Figuring out my path through Python

When I started my journey into programming last year, I quickly fell in love with the ease and functionality of Python. I paid for a Python mastery course from Mosh Hamedani and took my time going through the tutorials. I hit a roadblock when the course was over and I didn’t know what to do next.

I wanted to have a base knowledge of HTML, CSS and JS, as I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go the front end or back end route to programming. So I began taking a @teamtreehouse
front-end dev course and I got quite far into it before my life got busy.

I had just got a new puppy, my wife and I sold our old camper and bought a new one, and we were preparing for our summer full of camping. I set the programming aside for a while.

Recently I was able to do some programming at my day job, see a previous post of mine, and decided I was going to start fresh with Python again.

At this time I am retaking the Python mastery course and things are making so much more sense now, and I am excited again at what I might be able to do with the Python language.

I hope to soon write about my very first Program I created, a Secret Santa name generator. Stay tuned!

Programming at my day job

When you read the title of this post, you may think “what’s your day job? Isn’t that what you are supposed to do?”

The answer is I’m a trading assistant for a financial planning and investment office. And no, my job is not programming related at all. At least it wasn’t meant to be...

I’ve been at my job for almost 4 years now and have done much more than what I was originally hired to do. But since I began to learn how to program about 6 months ago, I have been able to save my employer probably a few hundred dollars at least by editing code on our server based Client Relationship Manager (CRM) myself. I literally just worked on the program today and saved probably at least $90 in fees that it would have cost to contact the company we usually work with to make changes.

I’m posting about this because it gives me hope that although I am not in a tech related job at the moment, it definitely is where I see myself in a couple years.

Talk to you all soon!

Hi everyone! I have been programming now for about 6 months and I recently took some time away to prepare for camping season :). I'm ready to get back to it and have a friend inspiring me to start writing about my journey into tech. I figured, why not get my first post out there so I have a starting point to look back on. So here it is... My first post... My first intro. I now have my starting point.

Talk to you all soon!
