Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol each passed all 15 of Flockbay's checked Godot 4 coding tasks on the first try, run headless on the official Godot 4.7.2 on 6 October 2026, and Claude Haiku 4.5 passed 11, then 14 after one fix. Pick Opus 5.5 for the hardest game systems, where it finished ahead of GPT-6.1 Sol in three of five game builds, and Sol for everyday Godot work, where Opus cost 3 to 11.5 times as much at API prices. Flockbay is free and runs them on your own Claude or ChatGPT, with free hosted AI every day if you have neither.

Source: https://flockbay.com/blog/best-llm-for-godot/ · Updated 2026-10-13

Three models passed all 15 Godot 4 tasks, and Haiku 4.5 missed four

Asked for a Node2D that blinks, Claude Haiku 4.5 called AnimationPlayer.add_animation, and Godot 4.7.2 stopped on the line: Nonexistent function 'add_animation' in base 'AnimationPlayer'. That call is from Godot 3. In Godot 4 an animation goes into an AnimationLibrary first. It was one of four tasks out of 15 that Haiku 4.5 got wrong on the first try. Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol got none wrong.

Flockbay ran the test on 6 October 2026. Each task asks for one GDScript file with a stated API, in a fresh Godot project: move a CharacterBody2D with an input action, save a dictionary as JSON, paint cells on a TileMapLayer, cast a physics ray, find a path on a grid around walls. A check scene loads the file and drives it headless on the official Godot 4.7.2 at a fixed 60 frames per second. It presses input actions, steps physics, waits on timers and signals, and compares what happened with what the task asked for. A task that fails gets the check's output once, and one chance to fix the file.

Each model ran as a coding agent allowed to read and write files and nothing else: Claude Code for the three Claude models, Codex for GPT-6.1 Sol. Every task touches an API that changed between Godot 3 and Godot 4, or arrived since: move_and_slide, FileAccess, signals, tweens, Timer nodes, PackedScene, TileMapLayer, ray queries, AStarGrid2D, AnimationLibrary and lambdas.

Haiku 4.5's other three misses are the usual Godot 4 traps. Its health script emitted the died signal twice. Its grid path returned an untyped Array from a function declared Array[Vector2i], and Godot stopped it with a script error. Its coroutine that waits for a signal or a timeout never finished inside 10 seconds of game time. Shown the error, it fixed three of the four. The coroutine still failed: it returned false for a signal 0.2 seconds away with a 1 second timeout.

Speed was close at the top. The median task took the agent 8 seconds on Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5, 10 on GPT-6.1 Sol and 14 on Haiku 4.5, timed from the agent's start to its reply, so Claude Code's and Codex's own start-up are inside it. Every task, the code each model wrote and what Godot printed are on the per-model pages: Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Haiku 4.5. The 15 tasks, their checks and the runner are open source under MIT at github.com/flockbay/godot-llm-bench, so any model can be run against the same tests.

The benchmark: github.com/flockbay/godot-llm-bench.

In game builds, Opus 5.5 finished ahead more often and GPT-6.1 Sol cost a fraction

Fifteen small scripts say whether a model knows Godot 4. They do not say whether it can build a game system and test it. So the same models took on bigger jobs in Flockbay over MCP: a physics truck, a six-legged walker, doors, a rigged character twice and a save system, with the same prompt for every model in a build. They pressed Play themselves and decided when they were done. Then both sides were played or filmed the same way, and each video ended on a verdict.

Opus 5.5 took the physics truck, with a trail more than twice as long, and the doors, where one rule about what counts as in the way jammed Sol's doors and stranded its guard. It also came first of four on a rigged character built with Flockbay's modeler. GPT-6.1 Sol took the same character built in Blender, and beat Sonnet 5.5 on a six-legged walker: Sonnet's could walk into a spot it never walked out of. Save and load was a draw, with both games matching the game left running on 25 of 26 loads.

The bill went the other way. Across the five builds Opus and Sol both played, Opus's runs came to $2.93 to $10.48 at public API prices and Sol's to $0.63 to $1.55, so Opus cost 3 to 11.5 times as much for the same job. Sonnet 5.5's walker cost about seven times Sol's at the same price per token. Every one of these runs went through a subscription, so the dollar figures are estimates at API prices, not what the runs were billed.

Claude Opus 5.5. Verdict: the strongest Godot model measured here, 15 of 15 and ahead in three of five game builds, at 3 to 11.5 times the cost of GPT-6.1 Sol.

GPT-6.1 Sol. Verdict: the value pick, 15 of 15 with two build wins and a draw, each of its builds against Opus costing $0.63 to $1.55 at API prices.

Claude Sonnet 5.5. Verdict: level with Opus on short GDScript, 15 of 15 at the same 8-second median, but it lost the six-legged walker to Sol at about seven times the cost.

Claude Haiku 4.5. Verdict: fine for plain scripts when it sees Godot's errors, at 11 of 15 on the first try and 14 after one fix.

A GDScript edit, a scene edit and an hour-long agent loop want different models

A GDScript function is a short coding task with a strict runtime. The model has to emit Godot 4 names, typed where the project is typed, and a signal connection that actually exists. On that job the three top models tie at 15 of 15, so pick on speed and price. Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 had the lowest median time, 8 seconds, and on 3 October Anthropic's pages listed Sonnet 5.5 at half the API price of Opus. Haiku 4.5 handles the plain ones, a mover, a label, a save file. Check its signals, typed arrays and coroutines, because three of its four misses were there, and the fourth was a Godot 3 call.

Scene editing through MCP is tool use. The model reads a scene, calls a tool, reads the tool result and calls the next one. Every build above was that job, done through Flockbay's MCP tools, and on the doors the difference was how hard each model tested its own work. Opus made 67 model calls and 5 Plays and wrote a three-minute stress test with the player in the doorways. Sol made 23 calls and 2 Plays, and its 46 checks moved the player out of the house first. The Claude docs read on 3 October 2026 say Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 return an error when a request forces a specific tool, so an agent loop on them should let the model choose.

