The FDA's eighty-year trajectory of new drug approvals depicts around one-third of the drugs clinically used as their pharmaceutical salts. Among various cationic and anionic counterions used in FDA-approved pharmaceutical salts, the carboxylic acids have significantly contributed. A total of 94 pharmaceutical salts discovered during 1943-2020 comprises carboxylic acids as counterions with a major contribution of acetate, maleate, tartrate, fumarate, and succinate. Hydrocodone tartrate is the first FDA-approved carboxylate salt approved in 1943. Overall, the analysis shows that fifteen carboxylic acid counterions are present in FDA-approved pharmaceutical salts with a major share of acetate (18 drugs). Transverse colon cancer (TCC) is a rare condition that accounts for 10% of all colon cancers. TCC was accepted more likely right-sided colon cancers. We aimed to investigate whether TCC differs from other colon tumors by using clinical, pathological, and molecular prognostic factors known to be important in colon cancer and if it differs in its own anatomical structure.

We evaluated local and locally advanced TCC patients between 2007 and 2020years for demographics data, symptoms, treatment status, and histopathological and molecular features.

Overall, 107 TCC patients were included in this study. According to the molecular data analysis of 44, 35, and 23 patients for MSI, RAS, and BRAF status, respectively, 7 (15.9%) were MSI-H, 13 (37.1%) were RAS mutant, and 11 (47.8%) had BRAF V600E mutation. The median follow-up time was 31.5months. Median disease-free survival (DFS) was 5.19months, and median OS was 88.3months for the whole study population. The tumor stage was the most significant prognostic factor for DFS and OS. Although BRAF mutation was not a significant marker for DFS, it was an independent prognostic marker for OS (HR 3.90 95% CI 1.42-10.7). There were no statistically significant differences between proximal two-thirds and distal one-third tumor location.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition, which is involved in the cancer cell acquisition of apoptosis resistance, is closely linked with histological findings of MPC, PDCs, and tumor buds (TBs), with MPC and TBs considered as apoptosis-resistant features. However, we encountered a case of colonic MPC with frequent apoptosis. We examined the case using immunohistochemistry. In many of the tumor glands (TGs) of the MPC, empty spaces and tumor cell detachment toward the gland interior were observed. Moreover, TG ruptures were scattered, with PDCs adjacent to them. Apoptosis occurred mainly at the TG and PDC peripheries in the middle and deep tumor layers, and transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) positivity was evident in those tumor cells. Cells positive for apoptosis-related M30 were distributed mainly in the deep layer with a significant PDC and TB presence. However, apoptosis and M30 positivity were low in the TBs. Non-tumorous bud components, especially those in the deep layer, had poor ability to promptly acquire apoptosis resistance. No nuclear β-catenin positivity was found in any of the tumor cells. However, the extent to which nonhuman great apes comprehend the underlying structural and physiological constraints affecting each moving body part, i.e., biomechanics, is still unclear. To address this, we examined the understanding of biomechanics in bonobos (Pan paniscus) and chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), following a previous study on humans (Homo sapiens). Apes underwent eye tracking while viewing three-dimensional computer-generated (CG) animations of biomechanically possible or impossible elbow movements performed by a human, robot, or nonhuman ape. Overall, apes did not differentiate their gaze between possible and impossible movements of elbows. However, some apes looked at elbows for longer when viewing impossible vs. possible robot movements, which indicates that they may have had knowledge of biomechanics and that this knowledge could be extended to a novel agent. These mixed results make it difficult to draw a firm conclusion regarding the extent to which apes understand biomechanics. We discuss some methodological features that may be responsible for the results, as well as implications for future nonhuman animal studies involving the presentation of CG animations or measurement of gaze behaviors.click here

Given the impact of politico-economic sanctions on the pharmaceutical supply chain, this study aims to identify practical strategies to improve the resilience of the Iranian supply chain in pharmaceutical procurement under politico-economic sanctions.

This is a qualitative content analysis study conducted in 2018. Semi-structured interviews were conducted using snowball sampling, and saturation was achieved after 18 interviews. Guba and Lincoln's criteria, namely credibility, confirmability, transferability, and dependability, were considered to ensure the validity and transparency of the study. A five-step framework analysis was applied to analyze the data using MAX QDA10.

The results led to the identification of nine main themes and 26 subthemes as strategies to improve the resilience of the pharmaceutical chain. According to the thematic map, some of these strategies have an extra-sectoral character 'insurance organizations', 'strengthening relations with other countries', 'mechanization of the distrtechnologies, more attention to business complexity, economic development, intense competition, rapid changes in customer needs, and appropriate relationship between manufacturers, distributors, prescribers, and insurance organizations as purchasers should be considered by policymakers to improve supply chain resilience.

Hookworm is a major contributor to worldwide disease burden with over 230 million people infected. It has been identified as one of the Neglected Tropical Diseases that can be controlled and even eliminated through mass drug administration and other effective interventions. Mathematical models have shown that hookworm can only be eliminated via a vaccine. Controlled Hookworm Human Infection (CHHI) models can facilitate rapid development of vaccines and drugs.

