One tiny problem, it all started with one tiny problem. I was thinking to enter in b2c app market and build something that helps a normal person manage his recurring bills & subscriptions. Not just a subscription manager but yes, something in line of a recurring billing and subscriptions, that helps user manage the subscription fatigue and utilites, I ran Gemini research and found few interesting metrics,

59.9% have at least one unused paid subscription, wasting an average $26.79/month, or >$321/year on abandoned services

and

89% of us underestimate their recurring spendings.

Now that’s something you can put into charity and good deeds, instead of wasting!

This space is already crowded and competitive with established players with and without Plaid integrations, like Rocket Money, Bobby, SubX, to name a few.

What I wanted was very simple, to know exactly the right approximation of what my monthly burn is and how much I am committed to spend in a year.

These two metrics paired with some others can tell you, a whole lot about your financial needs. Also, it was never about subscriptions. It was about our recurring fixed and variable expenses and their monthly and yearly outlook for an informed decision.

Now I don't take manual inputs as laborsome, as I can only input what is due today or take sometime to fillin a few major expense to know the exact outlook in my native currency, yes we spend in EUR or USD and earn in EUR or USD but our mind is still processing those in our native currencies, depending on where we live.

I built just that, I added notification to get reminders of renewals or due dates, I am in process of handling variable recurring payments and better the metrics but the is the gist of what I really want to look at to make my financial descisions.

Meet Vence: Bills and Subscriptions - Manage recurring bills, subscriptions, estimate monthly burn in your native currency.

This just a beta, lots of bug fixes and features to come before it gets to where I want it to. Initially I thought I was after subscription manager or more like fixed expenses but that doesn't meet my requirement or even market requirement, there are many apps already tackling that.

Thoughts, insights and suggestions are welcome dev.to 💖.