A long agent loop is a context-window problem before it is a quality problem. Every tool result stays in the conversation until something summarises it. On their own pages, read on 3 October 2026, Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Gemini 3.8 Flash each publish a window of about a million tokens, and OpenAI publishes 1,050,000 for GPT-5.5 on the API but 400K for GPT-5.5 in Codex. The builds show the cost side of the same loop. On the truck, the walker and the doors, Opus and Sonnet re-read 8 to 17 million cached tokens a run, and Sol 1.3 to 2.9 million. On a subscription that is usage. On an API key it is the bill.

A cheap model writes working Godot 4 code when it sees the error

Haiku 4.5 went from 11 of 15 to 14 of 15 with one look at Godot's output. That is the useful finding for a cheap model: the error loop matters more than the first draft. A model that runs the game, reads the GDScript parse errors and the debugger, and tries again recovers most of what it got wrong.

Claude Haiku 5.5 came out after the 15-task run and is not in it yet. In its build log it built a Celeste-style jump in Godot over Flockbay's MCP server, with the measurements sent back after each pass and never the fix. Its first pass met 4 of 6 bars, coyote time and jump buffering among them. Its third met all 6. The three passes came to about $0.86 at API prices, and the same tokens on Opus 5.5 would have come to about $7.60.

A local model is the cheapest of all, and none ran these tasks. If you run one, give it the same loop: a headless run and the full error text after every change. Making games with local LLMs covers the setup.

A ranking is true on the day it was run, so this one is rerun

A table that names one best model for Godot is wrong the day the next model ships. Claude Opus 5.5 came out on 22 September 2026 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 on 28 September. Six days apart, both replaced the recommendation a spring article would still be printing.

So every score here carries the day it was measured. The 15 tasks ran on 6 October 2026, and the game builds went out between 5 and 10 October. When a model ships, the same tasks run again on the engine Flockbay ships, the model gets its own dated row, and this URL stays the same.

What lasts longer than a score is the job. A GDScript function, a scene edit through an MCP tool call and an agent loop that runs for an hour do not want the same thing from a model. The vendor sections below are dated to the page they were read from.

  Where these numbers stop

The 15 tasks are small, single-file and checked by running them. They say whether a model's Godot 4 code works. They do not say whether it designs a good level, picks a good art direction or keeps a 50-file project coherent.

Each game build is one run per model and one reviewer's verdict, so treat a single win as a data point, not a ranking. The times include the agent, so Claude Code and Codex are part of what they measure. And the dollar figures are estimates at public API prices for runs that went through subscriptions.

Claude Opus 5.5 is built for long agentic runs, at $4 and $20 per million tokens

Dated 3 October 2026, from Anthropic's model page. Released 22 September 2026. Model id claude-opus-5-5. Anthropic describes it as built for long-running agentic coding and knowledge work. Context window 1M tokens, max output 128K, adaptive thinking always on, default effort medium, knowledge cutoff June 2026. API price on that page: $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens.

For a long Godot session that is the relevant line: long-running agentic coding, and a 1M window. The limitation on the same page is that forced tool use returns an error, and thinking cannot be turned off. The page does not mention Godot, GDScript or MCP. Flockbay's runs are the Godot evidence: 15 of 15, and ahead of GPT-6.1 Sol in three of five game builds.

Claude Sonnet 5.5 has the same window at half the price of Opus

Dated 3 October 2026, from Anthropic's model page. Released 28 September 2026. Model id claude-sonnet-5-5. Anthropic calls it the best combination of speed and intelligence. Context window 1M tokens, max output 128K, adaptive thinking, default effort high, comparative latency fast, knowledge cutoff June 2026. API price on that page: $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.

Forced tool use returns an error on this model too. Setting temperature, top_p or top_k off the default returns a 400. The page does not mention Godot. In Flockbay's runs it passed 15 of 15 at the lowest median time, then lost the six-legged walker to GPT-6.1 Sol at about seven times Sol's cost.

GPT-5.5 has a million tokens on the API and 400K in Codex

Dated 3 October 2026, from OpenAI's API model page and the 23 April 2026 announcement. The API page calls GPT-5.5 a flagship model for complex professional work, with a 1,050,000-token context window, 128,000 max output tokens, and a knowledge cutoff of 1 December 2025. API price on that page: $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens. Prompts over 272K input tokens are priced higher for the whole session.

The announcement says GPT-5.5 in Codex has a 400K context window, on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu and Go. A ChatGPT sign-in runs in Flockbay on any plan, Free included, and Codex is how it builds. Neither page publishes a Godot score. The GPT model in Flockbay's runs is GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex, and OpenAI's page for it was not read for this edition.

Gemini 3.8 Flash publishes a million-token window and no Godot score

Dated 3 October 2026, from Google's Gemini API model page, which lists Gemini 3.8 Flash as stable. Google describes it as its most intelligent Flash model, for long-horizon software engineering and autonomous agents. Input token limit 1,048,576. Output token limit 65,536. Function calling, code execution and structured outputs are supported. Computer use is marked preview. Thinking supports low, medium and high, and the page says minimal returns an error. The page's latest-update line says September 2026. It does not mention Godot.

Gemini is not one of the sign-ins in Flockbay's chat, and it was not in Flockbay's runs. Gemini CLI connects over Flockbay's MCP server like any other agent. It belongs in this comparison because the search is for a model.

Qwen3-Coder is the open-weight pick, with the smallest window here

Dated from the Qwen team's post of 22 July 2025, which is the open-weight card this edition uses. Qwen3-Coder-480B-A35B-Instruct is a mixture-of-experts model, 480B parameters with 35B active. The post says it supports 256K tokens of context natively and 1M with extrapolation, and that it was trained for agentic coding and tool use. The same post compares it with Claude Sonnet 4, which is two generations behind the Claude models above. Treat that comparison as historical.

256K native context is the smallest window in this set. A long Godot agent loop that keeps tool results will fill it before it fills a 1M window. Running the weights yourself is the reason to pick it: the machine is yours, and the vendor page is not metering the turn. It was not in Flockbay's runs, and no Godot score is on the post.

The measured models run in Flockbay for free

Flockbay builds and play-tests a whole Godot game for free: free AI every day or your own Claude or ChatGPT, on the official Godot engine. On a Claude plan, Pro or Max, the model menu lists the models Claude Code offers your account. Signed in with ChatGPT, on any plan, Free included, it lists your account's models. Your own agent, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, connects over Flockbay's MCP server and brings its own model. With none of these, Demo, Flockbay's hosted model, is free each day. Claude Free does not run here, and plans for more hosted AI are optional. The setup is Claude or ChatGPT with Godot.