As a first step towards the establishment of CHHI in Africa, we held a stakeholders meeting in Lamberene, Gabon from 10 to 11 November 2019.

Discussions revolved around the roles of the different regulatory institutions concerned; the need to strengthen existing regulatory capacity and the role of legislation; creating Gabon-specific ethical guidelines to govern Controlled Human Infection (CHI) studies; development of a study protocol; consideration of cultural and social peculiarities; the need for regular joint review meetings between interested parties throughout the process of protocol implementation; and participant compensation. see more Moreover, operational considerations concerning the introduction of CHHI in Gabon include the use of the local strain of hookworm for the challenge infections, capacity building for the local production of challenge material, and the establishment of adequate quality assurance procedures.

The workshop addressed several of the anticipated hurdles to the successful implementation of CHHI in Gabon. It is our aim that this report will stimulate interest in the implementation of this model in the sub-Saharan African setting.

Nursing Professionalism was measured by Hall's Professionalism Scale, consisting of 50 items. The scale was developed to measure the attitudes and ideologies held by professionals in various professional occupations by measuring five attitudinal constructs of professionalism, namely 'sense of calling to the field', 'autonomy', 'using a professional organisation as a major referent', 'belief in self-regulation', and 'belief in public service'. This study focussed on determining the practically significant differences that exist between the means of the five constructs of Hall's Professionalism Scale and certain demographic variables among nurses in South Africa. The 11-item demographic profile included the following variables gender (1), age (2), age when becoming a professional nurse (3), undergraduate qualifications (4), marital status (5), number of children (6), employment sector (7), years' of nursing experience (8), international experience (9), employment status (10) and satisfaction with nursing as a career (11).

Obesity is one of the most serious public health problems due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. The taste perception is a powerful factor affecting food acceptance and may be one of the causes of tendency to obesity. Genetic variations in TAS1R2 and TRPM5 genes that affect taste preferences may cause inter-individual differences in food selection and thus increase the risk of obesity. We hypothesised that genetic variations in TAS1R2 and TRPM5 genes may contribute to obesity phenotypes by influencing food intake and body mass index (BMI). The aim of this study is to analyse the association of TAS1R2 rs35874116 and TRPM5 rs886277 polymorphisms with BMI and obesity.

A total of 186 people were enrolled in this study, 54 of whom were normal weight (BMI = 18.50-24.99 kg/m
), 15 overweight (BMI = 25.0-29.9 kg/m
) and 117 obese people (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m

Current drugs for epilepsy affect seizures, but no antiepileptogenic or disease-modifying drugs are available that prevent or slow down epileptogenesis, which is characterized by neuronal cell loss, inflammation and aberrant network formation. Ghrelin and ghrelin receptor (ghrelin-R) agonists were previously found to exert anticonvulsant, neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects in seizure models and immediately after status epilepticus (SE). Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess whether the ghrelin-R agonist macimorelin is antiepileptogenic in the pharmacoresistant intrahippocampal kainic acid (IHKA) mouse model.

SE was induced in C57BL/6mice by unilateral IHKA injection. Starting 24h after SE, mice were treated intraperitoneally with macimorelin (5mg/kg) or saline twice daily for 2weeks, followed by a 2-week wash-out. Mice were continuously electroencephalogram-monitored, and at the end of the experiment neuroprotection and gliosis were assessed.

The increased proportion and mature of CD11c+ DCs, CD8+ CD11c+ DCs and CD103+ CD11c+ DCs were observed in the splenocytes from CS-pL-Myc/pCAIX co-immunized mice. Furthermore, the enhanced antigen-specific CD8+ T lymphocyte proliferation, cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses, and multi-functional CD8+ T cell induction were detected in CS-pL-Myc/pCAIX co-immunization group compared with CS-pCAIX immunization group. Of note, the depletion of CD8 T cells resulted in the reduction of CD8+ T cells or CD8+ CD11c+ DCs and the loss of anti-tumor efficacy induced by CS-pL-Myc/pCAIX vaccine, suggesting the therapeutic efficacy of the vaccine was required for CD8+ DCs and CD103+ DCs mediated CD8+ T cells responses. Likewise, CS-pL-Myc/pCAIX co-immunization also significantly inhibited the lung metastasis of renal carcinoma models accompanied with the increased induction of multi-functional CD8+ T cell responses. Determining the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and sexual dysfunction (SD) and their correlation in psychiatric patients treated with psychotropics in a tertiary care hospital in Salem region, Tamil Nadu, India.

A cross-sectional study was conducted in the psychiatric department of Vinayaka Mission's Medical College and Hospitals, Salem on patients (n=108) treated with psychotropics. The sociodemographic information, anthropometric measurements, and laboratory tests for metabolic functions were collected and assessed to determine the presence of metabolic syndrome (as per NCEP ATP III criteria). All the results were statistically analysed and P-value < .05 was considered to be statistically significant.

The overall prevalence of MetS in the study population was 25.93%.see more
