Welcome to Introduction to Git & GitHub! 💻🚀

Hacktoberfest is right around the corner! Every October, developers around the world celebrate open-source software by contributing to real projects. It is a fantastic way to learn, build your resume, and win exclusive gifts and digital rewards.

But to participate, you need to speak the language of open-source: Git and GitHub.

Whether you are a complete beginner who has never touched a terminal, or someone looking for a quick refresher, this online session is for you. Hosted by Charaka Hashan Amarasekara, this session is completely free and open to anyone who wants to learn!

Let’s get you ready to make your first real open-source contribution!

🔗 Get the meeting link: https://luma.com/v7l4kcyj

 What we will cover:

What is Version Control?

The difference between Git and GitHub.

Basic Git commands every developer needs to know.

How to make your very first open-source contribution safely.

 How to prepare before joining:

To make the most out of this hands-on session, please try to do the following before we start at 8:00 PM (GMT 5:30 +):

Create an Account: Head over to github.com and create a free account.

Download Git: Download the Git installer for your operating system.

Pro Tip: If you feel confident, go ahead and run the installation! If you aren't sure what options to click, just download the file and wait. Charaka will guide everyone through the installation and show you exactly how to link Git to your new GitHub account during the session.

Let’s get your workstation ready for Hacktoberfest! See you on Sunday!