Four models on the same Godot 4 work, measured by Flockbay

Read from each product's own pages on 2026-10-06.

15 of 15

8 s

Claude Code

Took the physics truck and the doors from GPT-6.1 Sol, and came first of four on the modeled character. Lost the Blender character to Sol. Drew save and load.

$2.93 to $10.48 over five builds

GPT-6.1 Sol

10 s

Codex

Took the Blender character from Opus 5.5 and the six-legged walker from Sonnet 5.5. Lost the truck and the doors to Opus, and finished behind it on the modeled character. Drew save and load.

$0.63 to $1.55 over the same five builds; $0.86 for the walker

8 s

Claude Code

Lost the six-legged walker to GPT-6.1 Sol: its walker could walk into a spot it never walked out of. On the modeled character, no hands and a pickaxe through the floor every other step.

$6.05 for the walker's first pass; $0.64 for the character

Claude Haiku 4.5

11 of 15

14 of 15

14 s

Claude Code

In its one head-to-head, the modeled character, it made a figure of stacked blocks.

$0.45 for the character

  Questions

What is the best AI model for Godot?

On Flockbay's measurement of 6 October 2026, Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol each passed all 15 checked Godot 4 coding tasks on the official Godot 4.7.2, and Claude Haiku 4.5 passed 11. In game builds, Opus 5.5 finished ahead of GPT-6.1 Sol in three of five builds, and its runs cost 3 to 11.5 times as much at API prices. Opus for the hardest systems, Sol for everyday work.

Which AI is best at GDScript?

On short GDScript tasks, Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol tie at 15 of 15 on the first try, with median agent times of 8, 8 and 10 seconds. Haiku 4.5 passed 11 of 15. Its misses were a signal emitted twice, an untyped Array returned from a function typed Array[Vector2i], a Godot 3 AnimationPlayer call and a coroutine racing a signal against a timer.

Is Claude or ChatGPT better for Godot?

Neither wins everywhere. Claude Opus 5.5 beat GPT-6.1 Sol on a physics truck, on doors and on a character built with Flockbay's modeler. Sol won the same character built in Blender and beat Claude Sonnet 5.5 on a six-legged walker, and save and load was a draw. Against Opus, Sol was the cheaper side every time: Opus cost 3 to 11.5 times as much at API prices.

Can a cheap model write Godot 4 code?

Mostly, if it sees Godot's errors. Claude Haiku 4.5 passed 11 of 15 tasks on the first try and 14 after one fix with the test's output. Claude Haiku 5.5, not yet in the 15-task run, built a Celeste-style jump that met all six of its bars by the third pass, for about $0.86 at API prices.

  How often is this measured?

The 15 tasks ran on 6 October 2026, and the game builds went out between 5 and 10 October. The tasks run again when a model ships, each score keeps the day it was measured, and this URL stays the same.

  Which plan runs in Flockbay?

Demo, Flockbay's hosted model, free each day; it comes back the next day. Also Claude Pro or Max, any ChatGPT plan, Free included, your own agent over MCP, or your own API key. Claude Free does not run here. Flockbay's own plans, Hobby, Indie Developer and Studio, add more hosted AI.

Does a bigger context window win a long agent loop?

It wins the part of the loop that is "did the earlier tool result survive". Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Gemini 3.8 Flash publish about a million tokens. GPT-5.5 publishes 1,050,000 on the API and 400K in Codex. Qwen3-Coder publishes 256K native.

Use Claude or ChatGPT with Godot, free: Free AI every day, or your own Claude or ChatGPT, on the official Godot engine. Windows, macOS and Linux. https://flockbay.com/claude-or-chatgpt-for-godot/

The best Godot MCP server depends on what you want your agent to touch. Flockbay's is the pick when you want your agent to build and play-test a whole game for free: the open Godot editor, the running game with input events and viewport captures, and world tools for terrain, water, sky and weather that no other server here has, on the official Godot engine. godot-ai is the best free, open server for your own Godot 4.7 editor, GDAI MCP the polished one for $19 once, and Coding-Solo's godot-mcp the simplest start. Here is every server with real use, read from its own pages, with one verdict each.

Source: https://flockbay.com/blog/best-godot-mcp-server/ · Updated 2026-10-13

The best Godot MCP server, in one line each

Flockbay: the pick for a whole game. Free, with no sign-up, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Your agent gets the Godot editor, the running game to playtest, and world tools for terrain, water, sky, weather, the player controller and props.

godot-ai: the best free one. MIT licensed, runs in your own Godot 4.7 editor, takes screenshots and plays timed input events.

Coding-Solo's godot-mcp: the simplest start. Free, MIT, one npx command; it runs the game and reads the errors, with no pictures or input.

GDAI MCP: the polished paid plugin. $19 once, Godot 4.2 and later, with pictures, input and the debugger.

Godot MCP Pro: the most tools. $15 once, Godot 4.4 and later, over 160 tools by its own count.

satelliteoflove's godot-mcp: built for play-testing. Free, MIT, Godot 4.5 and later, and it can freeze and step game time.

Summer Engine's MCP: free and MIT, but it drives Summer's own engine app rather than your Godot editor.

Ziva: an agent inside the Godot editor that can also serve its tools to Claude Code, Codex and others, on plans from free to $200 a month.

Four abilities decide which Godot MCP server you need

Every Godot MCP server says it lets an agent control Godot. The useful question is which of four things it lets the agent do: edit the project, run the game and read its errors, see the game, and play it. A server that only edits leaves you as the agent's eyes and hands. One that does all four lets it check its own work before it tells you it is done.

Then three costs: money, whether you can read the source, and setup, which runs from one command to a plugin, a build step and a config file.

The table at the end has all of it, read from each project's own pages on 29 Sep 2026. GitHub stars and npm downloads stand in for real use here. They measure attention, not quality.

Coding-Solo's godot-mcp is where most people start

It has 5,869 GitHub stars, the most of any Godot MCP server checked for this post, and its npm package was downloaded 4,679 times in the week to 27 Sep. It is MIT licensed and installs with one command. It launches the editor, runs the project in debug mode, captures the output and errors, creates scenes and adds nodes.

