&lt;p&gt;GraphQL is a query language for APIs and a server-side runtime for executing queries using a type system you define for your data. &lt;br&gt;
It was designed to provide a more efficient, powerful, and flexible alternative to traditional REST APIs. &lt;br&gt;

  Why GraphQL over  REST API?
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;ol&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Efficiency:&lt;/strong&gt; With REST APIs, clients typically receive a fixed set of data for each endpoint, which can be either too much or too little. This can result in multiple API calls or clients processing unnecessary data. GraphQL, on the other hand, allows clients to request only the data they need in a single request, reducing network overhead and improving performance.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Flexibility:&lt;/strong&gt; With REST APIs, changes to the data model can require changes to the API endpoints, which can break client applications that depend on those endpoints. GraphQL provides a flexible and strongly-typed schema that allows clients to query the data they need, regardless of how it's structured on the server. This makes it easier to evolve the API over time without breaking existing client applications.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Type system:&lt;/strong&gt; GraphQL has a rich type system that allows developers to define and enforce the structure and relationships between different data types. This makes it easier to reason about the data model and catch errors early in the development process.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Tooling:&lt;/strong&gt; GraphQL comes with a rich ecosystem of tools and libraries that make it easy to build and test GraphQL APIs. This includes tools for schema validation, documentation generation, and client-side code generation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  Types of Operation in GraphQL
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In GraphQL, there are three types of operations that can be performed:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ol&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;code&gt;query&lt;/code&gt;: Used to retrieve data from the server. A query operation defines a set of fields to be retrieved from the server and their corresponding types. Query operations cannot modify data on the server and are typically used to fetch data for rendering user interfaces.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;code&gt;mutation&lt;/code&gt;: Used to modify data on the server. A mutation operation defines a set of fields to be modified and their corresponding types. Mutations are typically used to perform create, update, or delete operations on data stored on the server.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;code&gt;subscription&lt;/code&gt;: Used to receive real-time updates from the server. A subscription operation defines a set of fields to be subscribed to and their corresponding types. Subscriptions are typically used to receive notifications about data changes that occur on the server in real-time.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Each operation type is preceded by a keyword (&lt;code&gt;query&lt;/code&gt;, &lt;code&gt;mutation&lt;/code&gt;, or &lt;code&gt;subscription&lt;/code&gt;) and is followed by a set of curly braces that contain the fields to be retrieved, modified, or subscribed to.&lt;br&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In a GraphQL query, the operation name is used to give a name to a specific operation, such as a query, mutation, or subscription. This name is optional, but it can be helpful in distinguishing between multiple operations in a single GraphQL document. The operation name should be a valid GraphQL name and is specified after the operation type keyword (i.e. "query", "mutation", or "subscription"). Here's an example of a GraphQL query with an operation name:&lt;br&gt;
