I built a programming language that speaks Urdu, Turkish, and Spanish — from an Android phone

English is the invisible gatekeeper of programming. Before you write your first
if
, you already need to read English. For 6 billion people, that's not a feature — it's a wall.

Two years ago I started asking a simple question: what if programming keywords existed natively in the learner's mother tongue?

The answer became NexusLang — an open-source, self-contained programming language where you write
agar
instead of
if
in Urdu,
eğer
in Turkish,
si
in Spanish. The compiler bridges it to standard English syntax under the hood, so you think in your language but ship in the world's language.

Today, three language packs are live (Urdu, Turkish, Spanish) plus English. 25 native keywords each. 100% test suite passing. Built solo from an Android phone in Argentina, with zero budget and a cross-border partnership in Pakistan.

Here's what I learned.

 Why this matters

Most "inclusive" programming projects focus on UX. They make the editor prettier, the errors friendlier. But none of them touch the actual syntax. You still write
function
,
return
,
while
in English.

NexusLang attacks the gate itself.

The insight is simple: keywords are vocabulary, not grammar. The grammar of programming — scope, types, control flow — is universal. The vocabulary is just labels. And labels can be translated.

How the bridge works (v11 architecture)

NexusLang v11 is self-contained. It does NOT translate to Python. Source code runs on its own engine:

Lexer — tokenizes source (Urdu/Spanish/English keywords), respecting strings and comments.

Parser — recursive descent, builds an AST.

Interpreter — tree-walk execution over the AST with scoped environments.

Under the hood, each native keyword maps to its English equivalent during tokens:
compiles to:
The AST is identical. The compiled output is valid standard code. No magic, no runtime overhead, no lock-in.

A learner can start in their mother tongue, get fluent, and gradually switch to English keywords without rewriting a single line.

 Real syntax, real semantics

NexusLang isn't a toy. It ships with:

Imperative: variables, operators, conditionals, loops (
while
,
for
,
break
,
continue
)

Functions: recursion, closures

Data: lists
[.]
with indexing
a[0]
, dicts, strings, math

OOP: classes (
کلاس
),
self
(
خود
), constructor (
بنا
), methods, attributes

Modules:
برآمد("file.nx")

File I/O: read / write

Errors:
try/catch
(
کوشش/پکڑ
) + friendly messages in the learner's language

REPL: interactive shell

Trilingual keywords: Urdu / Spanish / English

Three language packs, 25 keywords each

The current packs cover the most-spoken languages that also have the largest populations excluded from English-first tech education — with a deliberate focus on Pakistan, where Urdu is the national language and English proficiency is a real barrier to entry:

Urdu (پاکستان) —
agar
,
warna
,
jabtak
,
chapo
,
کلاس
,
خود
,
بنا

Turkish (Türkiye) —
eğer
,
yoksa
,
sürece
,
yazdır

Spanish (LatAm + España) —
si
,
sino
,
mientras
,
imprimir

English (global baseline)

Each pack ships with a dedicated formatter (LAF) and its own test suite. Urdu has full RTL support in the web interface.

 Built from an Android phone

I don't have a laptop. I built the entire stack — compiler, parser, test runner, web interface, documentation, marketplace — from Termux on a mid-range Android phone.

This is not a gimmick. It's a design constraint that forced elegance. Every decision had to be defensible on a 6-inch screen and a slow 4G connection. The codebase ended up smaller, cleaner, and more testable than it would have been with a full workstation.

The partnership with Pakistan is real: a co-founder in Lahore handles seller onboarding for NexusShop (the parallel marketplace), and we share equity 50/50. The language packs will pilot in Pakistani technical schools next quarter through the Virtual University of Pakistan.

 Current status

Component

Status

Version

NexusLang Core

✅ Stable

v9.4

NexusVM

✅ Stable

v8

NexusBase (Ledger)

✅ Stable

v9

NexusShop

🚧 Pilot

v1

Urdu RTL Support

✅ Stable

v6

License: MIT — free to use, fork, and contribute.

 Roadmap

[ ] NexusShop pilot launch (Pakistan, Nigeria)

[ ] University pilot program (Virtual University of Pakistan)

[ ] Mobile app for merchant onboarding

[ ] Community-contributed keyword libraries (Hindi, Arabic, Portuguese)

[ ] NexusLang Pro (advanced features for professionals)

 What's next

Pakistani school pilots: NexusLang as the first language in 3 technical institutes

5th language pack: Arabic (RTL support in the web interface)

IDE integrations: VSCode extension with native keyword autocomplete

Bridge to WebAssembly: so NexusLang code runs anywhere JavaScript runs

 The question I'm sitting with

Is a mother-tongue programming language a real contribution to CS, or is it a pedagogical bridge that learners outgrow in 6 months?

I don't know yet. But I know that every learner who writes their first
agar
in Urdu instead of staring blankly at
if
is a small win against the gatekeeper.

Repo: github.com/neuralfocusai-rgb/NexusLang
Live demo: nexuslang.vercel.app
Marketplace: neuralfocusai-rgb.github.io/Nexusshoop
Press kit: neuralfocusai-rgb.github.io/presskit

Built with ❤️ in Argentina 🇷 · Tested in Pakistan 🇵 · Expanding to World..

Feedback welcome. Brutal feedback especially welcome.
