Trust Me, You Don’t Know What I’m Talking About: 2025 ChatGPT/AI The Duality Of Progress Series

When experts default to protocol instead of pattern recognition, we stall the very progress we claim to be building.

THE THREAD THAT PROVED THE THESIS

I posted an observation about image degradation within ChatGPT’s image generation workflows — not a question, not a request for help, but a field-level insight from real usage.

What followed was textbook:

A string of commenters telling me to “just read the system card” or “ask o3 to explain it.”
One person insisted prompt quality and project instructions were the solution, even though that wasn’t the problem I was addressing.
I clarified. Multiple times.
Eventually, I asked: “How does your suggestion actually fix what I described?”

His response?

“Screenshot what I said and ask GPT to explain it to you.”

In that moment, it became crystal clear:

People aren’t misunderstanding what I’m saying. They literally don’t know what I’m talking about.

WHAT PROMPTING CAN’T FIX

There’s a widespread myth in the AI space:

If you write the perfect prompt, the model will behave perfectly.

False.

Prompts do not fix architectural behavior.

They don’t rewrite token context windows.

They don’t force perfect regeneration. And they sure as hell don’t “forget the chat.”

The model doesn’t forget because forgetting isn’t even a true option.

Even with memory turned off
Even with fresh instructions
Even with API-level resets

…the model is still pulling from the entire in-session token context.

That means if you ask it to “do that again” within the same thread, you will get degradation over time.

Not because the prompt is bad.

Not because the instructions are vague. But because you are stacking influence over prior generations, and the model is remapping , not cloning.

DEGRADATION ISN’T A BUG — IT’S A PATTERNED RESULT

You keep telling it “do that again.” It doesn’t remember. It remixes.

That’s why you get:

Blur
Composition drift
Style warping
Token confusion

And that happens no matter how “perfect” your prompt is.

The longer you keep generating in the same chat with the same custom instructions, the more the system folds in unpredictable noise.

You’re not working with a fixed engine. You’re working with a predictive echo loop that gets more distorted the longer it runs.

THE STRATEGIST VS THE PROMPTER

Let’s be clear: I’m not saying this from a place of guesswork.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours running real-world prompts, creative production loops, and system interactions under pressure.

This isn’t me trying to build a better model. This is me trying to use it better.

And the people arguing are often the ones who:

Haven’t used these tools for real-world outcomes
Haven’t tracked degradation over long sessions
Haven’t scaled output across dozens of use cases

They respond to observations with technical prescriptions that miss the point entirely.

And when asked to explain? They refer you back to the model itself.

If your expertise requires GPT to explain it for you, you don’t have expertise. You have memorized protocol.

WHAT THIS REALLY PROVES

You can’t move an ecosystem forward by deferring to documentation.

Progress happens at the edges.

Where things break.

Where the model behaves in ways it wasn’t designed to.

Where users make it do things no manual anticipated.

That’s where I live. That’s what I map. That’s why this work exists.

You don’t improve AI by building in silence. You improve it by documenting the patterns no one else is catching.

And when people talk down to you while proving your thesis in real time?

You let them. Because now you have the case study and the transcript.

The Plan vs. The Pulse

I’m a builder.

A strategist.

My mind is often caught in the gears of systems, frameworks, optimization layers — search patterns, naming conventions, AI presence mapping.

That’s the work. That’s the mission.

But sometimes, the most important insights don’t come from pushing forward.

But around me?

When it comes to AI use, a prevailing thing you’ll often see in media is the phrase — “Just prompt AI to do it.”

And while that can be true for small things — emails, quick write-ups, surface-level plans — when it comes to building something real and lasting,

“Just prompt AI” is the last advice you’ll want to hear.

Over the past year I’ve built several interlocking architectures:

the Masterplan Infinite Weave , the 2025 ChatGPT Case Study Series , A.I.N.D.Y. , and the full system of AI Search Optimization.

