The difference between devrel and social media marketing

Hi,

I've been doing social media for Web3 projects for a while, and I've found myself doing SM for an API that basically feels way more like devrel. I'm not a dev yet, and I'm absolutely quitting this gig because it's not worth my time.

That being said, I wanted to know how you guys, especially those of you who've been developing software or webapps or Web3 protocols or anything of the sort for a long time, decide whether or not to adapt a tool when approached by a devrel person.

What makes you think a tool is worth adapting? Do you look at the way the company is run, or do you just look at the usefulness of the tool?

Do you look at the long-term outlook of the tool receiving support from its company and mass adoption or are you just like, "hell, if it works?" Are you more into open-source?

What kind of perks do you expect from someone selling you a tool/protocol or asking you to beta test?

I'm asking because I'm 1. deciding whether or not to go into devrel, since I've basically been doing it, although I'm not a dev and I have to go back and forth between the devs of the projects I've been marketing for correct info and 2. I wanted to know how a diverse developer community like this one looks at new tools or protocols and the decision-making process that goes into adaptation.

thanks for reading