What it does not do is look or play: there is no screenshot or input tool in its list. Its last npm release, 0.1.1, came out in February 2026. Verdict: the right first server, and the right one to keep if your agent only needs to run the game and read what went wrong.

claude mcp add godot -- npx @coding-solo/godot-mcp

godot-ai is the strongest free Godot MCP server

godot-ai, from the hi-godot project, is MIT licensed, has 2,673 stars and was updated on 29 Sep. It is a plugin for your own Godot 4.7 or later editor with a small Python server beside it, and its dock writes the config for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others.

It covers 46 tools and over 120 operations: scenes, nodes, scripts, signals, materials, animation, tests, game and editor logs, pictures of the editor and of the running game, and timed key, mouse and gamepad sequences into the game. Verdict: if you want it free and open, in the editor you already have, start here.

GDAI MCP is the polished paid plugin

It costs $19 once, with updates, for Godot 4.2 and later on Windows, macOS and Linux, and it is closed source. It edits scenes, scripts and node properties, runs the game, reads the debugger, takes screenshots of the editor and the running game, and simulates key and input-action events. Setup is a plugin in your project and a line in your client's config.

Verdict: the one to buy if you want it to just work, including on an older 4.x project, and closed source does not bother you.

Godot MCP Pro has the most tools, which cuts both ways

It costs $15 once. Its store page counts 163 tools and its website 187, from animation trees and particles to navigation, shaders and profiling, plus game screenshots, key and mouse simulation, and errors with stack traces. It needs Godot 4.4 or later. Its editor plugin's source is on GitHub; the server that talks to your agent is sold closed. Setup means copying the plugin, building the server with npm and adding it to your client's config.

Verdict: the widest reach. The breadth is also the risk, because models choose worse from long tool lists and spend context reading them. Its editor panel lets you switch tools off one by one, and you should.

  satelliteoflove's godot-mcp is built for play-testing

Free, MIT licensed, 171 stars, Godot 4.5 or later. Its 21 tools lean on one idea, letting the agent verify its own work. It can freeze the game clock and step exact slices of game time with input riding inside them, read live game state as JSON, take pictures, and run GDScript inside the running game to set up a test. It deliberately leaves out what an agent can already do by editing files.

Verdict: the most careful play-testing design of the free servers.

Three more Godot MCP servers with real use

tugcantopaloglu's godot-mcp is a fork of Coding-Solo's that grows it to 157 tools, including game pictures, held keys, mouse drags, gamepad and touch input, and C# projects. Free, MIT, 468 stars, Godot 4.4 or later; you clone and build it, and its runtime tools need an autoload in your game.

tomyud1's godot-mcp is free, MIT and has 434 stars. It installs from Godot's own Asset Library and has its own undo tool, because its changes do not go through the editor's Ctrl+Z.

GoPeak is free, MIT and has 261 stars: an edit, run, inspect and fix loop that also uses Godot's language server and debugger, with pictures and input through a runtime add-on.

Two early Godot MCP servers have gone quiet

ee0pdt's Godot-MCP has 616 stars and no push since March 2025, and bradypp's godot-mcp none since May 2025. Both were early, and both are still linked from lists.

Check the last commit before you install any server. Godot moves fast, and a server written against an older 4.x can trip over the version you run.

Summer Engine's MCP drives Summer, not your editor

Summer Engine's server is free and MIT licensed, and one command sets it up for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and nine other clients. Its tools reach deep: scenes, scripts, play and debug, runtime input, probes and screenshots, and cloud generation of images, 3D models, audio and video on credits.

The catch is what it drives: Summer's own desktop engine, which Summer describes as compatible with Godot 4, not the Godot editor you already have. Its paid plans are $20, $60 and $200 a month, and its MCP skills and hooks come with the $60 plan and up. Verdict: strong if you are moving to Summer, and not a server for your own Godot.

Ziva serves its Godot tools over MCP too

Ziva is an agent inside the Godot editor, 4.2 and up, on a proprietary licence. It can also run as a local MCP server, so Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, Cline and others can inspect the scene tree, edit nodes, scenes, scripts and resources, read Godot's errors, and run and stop the game.

Its MCP page does not say which plan that needs, and it lists no pictures or input. Plans run from a free Hobby plan with $3 of AI use a month to Basic, Pro and Ultra at $20, $50 and $200 a month. Verdict: worth it if you want Ziva's own agent in the editor as well.

Flockbay's slot: your agent and an AI game maker on the same game

Flockbay is a free AI game maker built on Godot, and its desktop app serves one MCP server, flockbay-stage, free, with no sign-up: the app makes its own account on first launch. Your agent gets the open Godot editor with one Ctrl+Z per change; the running game, to playtest with timed input events, viewport captures and the live scene tree; and world tools no other server here has, for terrain, water, sky, weather, the player controller and props. Its work lands in its own chat, beside Flockbay's own AI working on the same game.

The limits are real. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, needs the app open with your game and an internet connection, works on the Godot 4.7.2 inside the app rather than your own install, and is closed source. Setup is one line the app writes for you, and the Godot MCP guide has it for every agent.

How to pick a Godot MCP server

You want your agent to build and play-test a whole game for free, with world tools and a builder in the editor, on Windows, macOS or Linux: Flockbay.

You want it free, open and in your own editor: godot-ai. You want the least to install: Coding-Solo's godot-mcp. You want to pay once and be done: GDAI MCP, or Godot MCP Pro for more tools. You want an agent that tests with exact timing: satelliteoflove's godot-mcp. You already build in Summer or Ziva: use theirs.

If your agent flounders with any of them, try fewer, higher-level tools before trying more.

A Godot MCP server acts on your machine

An MCP server lets an agent act on your computer. Install servers from sources you trust, read what their tools can do, prefer ones that keep to the project folder, and commit before each session.

Flockbay's connection stays on until you press Turn off, and it reaches only the game open in the app. Whatever server you use, remove access you no longer use.

  Questions

What is the best Godot MCP server?

It depends on what you want the agent to touch. Flockbay's, if you want your agent to build and play-test a whole game for free, with world tools, on Windows, macOS or Linux. godot-ai if you want it free and open in your own editor, GDAI MCP if you want to pay $19 once, and Coding-Solo's godot-mcp for the simplest start.