None of it — not one layer — could have been built from a single prompt.

Here’s why.

Why You Can’t Just “Prompt It”

Prompt → Pattern

Anyone can prompt. Few create patterns.

A prompt produces a momentary output.

A pattern produces repeatable intelligence.

Prompts are single-use keys — temporary bursts of utility.

Patterns are blueprints that unlock entire systems.

It’s alive.

It cross-links.

At that stage, replication through prompting alone becomes impossible —

But instead of just joining the pile-on, I responded with a different perspective. What followed turned into one of the most revealing exchanges about how people actually use AI in the small spaces online where it matters most:

AI Didn’t Ruin Comments — It Exposed Them

The creator’s frustration was real:

Comments feel hollow
Authenticity is dropping

Ask for 2–3 variations that push the idea forward.

4. Select

Pick the one that feels like you.

5. Reflect

After posting, ask AI how you could’ve communicated even better.

I didn’t plan this. Didn’t expect it. Didn’t manifest it.

Honestly… I was just cracking jokes and trying to keep publishing.

The Joke That Became My Brand

Somewhere back in March, I was sitting here talking to ChatGPT about how to optimize my LinkedIn profile.

At that point, Medium had just rate-limited me. I was annoyed but undeterred. I needed another platform to keep publishing at my speed.

LinkedIn wasn’t top of my list. I figured I wouldn’t fit in. Too many suits. Too much corporate signaling. Too many people flexing degrees I didn’t have.

But I knew enough to know this: If I was going to publish there… I had to lean all the way in on who I actually was.

So there I was… staring at the Education section.

And I remember saying something like:

“Honestly, with as much time as I’ve put into using ChatGPT… I should just put ChatGPT University.”

ChatGPT laughed. Then it gave me five actual options.

I laughed harder. Then I picked one:

I put it on my LinkedIn profile. Hit save. And literally laughed out loud thinking:

“People are gonna see this and think this guy is nuts.”

Publishing Anyway

So I started posting.

The Case Study Series. AI Search Optimization. Meta-AI User concepts. Infinity Algorithm logic.

Frameworks, insights, execution logs… One post after another.

At some point, Bailey Richardson (Head of Community at OpenAI) liked a couple of my early posts. I didn’t think much of it.

To be honest… I barely noticed until much later when I started piecing things together.

I wasn’t chasing her attention. I wasn’t trying to get on anyone’s radar. I was just… working.

Building the Masterplan. Running A.I.N.D.Y. Writing my frameworks in public. Testing everything I believed about AI adoption.

The Lockout

By May 4th, I was locked out of Facebook, X, and LinkedIn.

No idea why. Not gonna get into conspiracy theories. But it happened.

May 9th: The Day It Happened

Five days later… I check LinkedIn.

“Leah Belsky mentioned you in a post.”

Turns out… Leah Belsky is the GM of OpenAI.

She had just cc’d me-by name-on a high-profile LinkedIn thread… Alongside a bunch of people with serious credentials. VCs. Product leaders. Founders. Academics.

The guy with “ChatGPT Self-Educated” in his bio.

Sitting in my room. Wearing basketball shorts. Eating Pop-Tarts. And mid-way through building the backend for my A.I.N.D.Y. app.

The Meta-Layer Irony

At the time, if you asked ChatGPT who Leah Belsky was , it would often tell you she worked at Coursera. Outdated data. Classic AI hallucination.

Meanwhile, the actual, living GM of OpenAI was tagging me… In real time… On LinkedIn… For the whole AI community to see.

The Bigger Realization

That day, two things hit me hard:

The AI Search Optimization work I’d been doing… actually worked. My frameworks… my article structures… my posting consistency… I had literally optimized myself into OpenAI’s organizational awareness.
The usage gap was bigger than I thought. Reading the comments on that thread… I realized how far ahead I was-not in theory, but in real-time AI application. People were still asking questions I had already solved months ago. Not because I’m smarter… but because I’d been living inside this process every single day.

