Hi Dev community!

I realize I haven't been as active as I have hoped and I wanted to update on my progress.

Right now...

As you might have guessed, I'm struggling in my second year as a programmer, especially trying to become proficient in algorithms and logarithms at the same time as understanding CPU architectures and the wonders of C programming. I'm finding it difficult to keep up but I want to improve on my time management ability so I can really enjoy my courses (and college life too!)

New position!

However I'm excited to announce that I joined the Robotics Research Lab at my University! I'm really looking forward to working on more embedded systems projects and getting my hands dirty with hardware, learning how to use an Arduino, and how to connect figures like web traffic to a physical number counter to display it. I hope to finish this project and start working on another haptics project my mentor has ready for me once I finish this one. Not only is this lab hands on, but it helps people like me with little experience work at my own pace, and gain help at every step, not to mention how kind everyone is in the lab! Hopefully this experience will help me stand out to recruiters and land an internship in Summer 2026.

I hope to start actually posting my projects and code soon, but first I have a mountain of assignments and studying to finish!

Introduction

Hello Dev community!

I am a Computer Science and AI student at IE Madrid. I joined DEV to become a part of a larger community of creators where I can learn and grow, as well as record my progress over the coming years. I really enjoy coding and challenging myself as much as possible, and I continue this attitude with everything in my life including hobbies like cooking and boxing!

I plan to post anywhere from casual daily insights to projects and questions for the community every week!

(PS This is also my first blog, please feel free to send any tips not only on code but anything else as well!)

Today's Insight
I am beginning my internship search for next summer and already struggling to find places that accept people in their second year of study. There's so many things to prepare for that I feel overwhelmed already.

My next steps are to figure out GitHub and how to create a portfolio, update my LinkedIn and CV, and spiff up on my coding skills. Hopefully I can achieve all of this during the first week of school so I can apply to the good internships ASAP before they're all gone. (Somehow, some already ended).

I find it frustrating that so many companies want interns already ready to graduate, or expect ten-million and one skills to apply, but there's really nothing to do except try to learn at least a few more to maybe stand out. I know a lot of us are in the same boat with this struggle, but maybe the more we begin to enter into jobs and internships, the more change will come!

I'm off to planning how to manage all of this, I hope you all are having more luck than me!
