A story of data analytics and 175 zettabytes of data!

I’ve been working as a Business Intelligence Developer and have been rigorously working on data, building a data warehouse and creating analytical reports.

There is no secrete that data analytics is the future. It is an ever-evolving field that is transforming the way businesses operate and make decisions.

By leveraging data-driven insights, organizations can gain a competitive edge and maximize their potential. As data analytics continues to evolve, it will become increasingly important for businesses to stay ahead of the curve and use data to inform their decisions.

Today I’m sharing exact 10 reasons why I think Data Analytics is the future.

 1. Data Is Growing

It is estimated that the world will generate 175 zettabytes of data by 2025. Without data analytics, the future would be unimaginable. Data is growing rapidly due to the Internet of Things, social media, and a more digitized world.

Unstructured, raw data is of no use without data analytics, which is essential for making sense of it and deriving valuable insights.

 2. Analytical Reports

Every online system has its analytical reports, designed to present meaningful insights in an easy-to-understand format and as quickly as possible. Don't believe me? Just open any mobile app and you'll find a dashboard with various metrics starting from social media apps, fitness apps, to finance apps.

You'll find analytics everywhere, and it's a fun fact that we've all been using it for quite a while now. Dashboards and reports are becoming more modern every day.

Their loading time is decreasing, and data update frequency is increasing. Businesses are paying attention to providing a great user interface on top of analytics reports.

Example 1: LinkedIn Analytics

Open LinkedIn and you'll find analytics such as views, likes, comments, and more. Other social media platforms also have similar metrics. LinkedIn's built-in profile analytics reports are not that good enough, so I use ShieldApp Analytics to view my LinkedIn profile analytics.

It's a lifesaver analytics tool when it comes to analyzing the content created by me in the last couple of years.

The reports summarise what kind of content gets maximum engagement, what's working, and what's not working.

It helps me to produce more content around topics which has got more engagement in the past.

Example 2: Apple’s Health App

Another example could be an Apple Health app. You’ll find nice dashboards and reports that show your activities, and health-related information.

Example 3: Electricity Consumption Report

Almost all electricity providers have their mobile apps where you can see the details about your daily consumption, prices, invoice and so on. This is very useful for you to keep track of your electricity utilization.

In case your electricity provider doesn’t have a mobile app or online portal it means they are not yet digitally empowered.

They need a bunch of mobile app developers, BI developers and data analysts who can build their online system better by creating meaningful dashboards and reports.

These are some examples of how users view the information in reports. Taking a step back, consider how many reports and dashboards these companies have created to monitor multiple metrics.

They need to keep those reports up-to-date so they can make informed decisions about the company's direction.

 3. DDD: Data-Driven Decisions

The business world is becoming more data-driven. Companies are increasingly recognizing the value of data and investing in data analytics to gain a competitive edge.

People are more informed and don't want to rely on guesswork when making business decisions. Data analytics is helping to improve decision-making, allowing companies to make better decisions and improve their bottom line.

 4. Customer Experience

Data analytics is enhancing customer experience. Customers are conveying their preferences through their activity, and businesses must interpret this data and activity to gain insights.

By doing so, companies can better comprehend their customers' needs and customize their products and services accordingly. This can help them to resolve major or minor business issues and open up new opportunities.

 5. Optimized Operations

Every business has operational costs. Data analytics can help to identify inefficiencies and improve operations by analyzing processes and activities in the back end. This enables companies to make informed decisions and optimize their operations.

You can save a lot of operational costs by analyzing data generated through operational events and optimizing it for the good.

 6. Improve Products and Services

You must try to capture as much data as possible. It is the best way to gain insights about your products and services. It can provide a more comprehensive understanding than what you already know.

Data analytics can be used to enhance products and services. By analyzing customer data, user activity, and events, companies can uncover new opportunities and create innovative products and services.

 7. Optimize Marketing Efforts

No matter what kind of marketing techniques or marketing channels you use, in the end, everything gets analyzed and evaluated based on some metrics. For example

Social media marketing can be evaluated based on brand awareness by looking at content reach, engagement, etc

Email marketing can be evaluated based on open rate, link-click ratio, etc.

Performance marketing can be evaluated based on the number of leads generated, click-through ratio, etc.

