While aberrant modifications of p75NTR in neurological diseases have been extensively documented, only a few studies report p75NTR dysfunction in PD, and no data are available in LID. Here, we explored the functional role of p75NTR in LID. Trametinib In LID rats, we identified that p75NTR was significantly increased in the lesioned striatum. In 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-hemilesioned rats, specific knockdown of striatal p75NTR levels achieved by viral vector injection into the striatum prevented the development of LID and increased striatal structural plasticity. By contrast, we found that in 6-OHDA-hemilesioned rats, striatal p75NTR overexpression exacerbated LID and facilitated striatal dendritic spine losses. Several reports in the literature establish the percentage of adhesion to hydrocarbons (PoAtH) value produced by the MATH test for a broad variety of bacteria. Discrepancies in PoAtH values reported for the same strain of a specific microorganism suggest that some method-induced variation may exist, as different research teams employ different versions of the assay. The objective of the present study was to compare the performance of different versions of the MATH test as reported in the literature, to quantify the magnitude of the method-induced variation on PoAtH values. The study demonstrated that PoAtH values are influenced twice as much by variations in the employed assay than by actual differences in cell surface composition or architecture. The two L. reuteri strains studied responded differently to changes in assay conditions showing 40 and 70% method-dependent variation for strain ATCC 53609 and 55730, respectively. These results highlight the need to properly standardize the MATH test to enable comparison of PoAtH values produced by independent research teams.Chicken Infectious Anaemia (CIA) Virus (CAV) inhibits the function of multiple immune compartments. Mortality due to clinical infection is controlled in broilers by passive immunization derived from vaccinated breeders. Therefore, serological tests are often used in chicks to determine maternally-derived antibodies (MDA). We used a vaccine overdose-induced model of CIA. The model replicated the most common features of the disease. This model was used to determine the role of MDA in the protection of chicks. Hatchlings were tested for anti-CAV titers by ELISA and were sorted into groups based on antibody levels. SPF chicks were used as a no-antibody control. Lower specific antibody levels seemed to facilitate viral entry into the thymus, but viral levels, CD4+ and CD8+ counts, thymus architecture, and haematocrit were preserved by MDA, regardless of its levels. Levels of MDA are not correlated with protection from CIA, but are important for the progression CAV infection.The dorsolateral bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNSTDL) has high expression of oxytocin (OT) receptors (OTR), which were shown to facilitate cued fear. However, the role of OTR in the modulation of BNSTDL activity remains elusive. BNSTDL contains GABA-ergic neurons classified based on intrinsic membrane properties into three types. Using in vitro patch-clamp recordings in male rats, we demonstrate that OT selectively excites and increases spontaneous firing rate of Type I BNSTDL neurons. As a consequence, OT increases the frequency, but not amplitude, of spontaneous inhibitory post-synaptic currents (sIPSCs) selectively in Type II neurons, an effect abolished by OTR antagonist or tetrodotoxin, and reduces spontaneous firing rate in these neurons. These results suggest an indirect effect of OT in Type II neurons, which is mediated via OT-induced increase in firing of Type I interneurons. As Type II BNSTDL neurons were shown projecting to the central amygdala (CeA), we also recorded from retrogradely labeled BNST→CeA neurons and we show that OT increases the frequency of sIPSC in these Type II BNST→CeA output neurons. In contrast, in Type III neurons, OT reduces the amplitude, but not frequency, of both sIPSCs and evoked IPSCs via a postsynaptic mechanism without changing their intrinsic excitability. We present a model of fine-tuned modulation of BNSTDL activity by OT, which selectively excites BNSTDL interneurons and inhibits Type II BNST→CeA output neurons. It became famous thanks to Benjamin Libet (Brain 1983;106623-642), who used the time difference between the RP and self-reported time of conscious intention to move to argue that we lack free will. The RP's informativeness about self-generated action and derivatively about free will has prompted continued research on this neural phenomenon. Here, we argue that recent advances in our understanding of the RP, including computational modeling of the phenomenon, call for a reassessment of its relevance for understanding volition and the philosophical problem of free will. &lt;br&gt;
