As of May 2020, 988 children were rescued specifically because of the AMBER Alert in the United States📢. Our goal was to improve this system, which can enable the public to make better decisions in identifying 🔍 missing people. Our target was not just aimed at children but also extended itself to include people of all age groups. The statistics clearly suggest that the first 24 hours⏳ are crucial when a person goes missing. Therefore, our major objective was to address two major issues i.e. false sightings and sending alerts to a large number of people. The reason why we decided to go with a PWA is that the users can save the app to their device in case if they want to report any sightings in the future.</li> <li>The admin panel is built using <a href="https://reactjs.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer">React</a>⚛️ for the investigators where they can send out the alerts and check the sighting status</li> <li>We have used <a href="https://nodejs.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Node.js</a> for the backend</li> <li>There's a map🗺️ displayed on the page which shows the location of the sighting. Thanks to <a href="https://www.mapbox.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mapbox</a> for providing the platform for custom designed maps and <a href="https://github.com/haxzie" rel="noopener noreferrer">Musthaq Ahamad</a> for the MapBox style <a href="https://stylebox.netlify.app/crystal-night" rel="noopener noreferrer">Crystal Night</a> </li> <li>For authentication, hosting, database, and the storage (to store sighted and missing person pictures) we are using <a href="https://firebase.google.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Firebase</a> </li> <li>Face detection and verification are done using the <a href="https://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/services/cognitive-services/face/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Microsoft Face API</a> </li> <li>We are making use of <a href="https://cloud.google.com/functions" rel="noopener noreferrer">Cloud Functions</a> to make an API call to the Face and store the results to the database when the sighting is reported.</li> </ul> <h2> Additional Thoughts / Feelings / Stories </h2> <p>We started working on this because of the <a href="https://www.hackerearth.com/challenges/hackathon/missing-hackathon/" rel="noopener noreferrer">missing hackathon</a>. We were able to make it to the final round but couldn’t bag any prizes🏆. Nonetheless, we came up with an amazing project. So we thought why not complete it as our final year project.✨</p> <blockquote> <p>It always seems impossible until its done - Nelson Mandela</p> </blockquote> <p>Building the admin panel was very challenging for us as we didn’t know a lot about web development. We looked up online for help and decided to go with some popular frameworks. After months of work, we were able to release the initial version of our project. We’ll be rolling out the stable version of the project very soon, as it is still under development. If you have any new features in mind please submit a PR.