Evaluation metrics may vary from business to business, but the fundamentals remain the same. Data analytics is helping to improve marketing.

By analyzing data from the various marketing methods and channels used, companies can develop more effective campaigns and better reach their target audience.

 8. Healthcare

You may not be aware, but almost all clinical trials are done through the data analysis on test data. It is close to impossible to perform a clinical trial or research without data analytics.

A clinical data analyst verifies the validity of scientific experiments and gathered data from research. The purpose of these data analytics is to ensure that processes and protocols are followed, thus improving the quality and efficiency of care.

Data analytics also plays a major role in maintaining the healthcare system, and in generating accurate and precise medical reports after test data collection.

Data analytics is helping to improve healthcare. By analyzing data, healthcare providers can improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.

 9. Demand

The average Data analyst salary in the United States is $82,207 as of today and it’s going to increase year by year (source).

You can literally open LinkedIn right now and search for “Data Analyst” jobs listed in your city. You’ll be shocked to see the number of opportunities awaiting for you.

You can quickly test the popularity of data analytics by searching for it on Google Trends. Visit Google Trends, enter the keyword "data analytics", and view the trend over the past 10+ years.

Data analytics is a lucrative career path. As the demand for data analytics increases, so does the demand for skilled professionals in this field. Before this field becomes saturated, you must act quickly to get the most out of it.

 10. Path to Data Science

Data analytics is a subset of data science, but it's not essential to become a data scientist. However, knowing data analytics can give you a competitive edge when transitioning from data analyst to data scientist.

I highly recommend this path to becoming a successful data scientist. You'll have a better grasp of sources, data, operations, business rules, current issues, and the exact requirements. This will help you to design and build a useful machine learning or AI model.

If you still have doubts or questions about the field of data analytics, don't hesitate to reach out to me on Twitter or LinkedIn.

I've been writing online for a while now. Most of my work is published on LinkedIn, but I still like to write daily on LinkedIn, Twitter, and my website.

I discovered the power of content writing early in my journey, which enabled me to capture the attention of a wide range of professionals on LinkedIn—51,077 followers to date.

I am applying the same while writing essays on my blog. I also follow the same steps to write tutorials on my sas programming blog.

The method is the same, but it can be used in different areas and disciplines.

 Technical Writing System

Writing without a system is like going for a swim without a swimsuit - in an empty lake.

Having a writing system is like having a routine that you follow every day. You can make that system better by optimizing it over time.

5-Step Technical Writing System:

Idea

Research

Outline

Write

Edit

 1 Idea —Technical Writing System

The first and most important stage of writing is note-taking. Don't think of yourself as a typical writer, the one who sits by a river with a blank piece of paper and starts writing. This is a fictional and imaginary character. At least I have not seen anyone doing it.

This is an outdated, movie-like image that has been ingrained in our minds. I'd call it a "typical old-fashioned movie effect".

Taking notes is an essential part of the writing process. Throughout the day, we have tons of ideas, but most of them are forgotten because we don't record them. They come to mind and then disappear.

To capture these ideas, you need an intermediate system – a note-taking system. To make use of this system, you must develop a habit of taking notes. This serves as a dumping ground for your ideas and is the starting point for your writing.

There are some amazing tools out there to make a note-taking system that is easier and more searchable. Here are some best tools which I recommend. Pick one.

Notion

Evernote

Trello

Apple notes

 2 Research —Technical Writing System

You have your idea dumping ground filled with lots of content ideas. Now it's time to pick just one and do some in-depth research.

When researching, focus on four main points:

Analyze the topic in detail

Look for relevant sources

Identify potential problems

Gather relevant data and statistics

Searching the internet yields tons of resources. YouTube is also a great source of information. To make your point more credible, it is recommended to include numbers, stats, and references from authoritative or well-known publications.

Google Scholar is a great place to start. You can just simply search your topic keyword on Google Scholar and read two or three relevant research papers. Then, incorporate your understanding into your content by referencing the research papers.

Reading articles or reports from well-known blogs can help improve writing quality. Two examples that come to mind are the LinkedIn blog and HubSpot blog.

Everything related to your research should be recorded in a note-taking system, including links and a few lines summarizing your thoughts and understanding.