Is there a free Godot MCP server?

Yes, several. Flockbay's is free with no sign-up, but closed source. godot-ai, Coding-Solo's godot-mcp, satelliteoflove's godot-mcp and GoPeak are free and MIT licensed.

Which Godot MCP servers can take screenshots and play the game?

godot-ai, GDAI MCP, Godot MCP Pro, satelliteoflove's godot-mcp, tugcantopaloglu's fork, GoPeak and Flockbay. Coding-Solo's godot-mcp runs the game and reads its errors but has no screenshot or input tool.

Do Godot MCP servers work with Claude Code, Codex and Cursor?

Yes. They are MCP servers and those three are MCP clients, and most of the servers here name Claude Code and Cursor in their setup. Setup ranges from one command to a plugin plus a config file.

Does the Godot project make its own MCP server?

No. The release notes for Godot 4.7 list no AI features and no MCP server. Every server here is made by someone other than the Godot project.

Set up Godot MCP with Flockbay: Free, with no sign-up, on Windows, macOS and Linux: one line from the app, for any MCP client. https://flockbay.com/godot-ai-mcp/

The best AI tools for Godot in 2026, by what you want the AI to do: Flockbay if you want a whole Godot game built and play-tested for free, on free AI every day or your own Claude or ChatGPT, on the official Godot engine; Claude Code or Codex with a Godot MCP server such as the free Godot AI if you want an agent you already pay for in your own editor; Ziva if you want a paid agent docked inside the editor; Summer Engine if you want a hosted-AI engine of its own; and Tripo, Meshy or PixelLab for the art. Below is every tool worth knowing, read on its own site, with a price and a one-line verdict.

Source: https://flockbay.com/blog/best-ai-tools-for-godot/ · Updated 2026-10-13

The best AI tools for Godot all fix the same problem

Ask a chatbot for a Godot jump script and there is a fair chance you get Godot 3: a KinematicBody2D, move_and_slide called with arguments, export var without the @. Godot 4 rejects all three. The model is not careless. It learned from years of tutorials written for an engine that has since changed, and it cannot see which version you are running.

That one failure is the whole field in miniature. Every tool on this page answers the same gap: a model that cannot see your project, your Godot version, the scene tree or the running game. They differ in how much of that gap they close, and in who ends up writing the code.

There are five kinds. Coding agents write code in your project folder. MCP servers give an agent a line into the Godot editor. Editor plugins put the AI inside the editor itself. AI game engines built on Godot put the whole game around the AI. Asset generators make the art. Every price, version and star count below was read on the tool’s own site or repository on 29 September 2026, and the table at the end names the page each row came from.

Coding agents write the most Godot code and see the least

Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Gemini CLI all treat a Godot project the same way: as a folder of text files. They are the strongest models you can point at GDScript and the least Godot-specific. On their own they cannot open a scene, press Play or read the Output panel, so they work from what you paste.

Claude Code comes with Claude’s paid plans, from Pro at $20 a month, and not with the free plan. Verdict: the natural pick if you already pay for Claude.

The Codex pricing page at OpenAI lists Codex on every ChatGPT plan as of 5 Oct 2026: Free for quick coding tasks, Go for lightweight ones, and more usage from Plus at $20 a month. Its command-line agent is open source under Apache 2.0. Verdict: the natural pick if you already use ChatGPT.

Cursor is a code editor with an agent built in. Hobby is free with limited agent requests, and the paid individual plan starts at $20 a month. Verdict: the pick if you want to read every change as a diff in an editor beside Godot.

GitHub Copilot has a free tier with 2,000 completions a month, and Pro at $10 a month. Verdict: the cheapest paid way in, strongest at finishing the line you are typing.

Gemini CLI gives a personal Google account 60 requests a minute and 1,000 a day, free, and is open source under Apache 2.0. Verdict: the most generous free tier of the five.

Whichever you use, name your Godot version in the first message and paste errors in full. The best LLM for Godot answers by the job: GDScript, scene editing through MCP, or a long agent loop.

Godot MCP servers give an agent eyes on the editor

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is how an agent calls tools that someone else wrote. A Godot MCP server runs beside the editor and hands your agent tools such as open this scene, add this node, run the game, read the errors, take a screenshot. The agent stays the same; what changes is what it can see and do.

Godot AI, from hi-godot, is free and MIT-licensed, with 46 tools covering more than 120 operations: scenes, nodes, scripts, signals, UI, materials, animation, particles and cameras. Its current version needs Godot 4.7 or later, and uv to run its Python server. It had 2,673 stars and was still being updated in the last week of September. Verdict: the free bridge to try first if you are on Godot 4.7.

GDAI MCP is a $19 one-time purchase for Godot 4.2 and up. It creates scenes, nodes and scripts, reads the debugger’s errors, takes screenshots and injects input events in the running game. Verdict: the pick for a project still on an older Godot 4.

Godot MCP Pro is a $15 one-time purchase for Godot 4.4 and up, and lists 187 tools in 26 categories. Its editor plugin is open source; the server that talks to your agent is the paid part. Verdict: the most tools for the money.

Coding-Solo’s godot-mcp is the famous one: free, MIT, and 5,869 stars. It launches the editor, runs the project and captures debug output. Its last commit, on 16 April 2026, closed a hole that let a request instantiate arbitrary GDScript, and an open issue asks whether the project is still active. Verdict: the old default, but five months without a commit is a reason to prefer one that is maintained.

The setup for each, and what each lets an agent touch, is in the best Godot MCP server.

Godot AI plugins put the agent inside the editor

A plugin skips the second program. The chat sits in a dock in Godot, next to the scene you have open, so it knows what you are looking at without being told.

Ziva is a closed-source agent that lives in the Godot editor, for Godot 4.2 and later on Windows, macOS and Linux. It writes GDScript, builds scenes, edits shaders, debugs errors and generates sprites. Hobby is free with $3 of AI use a month; Basic is $20, Pro $50 and Ultra $200 a month, and any plan can run on your own Claude Code or Codex subscription instead. Verdict: the most complete agent inside the editor.