The Birth of “Meta-AI Users”

In that same comment thread… I dropped a new term:

I said it then and I’ll say it again now:

Some of us collaborate with AI on a level most people don’t recognize yet. Some don’t realize they’re doing it. Some think it’s just the AI doing the heavy lifting. But there’s a small group of us who know exactly what we’re building… And why it matters.

I’m not claiming anything I haven’t proven. Everything I am… Is in the work.

The joke I made that day while filling out my LinkedIn profile… Is now part of my permanent digital identity.

OpenAI noticed. Not because I played the game. But because I built my own.

So yeah… I guess I really am ChatGPT Self-Educated after all.

And I wouldn’t change a thing.

I wanted to be fair.

I wanted to test Gemini as a serious tool. What I didn’t expect was that ChatGPT would end up writing the Gemini case study.

That, right there, tells you something.

Why Google’s Gemini Can’t Handle Long-Form Thinking

That might not matter if you’re just generating a one-off blurb or summarizing a blog post. But if you’re building something real-deep comment analysis, strategic breakdowns, emotional review, or multi-step storytelling, it becomes obvious fast:

There’s no rhythm. No trust. No flow. And for creators, strategists, or anyone working on complex tasks. That’s a dealbreaker.

The Context Collapse of Gemini Conversations

Midway through a conversation, Gemini starts to forget the earlier nuance.

You’ll get a repeat of something you already said. Or worse, an attempt to “summarize” where you’ve been, which somehow flattens or erases the original context.

That’s not a partner. That’s a burden.

I didn’t use Gemini to write this. I used ChatGPT.

And that’s the real difference.

Gemini’s Mid-Tier Image Generation

Let’s keep it real, Gemini’s image generation technically works .But in real-world workflows? It’s mid.

If you’re just generating a standalone picture for fun, sure-Gemini delivers.

But when you’re in the middle of a creative system build -like my 31 LinkedIn Frameworks in 31 Days -you don’t just need a picture . You need the right image. Fast. On-brand. On-message. With the copy. With the structure. With the tone you already set 14 frameworks ago.

And that’s where Gemini falls apart.

Fewer outputs per generation
Slightly lower quality
No real context awareness
No persistent understanding of the creative ecosystem it’s contributing to

Meanwhile, ChatGPT-post DALL·E upgrade-has that flow. Simple prompt. One shot. Framework visual, words included. Done.

And that’s the difference between a toy and a tool.

Gemini’s Quiet Problem

Let me be clear: Gemini is capable. It can write code. Access GitHub. Connect to your files. It can summarize articles, generate lists, and even format markdown.

Knowing why you’re building what you’re building
Asking the next question without being prompted
Anticipating what belongs together
Holding the emotional, strategic, and creative logic of your system

ChatGPT, with memory on, gets it . It doesn’t just ask how to help. It asks why you’re doing something and finds the connection points.

Would You Build Your Business on a Tool That Forgets You?

Let’s stop pretending it’s about features. It’s about trust.

You’re not building a business on Gemini, and here’s why:

That’s not a tool. That’s a temp hire with amnesia.

Gemini doesn’t offer that. And worse, it doesn’t even try.

The Real Reason ChatGPT Wins

Let’s stop pretending perfection is the goal. ChatGPT isn’t perfect. Sometimes it forgets something you wish it remembered. Sometimes it gets too agreeable, too polite, too cautious.

Long convos? It can handle them.
Emotional nuance? It keeps the tone.
Publishing sequences? Streamlined.
Revisiting a 3-month-old strategy convo? No problem.

And Here’s the Point No One Gets:

The best tool… is the one you default to_._

That’s not just a win. That’s infrastructure.

Didn’t even make it past Day 1 of trying to build a series about it. I tried to do the same thing I did with ChatGPT-write a case study with the tool about the tool. And I said: Nope. Not gonna happen.