 3 Outline —Technical Writing System

You have a lot of scattered information at this point. Streamlining it will be easy when you go through all your notes. This process is known as creating an outline, which consists of a title, headings, and information in the form of bullet points or a few lines.

It's important to review the outline twice, as it decides the flow of the article and gives it direction.

When creating an outline, it's beneficial to plan for space to add relevant memes, GIFs, images, or videos. Focus on bullet points, but be as descriptive as possible. This will help you to quickly and easily write your first draft by referring to your outline.

4 Write Your First Draft— Technical Writing System

Now is the time to begin writing content. The first draft should be free-flowing and unencumbered by concerns about grammar, spelling, or anything else.

Use the outline as a reference point to start writing and don't stop until all your ideas are down on paper. Write everything you know about that topic.

There is a rule for writing a first draft: don't use the backspace key. Writing quickly and without distractions will make the draft more useful and meaningful. You’ll not have content shortage issues while editing the content.

You don’t need a fancy tool to write content. Here is the list from which you can choose one that best suits you.

Google docs (my favorite)

Notion

Grammarly

ilys.com

novlr.org

dailypage.co

5 Edit, Edit, and Edit — Technical Writing System

The real fun begins here. It's a general rule of thumb that if you spend 30 minutes writing a draft, you should spend at least 60 minutes editing it.

This isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's one that many experienced writers follow and recommend.

Editing should fix the following problems:

Tone

The flow

Grammar

Spelling mistakes

Unwanted clutter

The following tools can be a lifesaver when editing content. You don't need to use all of them. Just one is sufficient.

Grammarly

Hemingway app

Stackedit.io

Grammarcoach.com

Once you're finished editing, it's time to focus on creatives. Canva tool can be your go-to for designing and creating images, memes, GIFs, or videos for free. You don't need to hire an expensive designer to create a featured image for your article. Anyone can use Canva and create stunning designs using their inbuilt templates.

Congratulations! You're ready to publish your first technical article online.

If you have your website, you can post your article there. But there are other options to get more exposure. Consider submitting your article to other platforms, such as social media, blogs, and forums.

BONUS: Publish Articles on multiple platforms

Your website should be the primary place to publish articles. It is the only platform you own, so you have full control.

For other content publishing platforms, you can either re-write the article or copy it as-is, adding a canonical link back to the original post. This tells search engines that the article was first published elsewhere and provides a link to the original.

What are the options you have?

Medium

Hashnode

Dev .to

Typeshare

I have seen people effectively reusing their content to get the maximum exposure they desire. This article was first published on my website and then published on other platforms.

Do check out my profile and content on Medium, Hashnode, Dev.to and compare it with my personal blog!

I’ve been living happily in Oslo, Norway for the past 6 years. Norway has been recognized and honored multiple times as the happiest country in the world, according to the happiness index.

Here are 7 practical reasons, based on my own experiences, why Norway is the best place to live in the world:

 1. Natural beauty

Norway is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, featuring fjords, mountains, lakes, and forests. The Northern Lights and fjords are among the country's most beloved attractions.

Summer brings lush greenery, autumn is full of vibrant colors, winter is blanketed in snow, and spring brings a refreshing breeze. For me, autumn is the best season of all.

Behind the clouds, the sky is always blue.

If you're looking to experience the true essence of Norway, try searching for "Norway in a Nutshell". You'll be amazed by the beauty of the entire journey.

The weather in Norway is truly remarkable, especially for someone who has moved from an average temperature of 30°C to 3°C.

 2. High standard of living:

Norway is renowned for its high living standards, with a robust economy, low unemployment, and a high GDP per capita. It has also been recognized and honored as the happiest country in the world on multiple occasions. With a low population, there is less crowding, clean roads, advanced medical facilities, and excellent public transport. Owning a Tesla or any expensive car is not considered a big deal.

International vacations are a yearly routine for many Norwegians. You’ll rarely see someone showing off materialistic things. Norway is indeed an expensive country but you get a high standard of living and comparatively good salaries.

Everything is balanced out but plus point is you live a quality life. In general life in Norway is calm and peaceful.

 3. The People

Norway and its people are distinct. People generally don't converse with strangers. On buses or trains, they tend to avoid sitting next to someone, even if the seat is empty. This isn't because they feel superior or are being rude. It's just how Norwegians are!

