This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady

🦥 TaskPilot — AI Task Manager Companion

Too many tasks, too many deadlines, and too much time spent planning? Been there! 😅

Meet TaskPilot, your AI Task Manager Companion that helps you organize your tasks, manage your time, and keep moving forward—slowly, steadily, and with less hassle!

 What I Built

TaskPilot is a web app designed to help students manage multiple tasks without spending too much time planning everything manually.

Users can add their tasks with descriptions, priorities, deadlines, and estimated study hours. TaskPilot helps organize their workload so they can focus more on doing the work instead of figuring out what to do next.

 Key Features

Smart Task Management: Create, update, and delete tasks whenever needed.

Priority and Deadline Tracking: Organize tasks according to their importance and deadlines.

AI Study Planner: Generate a proposed study schedule based on your tasks, priorities, deadlines, and available study hours.

Progress Tracking: See your task completion progress at a glance.

Upcoming and Completed Tasks: Keep track of what's next and celebrate what you've finished.

Light and Dark Themes: Choose the look you prefer.

The idea is simple: spend less time planning and more time making progress.

And yes, TaskPilot lets us feel a little like a lazy sloth 🦥—because the goal is to make planning easier, not to avoid doing the actual work. Hehe!

 Demo

🎥 Watch the Demo: [https://youtu.be/twX61Fewlnc]

The demo shows how to manage tasks, track progress, and generate a study schedule with the AI Study Planner.

 Code

💻 GitHub Repository: [TaskPilot]

Check out the source code and setup instructions in the repository.

 How I Built It

I built TaskPilot with assistance from GitHub Copilot and integrated Gemma 3 1B, an open-weight AI model, for the AI Study Planner.

The web app is built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I use Ollama to run Gemma 3 1B locally and generate AI responses.

The AI Study Planner is the main AI feature of this project. It considers the task information provided by the user, including priorities, deadlines, and available study hours, to generate a proposed schedule.

Instead of manually figuring out which task to work on first and how to organize study time, users can get an AI-generated plan to help them get started.

The generated plan is a suggestion, so users can still make their own decisions and manage their tasks as needed.

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation makes it easier for students and developers to experiment with AI and build useful applications without relying entirely on paid, hosted AI services.

Using Gemma 3 1B with Ollama allowed me to explore local AI inference without needing a paid hosted-model API for every AI request.

It also gave me an opportunity to learn how an open-weight model can be integrated into a practical web application.

For me, open innovation means having the freedom to learn, experiment, build, and improve ideas with accessible technologies.

 The Lazy Payoff 🦥

Imagine having five assignments, two reports, an exam to prepare for, and deadlines that seem to arrive all at once. Where do you even start? 😵‍💫

You could spend a long time organizing everything manually—or let TaskPilot help you create a plan.

Enter your tasks, set their priorities and deadlines, provide your available study hours, and let the AI Study Planner suggest a schedule.

TaskPilot also helps you track completed tasks and see your progress.

Less planning hassle, more focused work, and a little more sloth energy! 😂

The goal isn't to make students lazy about learning. It's to make the planning process easier, so they can use their time and energy more effectively.

 Prize Categories

Best Use of Gemma

Best Use of GitHub Copilot

Thank you to the DEV Community and the challenge organizers for encouraging students and developers to explore open-source AI and build practical projects!

Let's stay slow, steady, and productive. 🚀🦥
