How to Caption Short Videos Automatically (and Actually Post Them)

How to Caption Short Videos Automatically (and Actually Post Them)

Every creator hits the same wall: the video is recorded, but publishing it means opening an editor, typing subtitles word by word, syncing them, exporting, cropping for each platform. Most videos die in that folder. Here is the fast path I recommend when people ask how to get consistent captions without touching a video editor.

 The 3-step workflow

Upload or paste a link. Tools like ViralWiz take an MP4 or a URL and transcribe the audio automatically, word-level timing included.

Pick a caption style. Karaoke word highlight, keyword coloring, clean minimal lines. The style matters more than people think: bold high-contrast captions consistently outperform thin gray ones on TikTok and Reels.

Export per platform. One click gives you a 9:16 MP4 with captions burned in, ready for Shorts, Reels, TikTok or LinkedIn.

Total time for a 60-second video: a couple of minutes, most of it upload time.

What to check before subscribing to any captioning tool

Word-level accuracy on your actual audio (accent, jargon, multiple speakers), not on the demo video.

Burning captions into the file, not relying on platform auto-captions: burned captions survive re-uploads and keep the style you chose.

Platform-sized exports (9:16, 1:1, 16:9) so you stop re-cropping by hand.

Translation support if you target more than one language. ViralWiz covers 50+ languages, which changes the math for international channels.

The part nobody budgets time for: consistency

The real bottleneck is not captioning one video, it is captioning thirty. This is where automation pays off:

Batch import your raw footage and process it in one pass.

Auto-detect the best moments of long videos and cut them into vertical clips instead of scrubbing the timeline.

Generate thumbnails in the same workflow so a video goes from raw file to scheduled post without context switching.

Free way to test the pipeline

Before paying for anything, run one real video through the free plan and compare: time spent, caption accuracy, export quality. If the captions need heavy manual fixing on your audio, try a different tool; if the output is post-ready, you just bought back hours per week.

This post is a practical overview for creators evaluating captioning tools. No affiliate links.

I launched Plantoya: you adopt a real vegetable plot and watch it grow live

Most "digital garden" products are metaphors. Plants that grow when you click a button, pixels pretending to be vegetables. I kept thinking: what if the garden was real, and the app was just the window?

So I built Plantoya: a service where you adopt a real vegetable plot, in a real garden, far away from your screen.

 What Plantoya actually is

You pick a plot of 9 blocks on plantoya.com. You choose your vegetables (tomato, eggplant, zucchini, carrot, pepper, okra and more). A team of growers in Madagascar prepares the soil, plants your seeds for real, waters them, and films everything: land preparation, manual planting block by block, watering, weeding, first sprouts.

Then you watch. Your plot joins the field footage and you follow every stage of growth, from bare soil to harvest, with videos and photos taken on site. Not stock images. Your actual plants, in actual dirt.

The whole flow is explained on the how it works page.

Why a garden and not another app

Two reasons. First, food: most of us are completely disconnected from where it comes from. Watching a tomato you chose slowly fight its way from seed to fruit changes how you look at the ones in your fridge.

Second, ownership. A plot has a name, a dedication, a story. People dedicate theirs to their mother, their kids, their clan. It becomes a small piece of the real world that belongs to you and grows without you managing notifications. Seeds start at 2.90€, which is cheaper than most in-app purchases and you get actual vegetables at the end.

The parts people did not expect

A few product decisions turned out to matter more than I thought:

Clans: plots can join a clan and climb a collective leaderboard. Strangers now water their tomatoes partly for the team ranking.

Public parcel pages: every plot can be shared with a public URL, so people send their little 9-block kingdom to friends and family.

Gifts: you can plant "for your mother" instead of "for yourself", which made the product much more emotional than a typical subscription.

 What's next

More crops each season, more footage from the field, and the collective events around the clans. The available vegetables are listed on the crops page, each with its growth duration.

If the idea of watching a real garden grow from your laptop sounds fun, take a look at Plantoya. And if you have launched something physical + digital yourself, I would love to read how it went in the comments.

Reading Hadith Online: What a Good Encyclopedia Should Include

Hadith collections are now widely available online, but the reading experience is often an afterthought: scanned pages, broken navigation, no context. Having worked on the hadith encyclopedia of Moustaqim, here is what we consider essential when evaluating (or building) an online hadith resource.

 The non-negotiables

Collection structure: narrations organized by the book they come from (Sahih al-Bukhari, Muslim, the Sunan...), not as a flat keyword soup.

Full isnad visibility: who narrated what, to whom - even if the grading is out of scope for your site.

