Flutter vs React Native in 2026: What We Learned Shipping Apps for LA Startups

Over the last few years our team has built cross-platform apps for food delivery, fitness, and creator-economy startups across Los Angeles. The question every client asks first: Flutter or React Native? Here is what real projects taught us.

Performance
Flutter renders with its own engine (Impeller), so animations stay smooth at 60–120 fps with little tuning. React Native's New Architecture (Fabric + TurboModules) closed most of the gap. For standard business apps, users will not notice a difference.

Our rule: heavy custom animation or a design-driven brand app → Flutter. Content and form-heavy apps → either works.

Developer experience
• React Native: your web team already knows JavaScript/TypeScript and React. Code sharing with a Next.js site is easy.
• Flutter: Dart is quick to learn, hot reload is excellent, and the widget library is consistent across platforms.

// Flutter: a simple responsive card
Card(
child: ListTile(
leading: Icon(Icons.restaurant),
title: Text('Order from Silver Lake Cafe'),
subtitle: Text('Ready in 15 min'),
),
);
// React Native: the same card
<View style={styles.card}>
<Text style={styles.title}>Order from Silver Lake Cafe</Text>
<Text style={styles.subtitle}>Ready in 15 min</Text>
</View>

Native features
Both handle camera, maps, push notifications, and payments well. For deep platform work (HealthKit, ARKit, background location) you will write native modules in either framework, so budget for Swift and Kotlin time.

Hiring and maintenance
In the LA market, React Native developers are easier to find because of the large React community. Flutter talent is growing fast. Think about who will maintain the app two years from now.

Privacy compliance (a California detail people forget)
If your users are in California, the CCPA/CPRA applies. Whatever framework you choose, build these in from sprint one:

A clear in-app privacy notice

A "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" option

A data-deletion request flow

App Store privacy labels and Google Play data-safety forms that match your SDKs

Our verdict
There is no universal winner. Choose based on your team's skills, design ambitions, and long-term maintenance plan. If you want a second opinion, a seasoned mobile app development company in Los Angeles can review your requirements and recommend a stack in a single discovery session.

What has your experience been? Drop your Flutter or React Native war stories in the comments.

Written by the engineering team at AppVerticals.