AI Assistant Hub, from FlamxGames, is free and MIT-licensed. It embeds assistants in Godot that read and write code, create scenes and add nodes, and it talks to Ollama, llama.cpp, Gemini, xAI and others. Verdict: the pick for local or cheap models.

Godot AI Suite costs $5 or more on itch.io. It packs your whole project into one large prompt for any chat model and applies the reply with a side-by-side diff. Verdict: cheap, but a copy-and-paste workflow that has not been updated since October 2025.

AI game engines built on Godot build the whole game around the AI

The last kind stops being a tool you add to Godot and becomes the place you make the game. The AI is not a guest in the editor: the app is built around it, with its own tools for the world and its own way of paying for the model.

Flockbay is a free AI game maker built on Godot: it builds and play-tests a whole Godot game for free, on free AI every day or your own Claude or ChatGPT. The result is a real Godot 4 project you can open, read and change, on the official Godot release, not a fork, and the builder lives inside the Godot editor. Flockbay’s own AI runs on the hosted model, called Demo, free every day, or on your Claude or ChatGPT plan in the app; your own agent over MCP (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) or your own API key works too, also free.

In practice: the engine is the official Godot 4.7.2, bundled. The builder is a set of buttons around the editor’s own 3D and 2D view that sculpt and paint terrain, plant foliage, place props and set the water, sky and weather, with Godot’s own undo. Flockbay playtests your game: it runs the game, reads stdout and errors, captures viewports, injects input events and reads the live scene tree. Your own agent gets the same tools over one MCP server, free.

Pictures and sound run on the free AI. A 3D model uses your own Tripo key. Plans for more hosted AI are optional. The limits: Windows, Apple Silicon Macs and Linux, with no Intel Mac build; building needs an internet connection; and the app is closed source. Verdict: the pick for a whole game built and play-tested on stock Godot for free, by Flockbay’s AI or your own agent, on Windows, macOS or Linux.

Summer Engine is a desktop app for Windows and Apple-silicon Macs, with no Linux installer. Its docs give its upstream technical base as Godot 4.7.2, and its source page calls the app free proprietary software whose source is not public; its command-line tool, MCP server and skills are MIT. Hosted AI comes with Pro at $20, Pro+ at $60 and Ultra at $200 a month, and connecting your own agent over MCP is free. A project can go back to official Godot, but its docs say the Summer-only AI surfaces will not be there. Verdict: the most complete hosted-AI engine in the Godot family, if you are happy to work in its editor. The side-by-side is Flockbay vs Summer Engine.

Orca Engine, from Simplifine, is a Godot-based editor with an AI agent built in, run on your own API keys. Godot’s code in it stays MIT, but Simplifine’s additions are non-commercial source-available, and a commercial game needs a separate licence from them. Verdict: worth reading and trying, awkward to ship with.

AI asset generators for Godot make the art, not the game

None of the tools above draws well on its own. The art comes from generators, and what matters for Godot is the file you get back and the licence on it.

Tripo makes 3D models and exports GLB, which Godot imports directly, along with FBX, OBJ, USD, STL and 3MF. The free plan gives 200 credits a month, about 13 models, which are public and non-commercial; Pro is $20 a month billed yearly, for 3,000 credits and commercial use. Verdict: the 3D generator to try first, on a paid plan if you mean to sell the game.

Meshy also makes 3D models with GLB export. Its free plan is 100 credits a month under CC BY 4.0, so you credit Meshy; Pro is $20 a month for 1,000 credits. Verdict: a close alternative to Tripo, so compare both on your own prompt.

PixelLab makes pixel art: characters turned to four or eight directions, animations, sprites and tilesets. The trial is 40 fast generations, paid plans start at $12 a month, and every tier allows commercial use. It runs its own MCP server, so a coding agent can ask it for a character mid-task. Verdict: the pick for a 2D pixel game.

Pictures and sound run on the free AI. A 3D model uses your own Tripo key. On your own keys, pictures run on a key you add, sound on ElevenLabs, and 3D models on Tripo.

How to pick an AI tool for Godot

Start with who should write the code. If it is you, with help, take a coding agent. If you want the AI to do most of it while you review, add a bridge or a plugin. If you want to direct the game and judge it by playing, look at an engine built around the AI.

Then check your Godot version against the tool. Godot AI’s current release needs 4.7, Godot MCP Pro 4.4, GDAI MCP and Ziva 4.2. A tool that does not support your version is not a candidate, however good its demo is.

Then ask what it can see: only files, the editor, or the running game. The running game is what lets an agent catch its own mistakes, because most bugs in a game show up when you play it rather than when you read it.

Last, price it by how you already pay. A one-time $15 or $19 bridge on top of a Claude or ChatGPT plan you have anyway costs less than a second subscription. A hosted plan earns its price when you would rather not manage models at all. Flockbay costs nothing either way: its hosted model is free every day, and your own Claude, ChatGPT or agent costs nothing extra.

How to try an AI tool on a Godot project without losing work

Commit your project to version control, or copy it, before installing anything. Many of these tools write project settings or add folders, and some change scenes you did not ask about.

Give each tool the same small task, such as adding a double jump, and compare the result and the files it touched. The tool that changes least to get there is usually the one to keep.

These tools change every month. The prices and versions here are as of 29 September 2026, so check the tool’s own page before you pay.

Where Flockbay is the wrong AI tool for Godot

If you are on an Intel Mac, Ziva inside Godot or any coding agent with Godot AI runs there, and Flockbay does not: its Mac build is for Apple Silicon.

If you want your own Godot install, your own editor layout and nothing else, a bridge is the lighter choice: Godot AI for free on Godot 4.7, or GDAI MCP or Godot MCP Pro for a one-time price.

If you want to build offline or on a local model, AI Assistant Hub with Ollama is the pick. Flockbay needs a connection to build.

If you only need art, go straight to Tripo, Meshy or PixelLab.

  Questions

What is the best AI for Godot?

It depends on what you want the AI to do. For a whole game built and play-tested for free on the official Godot engine, Flockbay, on free AI every day or your own Claude or ChatGPT. For an agent you already pay for in your own editor, Claude Code or Codex with a Godot MCP server; Godot AI is the free one to try first on Godot 4.7. For a paid agent inside the editor, Ziva. For a hosted-AI engine of its own, Summer Engine.

