For Gen Z, crypto isn’t a speculative experiment — it’s a practical financial layer. Unlike earlier cycles driven by ideology or pure price narratives, younger users approach crypto through control, flexibility, and real-world usability.

According to Protocol Theory, 49% of Gen Z in the U.S. have used crypto exchanges, while 37% actively hold or use crypto assets like BTC. This signals normalization, not hype. Crypto is already part of how this generation thinks about money.

Holding over staking is a conscious choice

In conversations across the space, a clear pattern emerges: most crypto holders don’t stake at all. When they do, yields typically stay below 10% annually, which in crypto terms is a balanced and relatively conservative range.

This doesn’t reflect a lack of opportunity — it reflects intent. Higher yields exist, but for many younger users, they’re treated as short-term or entry-level instruments, not long-term portfolio anchors.

Yield as an entry point, not a strategy

This is where beginner-focused products become relevant. Short duration, fixed terms, and transparent mechanics lower the barrier for new users exploring yield for the first time.

From the user side, Bitcoin keeps moving toward boring reliability. Wallets are cleaner, flows are predictable, failures are rare. That’s good UX.

From the builder side, it’s the opposite story.

Bitcoin infrastructure in 2026 is heavier than ever: custody standards, AML/KYC at wallet creation, chain analytics, incident response, audits, and regulatory reporting. None of this shows up in the UI, but all of it ships with real cost, timelines, and risk.

This tension is well described in a recent article by Vlad Anderson, where he points out an uncomfortable truth:“We’ll build our own wallet” is rarely a strategy — it’s a speed tax.

In practice, owning a wallet stack means 6–12 months of engineering time, followed by continuous security reviews, compliance processes, and on-call ops. You’re not just writing code — you’re running financial infrastructure. Meanwhile, other teams integrate and ship in weeks.

That’s why Wallet-as-a-Service has become the default architecture, not a shortcut. Infrastructure is now a solved problem at the platform level. Execution is not.

In 2024, the cryptocurrency market experienced a true boom in OTC trading. According to Finery Markets, the volume of OTC trades increased by +106% compared to 2023. And 2025 has not slowed down this trend. The reasons are clear:

Not long ago, I consulted with one of my clients. He wanted to purchase a significant amount of cryptocurrency but had one condition - no market impact. This coin was already in high demand, and any noticeable price jump could have triggered more buying, pushing the price up before my client completed the deal.
