Hey all! So I'm trying to understand some things about GitHub. I've gotten good at using terminal to commit and push / pull to my own repositories and whatnot.

What I'm not grasping is how people contribute to other people's repositories. If you can only see the code, how can you make sense of exactly what to contribute? I understand how to fork and make a pull request and everything, I just don't know what to contribute or how people know what to contribute. Help? :)

Hello. Just got done with the second version of my portfolio. I'd love some feedback on it. I think it's pretty good but I'd love to hear different opinions. Would you change anything? Thanks a bunch!

Working Remotely

I really want to start looking for remote web developer positions but I'm not sure where to start. I know HTML and CSS fairly well and I'm getting there with JavaScript. I feel like at this point I can look up anything that I don't know (which I'm understanding is normal even for the most experienced developers).

My question is, do I need to know more before I start looking for a job? If not, can anyone suggest where I should start looking? I really want to get a good start in this field and I'm really tired of holding down jobs that have nothing to do with where my heart is. Any advice would be appreciated.

I wanted to link to twitter on my profile but it linked to my personal twitter account and not my developer one. Is there any way to change this? My developer is @development_ns

JavaScript and manipulating the DOM

This may sound like a silly question but I'm going to ask anyway because it's almost affecting my learning ability. :)

Why do we use JavaScript to change HTML and CSS elements in a webpage when we can just do that in HTML and CSS? As I'm learning JavaScript and changing elements in the DOM I'm asking myself why... why would you want to randomly change text color?

My idea is that they're event based changes and more for the interaction between user and webpage? Like in an image carousel, clicking the arrows would slide in a new image.. am I on the right track with understanding?