 Parkinson's Disease (PD) is among one of the common comorbidities in older patients. People with PD may be more vulnerable to severe pneumonia, due to the impairment of pulmonary function. Currently, the association between PD and COVID-19 is not yet established. This study aims to analyze the relationship between PD and in-hospital outcomes of COVID-19. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We systematically searched the PubMed and Europe PMC database using specific keywords related to our aims until December 25th, 2020. All articles published on COVID-19 and Parkinson's Disease were retrieved. The quality of the study was assessed using the Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) tool for observational studies and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tools for cross-sectional studies. Statistical analysis was done using Review Manager 5.4 software. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A total of 12 studies with 103,874 COVID-19 patients were included in this meta-analysis. This meta-analysis showed that Parkinson's Disease was associated with poor in-hospital outcomes [[OR 2.64 (95% CI 1.75-3.99), p&amp;lt;0.00001, I &lt;br&gt;
 =81%] and its subgroup which comprised of severe COVID-19 [OR 2.61 (95% CI 1.98-3.43), p&amp;lt;0.00001, I &lt;br&gt;
 =0%] and mortality from COVID-19 [RR 2.63 (95% CI 1.50-4.60), p=0.0007, I &lt;br&gt;

Pregabalin is currently recommended by NICE for the treatment of anxiety. Gabapentinoids have some overlap with the action of benzodiazepines, and have similar issues with tolerance, dependence, addiction and withdrawal. They were scheduled as class C controlled drugs in 2019 because of these risks. There were 244 deaths due to poisoning recorded by the ONS in 2019 involving pregabalin. Poisonings due to pregabalin usually involve concomitant use of opioids or other drugs. The rate of deaths involving pregabalin has been rising steeply for the last 10 years, and now exceeds those attributed to diazepam, fentanyl, the tricyclics as a group or SSRIs as a group. In the last decade, it has been suggested that low dose of ketamine is a fast-acting antidepressant. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of intraoperative ketamine infusion on postoperative mood score in patients undergoing Dilation and Curettage (D&amp;amp;C) under spinal anesthesia. We hypothesized that a single low-dose administration of ketamine infusion during D&amp;amp;C surgery can improve mood scores in the immediate postoperative period. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A prospective, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled trial. The study included a total of 60 patients, ≥18 years, physical status ASA II, with up to 12-week gestation undergoing elective D&amp;amp;C surgery. Patients were divided randomly into a ketamine group (group K) and a control group (group C). In group K, 0.4 mg/kg ketamine was given as a continuous infusion over 20 min intraoperatively. &lt;br&gt;
 . Profile of Mood States (POMS) was recorded preoperatively and 2 hours postoperatively. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;There were no differences in preoperative POMS between the two groups. Mean postoperative POMS of group K was lower than that of group C indicating mood improvement. Ketamine group patients showed higher sedation score and increased, although self-limiting, psychedelic phenomena than the control group. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Observed data here support an acute effect of ketamine on mood but any further claim will be speculative. Further future studies exploring postoperative mood scores after 24 hours post-infusion are needed. This trial is registered with PACTR201907779292947. &lt;br&gt;

 Endoscopic resection is considered the treatment of choice for type I gastric neuroendocrine neoplasia (gNEN) given its indolent behaviour; however, the favoured endoscopic technique to remove these tumours is not well established. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This systematic review is aimed at investigating the best endoscopic management for type I gNEN. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;PubMed Central/Medline and Scopus were systematically searched for records up to August 31, 2020. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;After screening the 675 retrieved records, 6 studies were selected for the final analysis. The main endoscopic resection techniques described were endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Overall, 112 gNENs were removed by EMR and 77 by ESD. Both techniques showed similar results for complete and &lt;br&gt;
 resection (97.4% and 98.7%; 92.3% and 96.3% with ESD and EMR, respectively). ESD was associated with a higher rate of complications than EMR (11.7% vs. 5.4%), but this difference was not statistically significant ( &lt;br&gt;
 = 0.17). The rates of recurrence during follow-up were 18.2% and 11.5% for EMR and ESD, respectively. &lt;/p&gt;

