Design Ideas: 16 Week Writing Streak Badge

Hey all! As some of you may know, we have two writing streak badges, one for 4 weeks and one for 8 weeks.

We need to create the next one for 16 weeks. Continuing with the binary "theme" gets tricky as we increase in number size because the badges can't be too wide. So we're going in a new direction, but didn't have any good ideas, so we thought the community might have good thoughts for a new writing streak badge. Any one have any ideas?

I started/continued to code in 2019 because...

Actually, I haven't coded once in 2019 but I did code in 2018. I even got a hacktoberfest t-shirt for contributing to my first open source project. I don't identify as a coder but I know HTML and was able to contribute and that was pretty cool.

I deserve credit for...

Being a legit open source contributor. You can check out my DEV profile and see the contributor badge as proof! I also designed the badge and deserve credit for that because that's what I actually do around here 😄

I'm writing this post in markdown. I think it's pretty cool I even know what markdown is and I love it.

I hope to see my school/work/developer/tech community...

I hope the whole software industry becomes as kind and awesome as the community here on DEV.

I couldn't find a note-taking app that ticked all the boxes I'm interested in: notes are written and rendered in GitHub Flavored Markdown, no WYSIWYG, no proprietary formats, I can run a search & replace across all notes, notes support attachments, the app isn't bloated, the app has a pretty interface, tags are indefinitely nestable and can import Evernote notes (because that's what I was using before).

So I built my own.

Comparison

Part of this comparison is personal opinion: you may disagree on the UI front, things I consider bloat may be considered features by somebody else etc. but hopefully this comparison did a good job at illustrating the main differences.

Notes are written in GitHub Flavored Markdown, and you can also write KaTeX expressions, Mermaid diagrams and so much more, check out our full Markdown cheatsheet.

This is a very slick looking product for taking notes in markdown instead of wysiwyg, plaintext, etc. Open source, promising project.

Of course, built with Electron. This will be a turn off for some.
