Hello,
I am thrilled to be writing my final blog post as an Outreachy intern for Eclipse Adoptium's Moncon project 🎉.Over the past three months, I have had the opportunity to work on a fascinating project aimed at automating the Nagios server-side configuration using scripts and Ansible.

Throughout my internship, I worked on creating Ansible playbooks and roles to handle the creation and manipulation of Nagios server-side configuration files. This involved understanding the existing Nagios server-side configuration structure and how it can be automated using Ansible.

Working on this project has been both challenging and rewarding. I learned a lot about Ansible, its features, and how it can be used to automate server-side configuration. I also gained experience in working with other developers and contributing to a large open-source project.

What I enjoyed most about working on Moncon was the sense of community and collaboration that permeated every aspect of the project. Whether it was through code reviews, Slack discussions, or weekly meetings, I always felt that I was part of a team that valued my contributions and was invested in my growth as a developer. I learned so much from my interactions with my mentors and colleagues, and I am grateful for their guidance and support throughout my internship.

Overall, my experience with Outreachy and the Moncon project has been incredibly positive, and I would highly recommend the program to anyone looking to gain experience in open source software development. The skills and knowledge I gained will undoubtedly serve me well in my future endeavors, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the Moncon project and the open source community as a whole.

Thank you to everyone who made this internship possible, and I hope to see you all in the open source world! 🎉🎉

Hello guys, as I end month two of my internship, I decided to reveal a bit more about my work with Eclipse Adoptium as an Outreachy intern.

I've been asked by peers multiple times what company I work with. Most people give me a confused look when I tell them about the Moncon project, so I go with infrastructure automation.

What is the Moncon project?

This project involves improvements to how the machines at the open source project are monitored. It involves assessment and configuration of the Nagios server at the project.

Nagios is a configurable server monitoring tool, monitoring elements such as connectivity, memory & CPU usage, disk space usage, system daemons etc. It consists of a monitoring server with agents on each remote host to be monitored.

The aim of this project is to automate the Nagios server side configuration, by utilizing a script/scripts and ansible(an open-source automation tool used for configuration management, application deployment, and task automation) to handle the creation, and manipulation of the server side configuration files.

My Experience with Eclipse Adoptium community

A fantastic community with very supportive and mentoring mentors who are passionate about producing high-quality open-source software.
With the help of my mentors, I have so far been able to achieve significant milestones in my intern project.
I would say that I have learnt a lot thus far, and I still have a lot to learn.
*I wouldn't trade the experience for anything else; it's so far been a great learning experience

*

If you'd like to contribute to a similar project you may consider joining in the Adoptium community , website
And following the community on linkedln for latest updates

Till then, Happy coding! 😊 and stay tuned for the next blog.

Outreachy Blog #2: Everybody struggles

Where there is no challenge, there is absolutely no progress by Eric Thomas

works as my favorite quote!!!

It has been so far three weeks since I started my internship journey and the tasks I have been working on are going through Adoptium infrastructure codebase, documentation, specification learning and working on the issues I have on my issue board.

And with the help of my mentors Scot and Haroon, we have identified a chronological way for me to implement my tasks

   **Where the struggle comes in**

Working on my first task has seen me going back to revise the dictionary data structures and some concepts of the python programming language

Ideally I say that it hasn't been a struggle, but rather a rewarding challenge to replenish and expand my skill sets.

In the first three weeks, I have been able to set the stage for the upcoming tasks. Hoping that I should be able to utilize the base built in these first weeks to be more efficient and relaxed in the upcoming weeks.

      **Best Tip**

I'd say that breaking a task down into simpler manageable chunks, having a routine, being disciplined, and, most importantly, keeping in touch with my mentors has made the internship easier. Their advice on how to handle tasks has made it much easier for me to complete them, for which I am grateful.

Outreachy Blog #1: Introducing myself

hello everyone 👋

I am Lumu , a software engineer coming close to 3 years in the open source world. Contributing to several causes that make the world a better place.
I have been recently selected as an Outreachy intern for the Dec-Mar'23 cohort 🎉. I'll be working with Eclipse adoptium on the project "Open Infrastructure Monitoring Configuration: Project MonCon" with my mentors Scott Fryer and Haroon Khel and Shelley Lambert.

Can't explain how humbled and excited I am to work with such a great community in this cohort and I'm looking forward to learning from and engaging with the community!

            **Some of My Core Values**

Proficiency

Anything worth doing is worth doing well (Philip Stanhope)

I always try my best to uphold this standard in every area of my life, especially in my career as a software developer where incompetence can be costly either in the present or future. I try never to submit work that I've judged to be subpar.

Contribution

Measure your life not by its duration but by its contribution (Peter Marshall)

This is important to me for several reasons. there is a gratifying feeling that comes with making contributions to either a project, community or cause. it is my way of giving back. Given that I've benefited from the contributions of others, whether its free online learning resources, free software or a mentor showing me a thing or two, it's only right that I make contributions that benefit others as well.

Pleasure

I finally figured out that the only reason to be alive is to enjoy it (Rita Mae Brown)

I always endeavor to experience all the happiness that this life has to offer. Having fun or at the very least derive mental satisfaction in most things I choose to do. Life is too short to spend it on things that are non-stimulating.

Lastly,

**What motivated me to apply to Outreachy?**

I've always wanted to make more impact as a software developer, so I applied in a heartbeat when I first learned about the Outreachy Internship Program,
Outreachy provides paid internships in open source to underrepresented groups in the tech industry . Although I wasn't successful in my first attempt, I got some valuable experience which led to me being successful in a subsequent attempt.

If you've applied to an Outreachy round and didn't go through, don't give up, persistence with refined hard work does the magic!💡