Is there a free AI tool for Godot?

Yes. Flockbay is free with AI included: its hosted model is free every day, and your own Claude, ChatGPT, agent or API key costs nothing extra. Gemini CLI has a free daily allowance, Godot AI and AI Assistant Hub are free and MIT-licensed, and Ziva has a free Hobby plan that runs on your own Claude Code or Codex subscription.

Can ChatGPT or Claude write GDScript for Godot 4?

Yes, if you tell it you are on Godot 4 and paste errors in full. Watch for Godot 3 habits: KinematicBody instead of CharacterBody, export var instead of @export, yield instead of await.

What is a Godot MCP server?

A small program that runs beside the Godot editor and gives an AI agent tools to open scenes, add nodes, run the game and read errors, over the Model Context Protocol. Godot AI, GDAI MCP, Godot MCP Pro and godot-mcp are the main ones.

Which Godot MCP server should I use?

Flockbay’s, free, if you want your agent to build and play-test a whole game with world tools on the official Godot. Godot AI if you are on Godot 4.7 and want it free in your own editor. GDAI MCP if your project is on an older Godot 4. Godot MCP Pro if you want the most tools for a one-time $15.

Can I use Claude Code or Codex with Flockbay?

Yes, free. In Flockbay, open Connectors, set up Connect your agent (MCP), press Turn on and paste the line it gives you. Your agent gets the world tools, the Godot editor and the running game.

Which AI makes 3D models for Godot?

Tripo and Meshy both export GLB, which Godot imports directly. Check the licence first: Tripo’s free models are non-commercial, and Meshy’s free models need a credit.

Connect your own agent to Flockbay: Flockbay is a free AI game maker built on Godot. Point Claude Code, Codex or Cursor at it over MCP, and it can build, play and look at your game. https://flockbay.com/godot-ai-mcp/

Related: Claude or ChatGPT with Godot, The best Godot MCP server, Using Claude with Godot, Godot over MCP

Godot MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that lets an AI agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor work inside a Godot game: edit its scenes and scripts, run it, read its errors, look at it and play it. Flockbay is one. Open Connectors in the Flockbay app, press Turn on for Connect your agent (MCP), and paste the line it writes into your agent once. Connecting is free. Flockbay is free, AI included: free hosted AI every day, or your own Claude, ChatGPT, agent or API key. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, on the official Godot engine.

Source: https://flockbay.com/godot-ai-mcp/ · Updated 2026-10-01

As of 29 Sep 2026, the Flockbay app serves one MCP server, flockbay-stage, on Windows, macOS and Linux. Your agent gets the open Godot editor with one Ctrl+Z per change, the running game to play, picture and read, and Flockbay's world tools for terrain, water, sky, weather, the player and placed objects. It needs the app open with your game, the free guest account the app makes for itself, and an internet connection. Your agent's own plan pays for its model.

Godot MCP lets the agent find out for itself

Ask Claude Code to fix a jump that feels floaty and, on its own, it does half the job. It opens the player script, lowers the gravity, and hands the rest to you: you press Play, you jump, you describe what went wrong, you paste the error back. Every round trip goes through your hands.

A Godot MCP server removes the round trip. The agent presses Play itself, holds the jump action for a third of a second, captures the viewport at the top of the arc, reads Godot's stdout and errors, and changes the script again before you have looked at anything.

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the plumbing. It is an open standard: a server offers tools, and a client such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor discovers them and calls them. The protocol is the easy half. What matters is which tools a server hands over, and whether the agent can check its own work with them. The roundup of Godot MCP servers compares a dozen of them; this page is the setup and the reference for Flockbay's.

Connecting Flockbay to your agent is one paste

Flockbay is a free AI game maker built on Godot: a desktop app with the official Godot 4.7.2 engine inside, not a fork. Its MCP server lives in the app, so there is nothing to install from npm and no plugin to copy into your project. On Windows, macOS or Linux, the steps are these.

Open the Flockbay app. On first launch it makes itself a free guest account, with no sign-in, and that account is all the connection needs. Then open your game, or press Open Godot project… for one you already have; the Godot editor opens with it.

Open Connectors from the Flockbay menu, press Set up on the Connect your agent (MCP) row, and press Turn on.

Pick your agent and press Copy. For Claude Code and Codex it is a command for a terminal. For the others it is a block for the config file the dialog names, and Cursor and LM Studio also get a button that adds it for you.

The line carries three paths that belong to your machine: the Node runtime that ships inside Flockbay, the script that serves the tools, and a small file that tells the server which running app to reach. That is why the app writes it and this page does not. The blocks below show the shape, with those three paths as placeholders. The paths stay the same from one sitting to the next, so you paste once.

The app also runs the line itself. If it cannot start on your machine, the dialog says so in red above it, in the server's own words, instead of letting it fail later inside your agent. For Claude Code and Cursor the same dialog can install Flockbay's skills and hooks, and for Codex and Goose its skills: the instructions that teach the agent how to build with these tools.

  Godot MCP in Claude Code

Paste the line in any terminal. It registers the server as flockbay-stage with --scope user, so it is there whichever folder you start Claude Code in. Claude Code's default scope is the current folder only, which is how a connection quietly goes missing when you paste in one folder and work in another.

Check it with claude mcp list in a terminal, or type /mcp inside a session. Then ask Claude Code whether Flockbay is connected: the first tool it sees answers with what to do next. More on the workflow: making games from Claude Code.

claude mcp add --scope user flockbay-stage -e "FLOCKBAY_LOCAL_STAGE_CAPABILITY_AUTHORITY_DESCRIPTOR=<descriptor>" -- "<node>" "<coordinator>" --external-stage-mcp

  Godot MCP in Codex

Paste the line in a terminal. Codex stores it in its config.toml, by default ~/.codex/config.toml, so every session after that sees it.

Check it with codex mcp list, or type /mcp in the Codex terminal. More on the workflow: making games in Codex.

codex mcp add flockbay-stage --env "FLOCKBAY_LOCAL_STAGE_CAPABILITY_AUTHORITY_DESCRIPTOR=<descriptor>" -- "<node>" "<coordinator>" --external-stage-mcp

Godot MCP in Cursor, Gemini CLI, Cline, Devin Desktop and LM Studio

These five read the same JSON shape: an mcpServers entry with a command, its arguments and one environment variable.