They are very kind and warm-hearted. You won't see anyone shouting at someone on the street, in shopping centers, etc.

There is no distinction between black or white, rich or poor, or boy or girl. Everyone is treated equally. Not to mention Norway is a safe and secure country with a low crime rate.

 4. Work-Life Balance

Work is essential, and so is your personal life. No manager should stop you from picking up your kids from kindergarten at 3 pm. You have the right to five weeks of paid vacation each year, which you can take whenever and however you like.

People usually take their vacation around Easter, summer, and Christmas. Working laws are in favor of employees and prioritize mental health. You're also provided with a good pension plan. Hospitals and schools are free for everyone.

You get vacation money just before summer vacation, which you've earned from the previous year. In other words, you pay less tax for that month, so you get a bit more salary than usual.

You also get parental leave for 49 weeks with full pay or 59 weeks with 80% pay. The choice you make applies to both parents.

I hope all countries adopt similar working laws and practices.

 5. Education

Norway believes that everyone should have free access to quality education, regardless of their socio-economic background. In Norway, public universities are fully funded, meaning students don't have to pay tuition fees.

To help cover expenses, students in higher education receive a fixed amount as a loan. Those who don't live with their parents can have part of this loan converted to a grant upon completion of their studies.

The entire education system is designed in such a way that students are encouraged to finish their graduation and master's. That’s the reason the illiteracy rate in Norway is very low.

 6. Healthcare

Norway has a publicly-funded healthcare system that provides high-quality medical care to all residents free of charge. No matter the size of the medical treatment required, residents are provided with paid medical leave until they can return to work. All the bills are taken care of by the government.

Each resident has their digital healthcare file in the healthcare system. This records notes made by their GP, as well as information from hospitals, specialists, and other health institutes, such as medical test results.

Only those directly involved in a resident's treatment can access their medical records. Furthermore, everything is online, so neither the resident nor the hospitals need to physically store medical files.

 7. Social welfare

In uncertain situations such as job loss or hospitalization, Norwegian people are covered by social security benefits. The Norwegian welfare state provides a comprehensive safety net, including free healthcare, education, and social security.

Norway is renowned for its social security program, which is implemented with virtually no corruption.

....

That's all I want to say about Norway. The key points highlighted above make Norway the best place to live in the world for me! You may or may not agree with this title. I totally understand you.

We all live in different circumstances and are at different stages of life. But one thing I can confidently say is that Norway is a beautiful and welcoming country that you won't be disappointed by visiting or living here.

On January 15th, 2023, I celebrated 8 years of working in IT as a software developer. I began my journey in India and eventually ended up in Norway. Time flew by and situations changed quickly.

It has been an incredible experience working in the IT industry as a software engineer. For the last 8 years, I have been working as a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer.

I started working for IT consulting companies in India and eventually moved to Norway. I worked for 2 years in India and 4 years in Norway as a BI Consultant. For the last two years, I have been working for product-based companies as a BI Developer.

I have gained experience across industries and continents, from logistics (supply chain management), telecommunication to consumer banking.

I strongly believe in gaining hands-on experience before discussing it publicly. I have seen 15-year-olds talking about “how to do financial planning in your 30s” on Instagram Reels. Crazy, right?

That’s why probably, I waited 8 years to write this article. I hope my experience in IT as a developer can provide you with some value.

15 Valuable Lessons I have learned as a Developer

 1. You will never know EVERYTHING

No matter if you call yourself a junior, senior, or even an expert in your field, never say that you know everything. It is better to adopt the philosophy of knowing nothing than to sound arrogant or overconfident.

Technology is growing at an unprecedented rate, making it almost impossible to keep up with everything. It doesn’t matter how many years of experience you have; there will always be people who know more or less than you.

I can’t emphasize this point enough without quoting my favorite saying:

“When you say I know everything is a disrespect to God.”

 2. Start Small and Then Extend

Many young developers, new to the corporate world, have ambitious dreams of creating something big and innovative.

However, most of the time, these dreams fail to come to fruition because they try to take on too much without understanding the fundamentals. While it may work for a few, it is a rare case.

It is important to start small.

If you want to learn C programming, start by learning how to print “Hello World” in C.