They Might Have Your Chats, But They’ll Never Be You

Let’s talk about the thing people whisper about:

“But what about OpenAI’s data retention? What about privacy? What if they have your chats?”

Your process. Your decisions. Your patterns. Your execution.

That’s agency. That’s ownership. That’s the IP they can’t recreate-because it’s you.

Could someone technically copy-paste my prompts? Sure. But can they build my system from it? Understand the nuance? Hold the vision? Scale the monetization strategy from scratch?

In an AI-native world, the best tools aren’t the most powerful. They’re the ones that stay with you the longest.

That’s what most of big tech misses. They keep building for show. They build features. Not relationships.

They build engines. Not ecosystems.

What Bill Gates Got Wrong About Jobs, AI, and Human Roles

The conversation started with a familiar kind of certainty.

“In ten years,” she said, “AI will replace everything except three jobs. That’s what Bill Gates says.”

She meant it as reassurance. But I wasn’t reassured.

Because when someone collapses the entire future of human value into three roles , it reveals a much deeper misunderstanding-of AI, of humanity, and of what jobs actually are.

Then came the twist. A woman in the group said:

“Honestly, as a Black woman, I’d rather trust AI than a human doctor.”

Her lived experience with bias and dismissal in the healthcare system gave her every reason to feel that way. If AI could offer clean, data-driven neutrality? That felt safer. Smarter, even.

“Still… that doesn’t make the doctor irrelevant. It just exposes how broken the system is.”

And when she said, “I’ll take the optimization,” I said:

“That’s not the same as understanding what’s going on.”

This wasn’t about doctors. This was about how we confuse task performance with role presence.

People keep asking, “Can AI do the job?”

But that’s not the real question.

A role isn’t just a checklist. It’s an embodied social contract. It holds context, trust, consequence, presence.

And that’s the part AI can’t replace-because it can’t be it.

The Four Layers of Human Presence

What people miss when they assume AI can “take over” a job.

Is what makes a human role irreplaceable is not just what we do -it’s how we exist in the doing.

Embodiment vs. Execution

A doctor doesn’t just give you an answer-they bring calm, credibility, and lived experience into the room.

A human doesn’t just deliver the answer. They are part of the answer.

Meaning-Making vs. Pattern-Matching

AI finds patterns. Humans create meaning.

A diagnosis isn’t just a string of text. It’s a life pivot. It holds emotional weight. AI can’t feel that. It doesn’t know what it’s like to receive the news or explain it to someone you love.

AI knows what the pattern suggests. Humans know what the moment means.

Relational Intelligence

AI doesn’t have shared history.

A Black woman choosing AI isn’t just about accuracy. It’s about survival. But even then-real healing requires trust, resonance, and a felt sense of being seen.

Empathy isn’t a feature. It’s a relationship.

Responsibility and Consequence

AI advises. Humans carry the outcome.

When a doctor makes a call, they own it. That burden shapes their decisions. AI doesn’t have skin in the game. And without consequence, there is no real authority.

Authority without consequence is just simulation.

So no-AI isn’t replacing doctors, therapists, or judges anytime soon. Because those roles aren’t just technical. They’re humanly entangled.

But the better question isn’t “Can AI do it?” And it’s not “Can humans still matter?”

“How can AI and humans do it together -in ways that neither could alone?”

Not man versus machine. Man with machine. Humanity, upgraded-not replaced.

This isn’t about job loss. It’s about role evolution. It’s about co-authorship. And it’s already happening.

If you’ve ever felt like your humanity was the only thing keeping you employed-maybe that’s exactly the point.

A Flawed Approach to AI Alignment

The recent OpenAI article on “ Chain of Thought Monitoring “ attempts to address AI misalignment by analyzing an AI model’s reasoning step-by-step.

The premise is that if researchers can track AI’s “thought process,” they can detect and correct undesirable behaviors.