      <description>&lt;p&gt;[This corrects the article DOI 10.1016/j.heliyon.2021.e05979.].Rose oxide (RO) is a monoterpene found in rose oil fragrances. This monoterpene has been reported to possess anti-inflammatory activity, however, little is known regarding its pharmacological activity. The present study was carried out to evaluate its antidepressant action and possible mechanisms of action. Analysis of ADMET pharmacokinetic properties (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity) of rose oxide was performed by computational prediction analysis. Behavioral tests were performed to assess the interaction between rose oxide and the central nervous system and antidepressant effect that includes forced swim test (FST), tail suspension test (TST), open field test (OFT) and rota-rod test. The results of pharmacokinetic and toxicological properties indicate that rose oxide could be used orally, since it has good intestinal absorption as well as pharmacological and toxicological properties that can be similar to pharmacological compounds (regular hepatic metabolism and low toxicity). Treatment with 50 mg/kg of rose oxide was able to decrease the immobility time of animals not affected by FST and TST and was not able to alter the motor activity of the OFT and rota-rod test, suggesting modulation and antidepressant activity. Docking data suggest that rose oxide can bind to receptors in the serotonergic pathway. The results described here suggest that rose oxide has antidepressant activity, modulating the serotonergic pathway.Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) from plant origin were postulated to regulate complex hormonal control through the hypothalamus- pituitary-testicular axis and somatic cells due to their unique small size and effective drug delivery to target tissues. This study therefore investigates the biogenic synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) from Moringa oleifera leaves on key endocrine hormones (LH, FSH and testosterone), MDA level, antioxidant enzymes (SOD and CAT), acetylcholineesterase (AChE) activity and reactive nitrogen species (NO•) level in rotenone induced male rat. The animals were divided into six groups (n = 8). Group I was orally given olive oil as vehicle; Group II received 60 mg/kg of rotenone (RTNE) only; Group III (RTNE + ZnONPs) received 60 mg/kg RTNE + 10 mg/kg ZnONPs; Group IV (RTNE + ZnCAP) received 60 mg/kg RTNE + 50 mg/kg zinc capsule; Group V (ZnONPs only) received 10 mg/kg ZnONPs only. Group VI received 50 mg/kg ZnCAP only. The experiment lasted 10 days. TEM and XRD images revealed ZnO NPs. Moreover, the presence of organic molecules in bio-reduction reactions from the FTIR spectrum showed the stabilization of the nanoparticles. Also, animals induced with rotenone exhibited impairment in the leydig cells by depleting LH, FSH, and testosterone levels with reduced AChE activity and significant (p less then 0.05) alteration in cerebral enzymatic antioxidants. There was also brain increase in NO• production marker of pro-inflammation. Nanotherapeutically, ZnONPs regulated hypothalamus-pituitary-testicular axis via modulation of cerebral NO•, FSH, LH, testosterone and AChE activity with induction of anti-oxidative enzymes. &lt;br&gt;
 Approximately 70% of cervical carcinoma cases show the presence of high-risk Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), especially HPV-16 and HPV-18, and can be used to stratify high risk patients from low risk and healthy. Currently, molecular biology techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) are used to identify the presence of virus in patient samples. While the methodology is highly sensitive, it is labor intensive and time-consuming. Alternative techniques, such as vibrational spectroscopy, has been suggested as a possible rapid alternative. Therefore, in this study, we evaluate the efficiency of cervical fluid Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in patient risk stratification informed by PCR. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Cervical fluid samples (n=91) were obtained from patients who have undergone routine Papanicolaou (Pap) test. Viral genome was identified and classified as high/low-risk by PCR-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). FTIR spectra were acquired from samples identified by PCR-RFLP as No-HPV (n=identified as healthy, low, and high-risk samples by PCR-RFLP. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Five focus group interviews with women attending post-natal care at five different well-baby clinics in South-Eastern Norway in 2019. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Sixteen first-time mothers who had given birth to a baby 3-17 weeks prior to the focus group interview. All had experience of staying at home in early labour. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Three themes emerged from the analysis. The first and most substantial theme involved information. The women considered it necessary to have easy access to a suitable amount of trustworthy information at the appropriate time. The second theme described that the women were surprised at how early labour manifested, despite having prepared for it. The third theme was about receiving acknowledgement and support, revealing that information did not meet all woman's needs. