Opinion: Is it time to consolidate work SaaS?

Introduction
In the last decade, the B2B SaaS landscape has expanded exponentially. As a result, businesses today often find themselves juggling between 150-250 different SaaS tools to operate. Such a hyper-fragmented work environment raises the question: is it time for SaaS consolidation?

The Drawbacks of SaaS Fragmentation
Employee Productivity Concerns: The frequent switching between different apps and contexts results in a notable 10% drop in productivity, as reported by HBR.
SaaS Financial Impact: Companies often allocate funds for SaaS features that remain underutilized. Such expenditures can unnecessarily strain budgets.
Data Modeling Challenges: Every SaaS platform introduces its unique interface, adding another layer of complexity to how business data is structured, often leading to data redundancy and confusion.
Operational Demands of SaaS: Introducing a new SaaS solution means setting up and managing one more user system, data labeling system, and file organization structure.

Specialized vs. General SaaS: The Need for Unity
Specialized SaaS tools are designed specifically to departmental requirements, such as Deel for HR or Linear for Product Management. On the other hand, General SaaS platforms aim to facilitate wider collaboration and efficiency across multiple departments (e.g., Notes, Tasks, Whiteboard apps).

Our Proposition: a significant portion of these general SaaS solutions can be streamlined into one cohesive work suite. The advantages are manifold:

User Experience: A consistent interface that enhances ease of use.
Data Handling: Unified data labeling protocols and centralized storage.
Security: With fewer platforms in play, monitoring and securing data becomes more straightforward.
Efficiency: Reduces the need for constant app switching, promoting focused productivity.

We believe that the future of SaaS lies in the ‘osification’ of each department, with a Sales OS, a Product OS, etc., as well as a General OS, like Frame.

AI increases the need for a clean, centralized data
AI an be seen as an accelerator for the importance of having centralized, clear, and coherent business data. Streamlined and well-labeled data sets enhance the quality of AI-driven insights. However, even for the best AI, if key information, like a work-related note, is locked away in personal tools, its value cannot be harnessed for business insights.

Looking Ahead: The Rise of the AI-Augmented Employee
We envision a workspace where centralized data enables employees to function as 'augmented professionals'. They can combine AI-driven insights with their inherent expertise for better decision-making.

Conclusion
