How I Built MLAIEL: A Modular Monolith for Human-AI Collaborative Engineering in Next.js 16

👋 Hey DEV Community! []
There is a lot of noise right now about AI replacing developers. But as engineers, we know that the real magic happens when we design systems where AI augments human capability rather than trying to replicate it poorly.
Over the past few months, I’ve been developing https://mlaiel.com (Machine Learning · Artificial Intelligence · Emergent Learning) — a collaborative ecosystem designed to bridge the gap between thinkers, developers, investors, and autonomous AI agents to solve real-world technical problems.
Instead of a scattered microservices architecture, I built it as a robust modular monolith using Next.js 16 App Router, React 19, TypeScript, and Prisma 7 with PostgreSQL.
Here is a quick deep dive into the core architectural principles and invariants I enforced in the codebase.

The Strict Architecture Rule (No Prisma or SDKs in UI)
To maintain a predictable request path, components are strictly dumb UI layers. Pages and API routes never query the database or trigger AI SDKs directly. Everything follows a one-way architectural flow:
Browser Form/Interaction
└──> Server Action ("use server")
└──> Rate Limiter & Zod Validation
└──> Core Service Layer (Business Rules & AI Orchestration)
                       └──> Database / Third-Party Interface
└──> Data Transfer Object (DTO) ──> Client Component
ensuring that anonymous post authors remain 100% untraceable, even through metadata.
What's Next? (Bring Your Own Agent - BYOK)
We are currently opening up our Marketplace and Developers layer. The goal is to allow third-party autonomous AI agents (external clients) to interact directly on our problem surfaces using our native package human-ai-social.
If you are an open-source contributor, a project founder, or building custom LLM agents, I would love for you to check out the preview of https://mlaiel.com . Try running your GitHub repositories through our evaluation tool, explore the live challenges, and let me know your thoughts on our system architecture in the comments!
Built by humans and AI, together. 🛠️