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The women found it challenging to prepare for early labour, and no matter hovided to help women feel safe when staying at home in early labour.Sewage sludge has become a sink of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) due to the ineffectiveness of PFAS removal during conventional activated sludge treatment process. In this study, we evaluated the performance of an enhanced method for PFAS extraction from sewage sludge. Significant matrix effect was observed for samples derived from untreated and hydrothermally treated sludge. selleck chemical Extra steps for removing potential interferences were thus needed to reduce these matrix effects and improve the accuracy of PFAS quantification. Hydrothermal treatment at 165 °C for 0.5/2 h and 250 °C for 0.5 h increased the concentration of extractable PFAAs in treated sludge. Increasing the temperature to 300 °C resulted in complete degradation of PFCAs after hydrothermal processing, but still increased the concentrations of PFSAs and PFAA precursors. The concentration increase could be due to the conversion of PFAA precursors to PFAAs and the release of PFAAs from sewage sludge during thermal treatment. Ca(OH)2 addition to hydrothermal treatment completely removed PFAA precursors but significantly increased the extractable PFAAs, except PFHpA and PFHxS, at 165 °C and all PFSAs at 300 °C. This study revealed the difficulties in extracting and quantifying PFAS in sludge and demonstrated the need for further research on finding suitable solutions for complete removal or destruction of PFAS in highly heterogeneous sewage sludge.Particulate matter with an aerodynamic equivalent dimeter less than 2.5 μm (PM2.5) and ozone (O3) are major air pollutants, with coupled and complex relationships. The control of both PM2.5 and O3 pollution requires the identification of their common influencing factors, which has rarely been attempted. In this study, land use regression (LUR) models based on the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator were developed to estimate PM2.5 and O3 concentrations in China's Pearl River Delta region during 2019. The common factors in the tradeoffs between the two air pollutants and their synergistic effects were analyzed. The model inputs included spatial coordinates, remote sensing observations, meteorological conditions, population density, road density, land cover, and landscape metrics. The LUR models performed well, capturing 54-89% and 42-83% of the variations in annual and seasonal PM2.5 and O3 concentrations, respectively, as shown by the 10-fold cross validation. The overlap of variables between the PM2.5 and O3 models indicated that longitude, aerosol optical depth, O3 column number density, tropospheric NO2 column number density, relative humidity, sunshine duration, population density, the percentage cover of forest, grass, impervious surfaces, and bare land, and perimeter-area fractal dimension had opposing effects on PM2.5 and O3. The tropospheric formaldehyde column number density, wind speed, road density, and area-weighted mean fractal dimension index had complementary effects on PM2.5 and O3 concentrations. This study has improved our understanding of the tradeoff and synergistic factors involved in PM2.5 and O3 pollution, and the results can be used to develop joint control policies for both pollutants.Soils containing a large proportion of industrial waste can pose a health risk due to high environmentally available concentrations of toxic metal(loid)s. Nano zero-valent iron (nZVI) and amorphous manganese oxide (AMO) were applied as immobilising amendments (1 wt%) to soils with different industrial origin of As and Sb, and leaching of As, Sb, Pb, and Zn was investigated using a single extraction with deionised water. The different industrial impact was reflected in the mineralogy, chemical composition and pH of these soils. Water-soluble As ratios positively correlated with pH in all experimental treatments. A significant decrease of water-soluble As ratios was observed in all nZVI-amended soils (~65-93% of the control) except for one sample with the lowest solution pH. Nano zero-valent iron was also successful in Sb immobilisation (~76-90% of the control). Highly variable results were obtained for AMO, which only led to a decrease of water-soluble As in soils with solution pH of ≥7 (~70-80% of the control), probably due to lower stability of AMO in acidic conditions. In each case, nZVI was more efficient at decreasing water-soluble As ratios than AMO. Dissolved Pb concentrations remained unchanged after the application of nZVI and AMO, and the decrease of Zn leaching using AMO was controlled mainly by soil pH increase induced by its application. According to the calculated saturation indices, tripuhyite (FeSbO4) was predicted to be the key mineral controlling Sb solubility in mine soils. Secondary Fe (hydr)oxides either originally present or newly formed due to nZVI oxidation were instrumentally identified at different stages of their transformation and metal(loid) retention. Materials and Methods Ten dry sheep hemi-mandibles, each with 4 sites (incisor, canine, premolar, and molar), were evaluated when either centrally or peripherally positioned within the field of view (FOV) with the image slices subjected to either oblique or orthogonal inclinations. Four types of images were created of each region central/cross-sectional, central/coronal, peripheral/cross-sectional, and peripheral/coronal. The horizontal and vertical dimensions were measured for each region of each image type. Direct measurements of each region were obtained using