Building a Smart Weather Station Using ESP8266, DHT11 and Blynk

 Introduction

In this project, I built a Smart Weather Station using an ESP8266 NodeMCU, a DHT11 sensor, and the Blynk IoT platform. The system monitors temperature and humidity in real time and sends the data to a cloud dashboard that can be accessed from anywhere.

This project helped me understand the fundamentals of IoT, sensor integration, cloud connectivity, and embedded programming.

 Components Used

ESP8266 NodeMCU

DHT11 Temperature and Humidity Sensor

Jumper Wires

Breadboard

Blynk IoT Platform

Arduino IDE

 How It Works

The DHT11 sensor continuously measures temperature and humidity from the surrounding environment. The ESP8266 reads this data and sends it to the Blynk Cloud using a Wi-Fi connection.

The collected data is displayed on a Blynk dashboard, allowing remote monitoring from a smartphone or web browser.

 Features

Real-time temperature monitoring

Real-time humidity monitoring

Cloud-based dashboard

Remote access through Blynk

Low-cost IoT solution

 What I Learned

Through this project, I gained practical experience in:

IoT Development

ESP8266 Programming

Sensor Integration

Cloud Dashboards

Wi-Fi Communication

Troubleshooting and Debugging

 Challenges Faced

One of the main challenges was establishing a stable Wi-Fi connection and ensuring accurate sensor readings. Debugging hardware connections and cloud communication helped improve my understanding of IoT systems.

 Future Improvements

I plan to enhance this project by adding:

Telegram Alerts

Data Logging

Weather History Graphs

GPS Integration

AI-Based Weather Prediction

 Conclusion

This project was a great learning experience and strengthened my understanding of how hardware, software, and cloud technologies work together. I look forward to building more advanced IoT and AI-based projects in the future.

My Journey Towards AI and Software Development: Building with Purpose at 17

Hello everyone,

My name is Kunal Tiwari. I am a 17-year-old developer and computer science student from India. I am gearing up to start my B.Tech journey in Computer Science & Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) from August 2026, alongside pursuing a BS in Data Science and Applications from IIT Madras starting in 2027.

For me, technology has never been just about writing code on a screen—it’s about transforming ideas into real-world automated solutions. Over the last few years, my curiosity has driven me to explore the deep intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

I strongly believe in a simple philosophy: "Science provides the 'How', but values provide the 'Why'." My ultimate goal is to build a "Digital Samrajya" (Digital Empire)—a suite of tech solutions that are innovative, highly efficient, and deeply rooted in ethical, cultural frameworks.

🛠️ What I Am Currently Building (The Product Roadmap)
I believe the best way to learn is by getting your hands dirty and building in public. Here is the current status of my flagship work and experiments:

🤖 Madhav AI (Base v1.0 Prototype) — STATUS: LIVE 🚀
An early-stage autonomous AI agent designed to explore the convergence of computer science and scriptural insights from ancient texts like the Gita and Ramayana.

The Tech Stack: Built as an autonomous agent using the Groq inference engine and Tavily API for real-time search capabilities.

Deployment: Hosted live on Hugging Face Spaces with a clean Gradio interface.

👉 Check out the prototype here: huggingface.co/spaces/kunal-madhav-ai/Madhav-AI

⚡ Madhav AI (v2.0 Advanced Edition) — STATUS: COMING SOON ⏱️
Behind the scenes, I am preparing for a massive upgrade. For v2.0, I am shifting from a basic prompt persona to a heavily engineered system:

Thos Dataset (Curated Data): Currently compiling an authentic, structured custom dataset focused on Indian philosophical frameworks and moral ethics.

Cloud Infrastructure: Moving the deployment to Google Cloud Console / Vertex AI for deep fine-tuning and advanced custom reasoning capabilities.

⚙️ IoT & Physical Automation — STATUS: EXPERIMENTING 🔋
I love bridging the gap between software and hardware. My physical prototypes include:

Hand-Gesture Controlled Vehicle: A system that controls a car using hand gestures, built using Arduino and NRF communication modules.

Smart Solar Railway Track System: An automated system utilizing solar energy on railway tracks for smart monitoring.

📚 Why I Am Blogging on Dev.to
I am starting this dev journal to document my growth step-by-step. Right now, I am sharpening my core fundamentals by learning deeply from foundational tracks (currently mastering Python string manipulation, typecasting, and logical structures).

Through this blog, I plan to share the actual bugs I encounter, how I solve them, and how I plan to scale my AI models.

My current tech focus areas:

Natural Language Processing (NLP) & Fine-Tuning

Data Science & Analytics (IITM Track)

Embedded Systems & Robotics (ESP32/Arduino)

Clean Architecture & Problem Solving

👋 Let's Connect!
The journey ahead requires massive patience, continuous learning, and a lot of debugging sessions. I’d love to connect, brainstorm, and collaborate with fellow students, developers, and mentors.

Portfolio: Kunal's AI Portfolio

Thank you for reading my very first post! Stay tuned, because in my next article, I will be breaking down the exact logic of how I connected real-time search APIs to my Hugging Face Space.

Best regards,
