lead to Software Architect, I'd love to hear it.

To be clear, I know there's no "do XYZ and you've made it!" I am looking to collect stories and experiences to serve as points of reference as I move forward in my career and evaluate things like skills, languages, and tools to learn and use. I appreciate your input!

Nevertheless, Rachel Krantz Coded

 I began coding because...

I wanted to make my own RPG site. That was in middle school. Unfortunately, I was also very shy and insecure, and going to high school -- a high school without computer science classes, at that -- led to me stopping my self-learnings in code. I didn't want to be nerdy. (It backfired -- I was anyway! You can't fight who you are :))

Fast forward to post-college, and I restarted coding because I still wanted to build things. I'm a creator at heart.

 I'm currently hacking on...

Building programs to help other people like me learn to code -- women who "missed the boat" on majoring in CS in college, and now don't have the time or money to attend a bootcamp.

Also, Django, devops (just got promoted and trying to learn all the overwhelming things), and Big Nerd Ranch's Front End Dev book. We're working through the BNR book in a programming book club (that I started!), and we are learning so much as a group it is invigorating.

 I'm excited about...

Getting women jobs in tech.

Building THINGS. And STUFF.

My advice for other women who code is...

Don't let fear hold you back. It's cool to be afraid, just don't let it hold you back. Embrace it and talk about it, and you'll find you're not that unique.

If you wish something existed to help you in a specific way, and it doesn't, make it.

Join a learning group, or make one if there isn't one around you. The energy you get from being part of a group will propel your learning forward much faster than if you go at it alone.

You are never alone.