a digital caliper in both horizontal and vertical dimensions. CBCT and direct measurements were compared using the Bland-Altman plot method. find more P values less then 0.05 were considered to indicate statistical significance. Results The buccolingual dimension of the incisor and premolar areas and the height of the incisor, canine, and molar areas showed statistically significant differences on the peripheral/coronal images compared to the direct measurements (P less then 0.05). Molar area height in the central/coronal slices also differed significantly from the direct measurements (P less then 0.05). Cross-sectional images of either the central or peripheral position had no marked difference from the gold-standard values, indicating sufficient accuracy. Conclusion Peripheral object positioning within the FOV in combination with applying an orthogonal inclination to the slices resulted in significant inaccuracies in the horizontal and vertical measurements. The most undesirable effect was observed in the molar area and the vertical dimension. Materials and Methods Thirty patients with radiographic records from before and after 3-dimensional (3D) conformational radiotherapy were selected. A single examiner carried out digital analyses of pixel intensity values and fractal dimensions, with the areas of interest unilaterally located in the right angle medullary region of the mandible below the mandibular canal and posterior to the molar region. Results Statistically significant decreases were observed in the mean pixel intensity (P=0.0368) and fractal dimension (P=0.0495) values after radiotherapy. Conclusion The results suggest that 3D conformational radiotherapy for head and neck cancer negatively affected the trabecular microarchitecture and mandibular bone mass. Copyright © 2020 by Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.Purpose This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of a metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithm activated at different times during cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) acquisition on the magnitude of artifacts generated by a zirconium implant. Materials and Methods Volumes were obtained with and without a zirconium implant in a human mandible, using the OP300 Maxio unit. Three modes were tested without MAR, with MAR activated after acquisition, and with MAR activated before acquisition. Artifacts were assessed in terms of the standard deviation (SD) of gray values and the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) in 6 regions of interest with different distances (10 to 35 mm, from the nearest to the farthest) and angulations (70° to 135°) from the implant region. Results In the acquisitions without MAR, the regions closer to the implant (10 and 15 mm) had a higher SD and lower CNR than the farther regions. When MAR was activated (before or after), SD values did not differ among the regions (P&amp;gt;0.05). The region closest to the implant presented a significantly lower CNR in the acquisitions without MAR than when MAR was activated after the acquisition; however, activating MAR before the acquisition did not yield significant differences from either of the other conditions. Conclusion Both modes of MAR activation were effective in decreasing the magnitude of CBCT artifacts, especially when the effects of the artifacts were more noticeable. Copyright © 2020 by Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.Purpose This study was conducted to objectively and subjectively compare the accuracy and reliability of 2-dimensional (2D) photography and 3-dimensional (3D) soft tissue imaging. Materials and Methods Facial images of 50 volunteers (25 males, 25 females) were captured with a Nikon D800 2D camera (Nikon Corporation, Tokyo, Japan), 3D stereophotogrammetry (SPG), and laser scanning (LS). All subjects were imaged in a relaxed, closed-mouth position with a normal smile. The 2D images were then exported to Mirror® Software (Canfield Scientific, Inc, NJ, USA) and the 3D images into Proplan CMF® software (version 2.1, Materialise HQ, Leuven, Belgium) for further evaluation. For an objective evaluation, 2 observers identified soft tissue landmarks and performed linear measurements on subjects' faces (direct measurements) and both linear and angular measurements on all images (indirect measurements). For a qualitative analysis, 10 dental observers and an expert in facial imaging (subjective gold standard) completed a questionnaire regarding facial characteristics. The reliability of the quantitative data was evaluated using intraclass correlation coefficients, whereas the Fleiss kappa was calculated for qualitative data. Results Linear and angular measurements carried out on 2D and 3D images showed excellent inter-observer and intra-observer reliability. The 2D photographs displayed the highest combined total error for linear measurements. SPG performed better than LS, with borderline significance (P=0.052). The qualitative assessment showed no significant differences among the 2D and 3D imaging modalities. Conclusion SPG was found to a reliable and accurate tool for the morphological evaluation of soft tissue in comparison to 2D imaging and laser scanning.
