I run a product adoption tool (Produktly) and pulled anonymized, aggregated numbers across customer accounts for Jan-Jun 2026 (464 companies, 15.8M in-app interactions) to finally answer "what's a good completion rate" with data instead of vibes. Sharing the highlights since these questions come up here a lot:

Median product tour completion is 29% per company. The middle half runs 15% to 55%. If you're at 30% you're normal, not failing.

Tour length is brutal. Tours with 1-2 steps complete at a median of 73%. Tours with 9+ steps: 8%.

Who starts the tour matters even more. User-initiated tours complete at a median of 69%, auto-started ones at 23%. The tour people choose to take is the tour they finish.

Median in-app NPS is +30, with a median response rate of 4.3% of impressions.

Announcements age fast: a median 43% of all the impressions an announcement ever gets happen in its first 48 hours.

Small hover tooltips ("smart tips") get opened about 1 in 1,000 impressions at the median. Cheap to ship, but they won't carry your activation.

Methodology, briefly: medians and quartiles across companies, never pooled averages (one big product would dominate everything). Minimum thresholds per metric, e.g. at least 100 distinct users starting tours per company. Our own account is excluded. The customer base skews small and mid-size SaaS, so enterprise may look different.

The full write-up with distributions and per-metric tables is free and ungated, happy to drop the link in a comment if people want it. Curious what completion rates you're seeing on your own tours.
