This semester, I have been enrolled in an Intro CPP class. Needless to say I didn't get my pick of the litter when it comes to profs because </p> <p>A.) The pandemic<br> B.) It's summer and most profs are on holidays. </p> <p>With that being said, the prof I have now is pretty bad at his job. There were things that were on the test that had nothing to do with what he taught during the first half of the semester. Luckily, I was able to figure somethings out and did a patch job for things I didn't really know how to figure out yet. I am definitely more of a hands on approach learner than I am by reading it.</p> <p>So, what should I do to keep myself motivated and to keep learning? Are there any websites that you would recommend? I had a classmate who finished the test easily. He's probably the smartest in the class..but with what was taught, I asked him for tips. I'm currently living and studying in Toronto, Canada. I've recently embarked on my journey to becoming a software designer in a couple of years.</p> <p>These past 6 weeks of classes have been "interesting" to say the least. I'm coming from a computer engineering program where I realized I thoroughly enjoyed programming a lot more than I thought. So, I switched programs after speaking to a friend of mine. The programming courses I took were barely transferrable into this new program. I was shocked, but thought you know, I rather be doing something I enjoy in the future as opposed to not.</p> <p>This is where I have some what been slapped in the face with a shock factor. My old programming classes would allow us to somewhat freestyle our programs so as long as the program works, all is find and dandy in the prof's eyes.</p> <p>This isn't the case with the new program. I was never informed of how strict the marking curriculum is. Everything is checked against your code using a script that the prof(s) has written. Yes, EVEN down to spacing. </p> <p>This has really discouraged me the last couple of weeks. I understand that there are things that need to be taught since it may be industry standard. I really do try and put in the time and effort to understand the material that is being taught at hand on the week of. However, it's starting to drive me insane. </p> <p>It's kind of been discouraging. I guess I'm posting for a morale boost or even a suggestion as to how I can conquer the doubts in myself that I'm beginning to have.</p> <p>Have any of other computer science / programmers run into the same brick wall that I am now running into?