If you want to learn Python, start by learning how to print “Hello World” in Python.
Don’t try to build a game in Python without even knowing how to write two lines of code that print “Hello World”.

Remember: start small, not slow.

People often confuse the two. Iteration is key to becoming a good developer. Once you are comfortable with the basics, you can gradually extend your knowledge. At the end, you will be surprised by how much you have achieved.

 3. Make One Change at a time

Imagine yourself working on multiple projects, each of which requires changes to multiple things. The rule is never to make two different changes to the same code or application simultaneously.

Doing so takes a lot of time to investigate when errors or bugs are reported. It’s a nightmare to find the root cause.

It’s even worse when multiple people have worked on the same code but on different requirements at the same time. Your code versioning software may not be of help in some scenarios.

That’s why, when there are interconnected change requirements, you should work on one project, one requirement, and one change—at a time.

 4. There will always be bugs

No matter how many software testers have tested the solution, there will always be small or big bugs. The most common bugs that don’t get caught during testing are scenario-based bugs.

Sometimes there is a specific situation you didn’t even think of before causes the error in the production. All you have to do is be ready to do investigation and find the solution on those bugs.

It’s important to accept this reality, and not be afraid of any bugs. There are always solutions to fix them, you just need to address them correctly. If you can’t find the solution, check with your seniors.

If nothing works, clearly inform your project manager as soon as possible. When giving updates on the progress, be sure to communicate clearly and critically.

 5. There is nothing called as a perfect code.

Today’s perfect code is tomorrow’s trash. Don’t wait for someone else to tell you this secret.

You can cross verify that by yourself. Just go and open that code you wrote a year ago. You’ll find plenty of things you can improve and write better now.

The knowledge we have today and the technology we have now is always less than what we’ll have tomorrow. So don’t focus too much on perfection. Have a mindset of sprinting.

If you keep trying to make your code perfect, you won’t be able to finish it on time. The only solution I suggest is to split the work into pieces. Prioritize one task at a time and try to make it as close to perfect as possible within the allocated time, then move on to the next one.

This is how you can finish your work on time without sacrificing quality by writing code that is as close to perfect as possible.

 6. Communicate concise and clear

Communication is essential. As a developer, communication is key in understanding the project requirements, finding the ideal solution, and delivering the results.

Always keep a clear and open communication line with the stakeholders and team members. Be proactive and take the initiative to ask questions and discuss solutions.

Even if you feel like you know the answer, never assume and think twice before giving any solution.

Invest your time and energy mastering email communication. It’s an essential tool in business. Writing emails well can help you build relationships, communicate effectively, and be more productive.

You have to make sure to keep everyone informed of the progress, changes, and decisions. Lastly, never forget to document everything.

 7. Document everything

Writing documentation is an integral and important part of the software development life cycle. The better and quicker you write it, the easier it is to get approvals.

Documentation should start with a change proposal and include planning, design, architecture, and testing. System documentation is also necessary to move from one stage to the next, and finally close the project.

If you take part in a hackathon or any competition, documentation is also an important factor getting considered.

In general, it’s always a good idea to keep records. These documented notes can help you revise any logic you built a year ago, teach your team members, or facilitate knowledge transfer.

Software is incomplete without adequate documentation.

People are constantly changing, but the company, department, team, and solution you’re working on remain the same.

To ensure that any application, solution, or code is not dependent on any specific person, documentation processes should be followed strictly.

You need to improve your skills, become more comfortable with writing technical documentation.

 8. Keep Learning

Since I began my IT journey in 2015, I have worked on Windows, AIX, Linux, and now Cloud. In just 8 years, I have transformed my skills across four major operating systems. New technologies are evolving rapidly, and it’s important to keep up.

It’s no surprise that everyone knows the benefits of learning, but many people stay in their comfort zone and ignore the learning part.

Life is all about learning new things, no matter your profession. If you don’t keep learning, your skills will become outdated.

In this ever-changing technological world, it’s dangerous to stop learning new skills. You never know when you’ll need them.

Keep learning to stay ahead of the curve.

 9. Ask for help

Need help? Don’t hesitate to ask!

Everyone needs help from time to time, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Reach out to relevant people and get the support you need.

As discussed earlier, you’ll never know everything and that’s okay. When you’re stuck, find the right person to connect with and ask your query.