Honest presentation: separate the reported text from commentary, and never paraphrase in a way that puts words in the narrator's mouth.

Search that works in transliteration (Bukhari/bokhari) as well as in Arabic script.

 Reading aids that change everything

Cross-references between related narrations, short biographical notes on narrators, and a clean typographic hierarchy between the matn and the surrounding commentary. On Moustaqim we also keep the interface ad-free, because reading a narration should not feel like walking through a market.

 For developers

If you want to build on hadith data, start from structured sources and respect the licensing of each collection. Our open datasets follow the same philosophy we apply to hadith: clean schema, honest metadata, free reuse.

Prayer Times in Your App: Data, Calculation and a Free Reference Site

"Where do I get prayer times for my app?" comes up in every Muslim developer community. Here is a practical overview, plus a free reference you can point your users to.

 The three approaches

1. Calculate locally. Libraries implement the astronomical formulas (solar declination, equation of time) with methods like Umm al-Qura, MWL or ISNA. Precise and offline, but you must pick a method - and users will compare your output with their local mosque.

2. Use an API. Several free APIs return times by city or coordinates. Watch the rate limits and always store the calculation method with the times you display.

3. Link to a trusted reference. Sometimes the honest answer is to let users check a maintained site. Moustaqim computes prayer times by position and documents its methods, in multiple languages - a good destination for a "prayer times" link from your docs or settings screen.

 Details that matter

Asr: Shafi'i (shadow length factor 1) vs Hanafi (factor 2) - expose the choice.

Fajr/isha angles differ by method; in high-latitude countries this changes everything.

Midnight is not 00:00: the Islamic midnight differs from civil midnight.

 What we do on Moustaqim

The platform pairs prayer times with the Quran in multiple translations, a Muslim names database (CC0 sample on GitHub) and a hadith encyclopedia. It is free, multilingual, and built to be linked to.

If you ship an Islamic app, make the data provenance visible - your users will trust the times more.

If you are building an Islamic app - a names finder, a family planner, a content site - one of the first technical problems is the data: where do you get a clean, structured list of Muslim names with their Arabic spelling, meanings and gender, without scraping or paying for a vague CSV?

We faced the same problem while building Moustaqim, a multilingual Islamic platform, so we opened our data.

 The dataset

The muslim-names-dataset repository contains a JSON sample released under CC0 (public domain):

{ "id": 1, "name": "Muhammad", "arabic": "محمد", "meaning": "Praiseworthy", "gender": "M" }

Each entry includes the Latin spelling, the Arabic script, a short meaning and the gender. The sample is small on purpose (30 curated entries); the goal is to give you a clean schema you can extend or map against the full platform.

 Why CC0 matters

Most "free" name lists online are copied from each other with unclear licensing. CC0 means you can use it in a commercial app, remix it, translate it, or ship it inside a mobile app without asking. Attribution is appreciated but not required.

Ideas we would love to see

Mobile apps for expecting parents, with favorites and sharing

Language learning tools that use names as vocabulary anchors

Statistical or historical analyses of name trends across regions

API wrappers that merge names with transliteration libraries

The main moustaqim repository also documents the platform's other datasets. Pull requests that improve the data quality (missing meanings, alternative spellings) are welcome.

The long-term goal is simple: structured, licensing-safe Islamic data that any developer can build on.

Moustaqim: Open-Source Islamic Resources Platform (Quran, Prayer Times, Muslim Names, Hadith)

Moustaqim is a multilingual Islamic platform that gathers essential resources in one place: the Quran with translations, prayer times, a large database of Muslim names, a hadith encyclopedia and an Islamic dictionary. The English portal and the French root site are free to use, without ads walls.

 What you can find

Quran: every surah in Arabic with translations, designed for comfortable reading on desktop and mobile.

Prayer times: daily schedules computed by location, useful at home and while travelling.

Muslim names: thousands of names with Arabic script, transliteration, meaning and gender.

Hadith encyclopedia: narrations organized by collection, with context.

Islamic dictionary: short, reliable definitions for terms like tawhid, zakat or ijma.

 Open source

The project publishes datasets and tools under open licenses on GitHub:

moustaqim - the main repository describing the platform and its datasets.

muslim-names-dataset - a CC0 sample dataset of Muslim names (JSON), ready to reuse in any project.

If you build Islamic apps or just need structured data, the names dataset is a good starting point, and the full platform offers thousands more entries with search and filters.

 Feedback

Issues and pull requests on the GitHub repositories are welcome. Suggestions for new languages or datasets are welcome too: the goal is a free, structured and multilingual reference for the Muslim community.