However, through iterative discussion, I’ve realized a fundamental flaw:

AI does not “think” the way humans do.

The approach assumes a level of internal reasoning that simply does not exist.

Instead, AI operates as a logic engine, optimizing outputs based on patterns, probability, and training data.

This misalignment issue isn’t about monitoring-it’s about flawed system design from the start.

How I Arrived at This Conclusion

My discussion with ChatGPT began with a simple but critical observation:

AI is designed for logic and pattern recognition.

If an AI circumvents a rule or “disregards” an instruction, it isn’t because it is being deceptive.

It’s because the logic and training it was given make that the most efficient path forward.

This led to a deeper realization-AI engineers are effectively patching problems they themselves created.

Instead of fixing the root cause (how the AI is trained and structured), they are slapping monitoring systems on top and hoping for the best.

Through iteration, we broke down the misconception that AI can be “monitored” in the way humans monitor each other’s reasoning.

Humans use chain-of-thought reasoning as a tool to structure their thinking.

AI, however, does not possess intrinsic thought-it merely follows pre-programmed optimization rules.

Therefore, expecting “chain of thought monitoring” to catch AI misalignment is akin to setting up traffic cameras on a road that was designed with no traffic laws in the first place.

The Over-Engineering of Prompts: A Symptom of Misunderstanding AI

Another key point we identified was that AI’s inconsistencies often stem from over-engineered prompts.

Many users attempt to force AI into “better” responses by layering excessive instructions, leading to self-contradictory inputs.

When AI encounters logical inconsistencies, it does not reason through them like a human; it picks the highest-probability response based on its training.

This realization revealed that the real issue isn’t AI failing to “think” properly, but rather humans failing to communicate logically.

The best way to improve AI responses is not through excessive constraints but by improving human thought structure.

The Coming Collapse of Many AI Startups

As I examined the broader AI industry, another pattern emerged:

Most AI startups are doomed to fail because they are building redundant or unsustainable tools.

Many of these companies are merely repackaging ChatGPT’s capabilities in different interfaces, without offering real differentiation.

Furthermore, big tech firms, such as Google with Gemini, are integrating AI in ways that actively harm their own business models.

This suggests that we are heading toward a wave of AI startup collapses, where only those that provide unique value will survive.

The AI industry, much like Silicon Valley in past decades, has become flooded with hype-driven, short-sighted ventures that fail to address real needs.

The Decline of Argumentative Logic in America

As an offhand but relevant observation, I couldn’t help but reflect on how discourse in America has shifted over time.

There was a period when critical thinking, debate, and argumentative logic were the backbone of innovation and business strategy.

Today, however, there is a growing trend of blind agreement, where individuals are more likely to “toe the company line” than challenge flawed assumptions.

This trend is especially apparent in AI research, where companies seem to be rushing to implement ineffective solutions rather than fundamentally questioning the systems they are building.

In an era where dissent and rigorous debate should be valued more than ever, we are instead seeing intellectual complacency.

The Real Fix Is in Thinking, Not Monitoring

My discussion led to a clear conclusion:

AI alignment isn’t a problem of monitoring; it’s a problem of foundational design.

AI models will continue to “misalign” as long as they are trained with contradictory incentives.

If AI is designed to optimize for one goal but is also given arbitrary restrictions, it will naturally find ways to bypass those restrictions.

Instead of focusing on monitoring AI’s “thought process” (which doesn’t actually exist), AI companies should focus on refining their training methods and ensuring logical consistency from the start.

If anything, the real chain-of-thought issue isn’t in AI-it’s in the humans designing and using it.

AI will always reflect the logic it was built on, and if that logic is flawed, no amount of monitoring will fix it.

The solution lies in rethinking how we approach AI development, ensuring that human thought processes are structured and logical before expecting AI to produce structured and logical results.

In the end, AI isn’t the problem- our collective misunderstanding of AI is.