If you’re completely stuck, inform your project manager or boss. Good leaders understand this and will help you find the people and resources you need.

 10. Appreciate Others

Don’t expect from others the same way you expect from yourself. Try not to set unrealistic expectations.

Appreciate your team members every time they deliver something. Showing gratitude for their hard work and dedication is essential for creating a positive work environment.

Acknowledging their efforts, no matter how small, can help to boost morale and foster collaboration.

Never underestimate the power of a good network. Good connections with colleagues, mentors, and clients can open up doors that would have otherwise remained closed.

It’s important to build relationships and trust with the people you work with. If you have a good team, you can expect to get better outcomes.

You must take the time to thank your team members for their contributions and recognize their achievements. Doing so will help to build a strong, unified team.

A simple “thank you” or “great work, (name)” can make a world of difference. Showing an appreciation can brighten someone’s day and make them feel valued. So let’s take the time to appreciate others.

 5 Personal Principles

 11. Family First

Always follow the family first principle. It should be the number one priority. You must ensure that your family members are taken care of and that their needs are met.

Working in IT can be stressful, and it’s important to take the time to rest, relax, and recharge. You should practice self-care by getting enough sleep, eating healthy, and exercising regularly.

You can also make sure to take time off to do things you enjoy and to spend time with your loved ones.

 12. Work on Side Hustle

Nothing is more dangerous than relying solely on one source of income. That’s why it’s important to have a side business. You don’t need to build a multi-billion dollar company, something small that can pay your bills is more than enough.

The best way to start a side hustle is to identify what you like to do in your free time. It could be reading, writing, playing games, speaking, exercising, etc.

Zoom in to find the opportunity to capitalize on those activities. You don’t need to have 100 different things to build a side hustle, just one is enough.

 13. Big NO to office politics

People often gossip and engage in office politics to get a 1% raise or a promotion. To stay in the boss’s good graces, people do terrible things.

You can always choose to leave instead of playing politics. If I find myself in the same situation, I’d always choose to move on.

Engaging in office politics is morally, ethically, and fundamentally wrong. Don’t be complicit in your own actions.

 14. No bad words

No matter how poorly you were treated in your previous company, never speak ill of your ex-employers, managers, or colleagues. Life is a full of circle. You never know when you’ll cross paths again.

I’m not suggesting you forget the experience, but it’s always important to be mindful of what you say, especially when you’re leaving or have already left those people behind.

Learn Writing: Share everything you know
I’m a fan of writing, and an even bigger fan of sharing my knowledge. People who intentionally withhold information are the most despicable and close-minded. They lack transparency and disregard other points of view.

They can’t win any battle —neither professional not personal. I’ve seen people holding back their knowledge out of fear of being left behind by other team members, but the truth is they’re already behind by miles.

I follow this strategy:

Learn, Do, Share.
Learn, Do, Share.
Learn, Do, Share.

I’ll never compromise my principles. This blog is also part of it. I don’t need to write articles and share my knowledge, but I choose to do so willingly.

Writing is enjoyable and straightforward. Documenting your professional skills by taking a few minutes each day to write about what you’re learning and doing can be a beneficial ritual. Not only will it help others, but it will also benefit you greatly.

Technical writing offers numerous advantages, both for the developer and the reader. It helps the writer to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner, while providing the reader with a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

*Benefits of Technical Writing
*

Recognize as an expert publicly

Improve clear thinking

Skillset upgrade

Get better at documentation

*How to get started with technical writing?
*
I would highly recommend to have a personal blog which requires a small investment. Getting started with writing doesn’t have to be expensive.

You can begin writing with no investment at all on platforms like Medium, Hashnode, or Dev.to. Alternatively, you could invest in setting up a personal blog.

Whichever route you choose, you’ll be on your way to becoming a technical writer!

Simple Steps to Follow:

Create a blog.

Gather ideas for articles.

Do thorough research on one idea.

Draft your article.

Edit, rewrite, and finalize it the next day.

Publish it on your blog.

Bonus: Share it on social media.

The process is straightforward and easy. The only issue you may face is maintaining consistency.

At first, repeating the simple process over and over may seem challenging. But believe me, once it becomes a habit, it’s hard to break.

Wishing you the best of luck with your writing!