Cursor: add it to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (on Windows, %USERPROFILE%.cursor\mcp.json), or press Add to Cursor in Flockbay's dialog. Gemini CLI: ~/.gemini/settings.json. Cline: MCP Servers, then Configure, then Configure MCP Servers, and add it to that file. Devin Desktop is Windsurf renamed and keeps Windsurf's file, %USERPROFILE%.codeium\windsurf\mcp_config.json. LM Studio: Program, then Install, then Edit mcp.json, or press Add to LM Studio.

If Cursor is your editor already, Cursor for Godot covers how it fits beside the Godot editor.

{
  "mcpServers": {

      "args": [

}

Godot MCP in OpenCode and Kilo Code

These two read an mcp key with the command as one array. OpenCode: opencode.json in your game's folder, or ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json. Kilo Code: ~/.config/kilo/kilo.jsonc, or kilo.jsonc in your game's folder.

{
  "mcp": {
    "flockbay-stage": {
      "type": "local",
      "command": [
        "<node>",
        "<coordinator>",
        "--external-stage-mcp"
      ],
      "environment": {
        "FLOCKBAY_LOCAL_STAGE_CAPABILITY_AUTHORITY_DESCRIPTOR": "<descriptor>"
      },
      "enabled": true
    }
  }
}

Godot MCP in Goose, and with a local model

Goose reads YAML under extensions, in ~/.config/goose/config.yaml.

Ollama runs a model, not an agent, so it has no config of its own here. Run your Ollama model inside Goose, OpenCode or Cline and use that agent's block. The tools are the same; how well a small model uses them is up to the model.

extensions:
  flockbay-stage:
    name: flockbay-stage
    type: stdio
    cmd: '<node>'
    args:
      - '<coordinator>'
      - '--external-stage-mcp'
    envs:
      FLOCKBAY_LOCAL_STAGE_CAPABILITY_AUTHORITY_DESCRIPTOR: '<descriptor>'
    enabled: true
    timeout: 300

Godot MCP through Flockbay reaches the editor, the game and the world

Through the open Godot editor, your agent can open and create scenes; add, delete, rename, move and duplicate nodes; read and set their properties; write scripts and attach them; create and change resources such as materials and collision shapes; and connect signals. Every change is one step in Godot's own undo history, named for what it did, such as "Flockbay: Add Player", and the scene is saved after it. Press Ctrl+Z and it is gone, like a change of your own.

It can read the project's settings, files, autoloads and input actions, and change settings and input actions. Those two are written by the app rather than the editor, so Ctrl+Z does not take them back; your agent sets the old value instead.

It can run the game in the Game screen and read its stdout, with every error and warning's file, line and call stack, or do a headless run for a few seconds of game time. When a script fails to parse, it gets Godot's own GDScript parse error and the line without running anything.

It can capture the running game's viewport as the player sees it, even while the Game screen is hidden, and the editor's 3D or 2D viewport. It can inject timed input events into the game: keys, mouse clicks and motion, InputMap actions and typed text, ending on a viewport capture. And it can read the running game's live scene tree, with positions, sizes, visibility and velocity, and change a node to try something out; that change lasts until the game stops and saves nothing.

On top of Godot, it gets Flockbay's world tools, the part other Godot MCP servers do not have: terrain, from a real place or an invented island in a 3D world, or laid as tiles in a 2D one; an ocean the terrain cuts into; the sky and lighting; rain or snow over time; the player controller, its movement and camera follow; and props, placed as scene instances at exact positions. That is six in a 3D world and four in a 2D one, which has no water or weather.

It can also search Flockbay's library of ready-made models, textures and sounds and bring one into the game, and generate a 3D model, a picture or a sound on your own Tripo or ElevenLabs key.

Godot MCP through Flockbay playtests the game, and where that stops

Playtesting here means the agent loop closes on the running game, not on the code. It validates every GDScript file without running it, starts a Play or a headless run, injects a timed sequence of input events (keys, mouse, InputMap actions, up to 200 steps), captures the game viewport, and reads the live scene tree, stdout and the debugger's errors with file, line and stack. Then it changes the code and plays again. Flockbay's own AI runs that check, play, read, fix loop by itself; your own agent gets the same tool calls over MCP, free.

What it does not do: play a whole game through to a goal, return a pass or fail verdict, keep a regression suite, record video, file bug reports, run parallel instances, or judge balance and feel. Human playtesters still decide whether the game is fun.

Three rules keep your agent from trampling your work

Flockbay never starts the game under you. If you have used the world tools, the buttons around the editor's 3D and 2D view, since your agent last pressed Play, the game does not start: the chat offers you Play instead, and your agent is told why.

Your hands win. Press a key, click or press a gamepad button while your agent is playing input, and its input stops at once, everything it held is let go, and it is told you took over. A paused game gets no input from it at all, and your real mouse and keyboard are never moved.

Some files are the app's. Your agent cannot write project.godot, the files Flockbay generates for the world, or the add-ons it installs, and when it tries it is told which tool to use instead. Its work lands in its own chat in Flockbay, named "Your agent", so it never mixes with a conversation you had with Flockbay's own AI.

What Godot MCP through Flockbay cannot do

It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and the Mac build is for Apple Silicon only.

The app has to be open with your game. The editing tools need the Godot editor open on it, which Flockbay opens with the game, and the tools that look into the game need it running. Your agent can connect before the app is open: it is told to open Flockbay, and it gets the tools as soon as the app is ready, without a restart.

It needs a free Flockbay account and an internet connection, and Flockbay is closed source. If you want a server you can read line by line, the open-source ones in the table below are the honest choice.

It works on Godot 4.7.2, the engine inside the app, not on a Godot you installed yourself. Games made in Flockbay get everything. An existing Godot 4 project opened in Flockbay with Open Godot project… plays, and your agent can edit and run it. The world tools, as buttons in the editor or as your agent's tool calls, work on a Flockbay world, and your agent is told to ask before its first world tool makes the project one.

Godot MCP earns its keep on tasks with a check in them

Give the agent something it can verify. "Run the game, find the first error, fix it, and run it again until the log is clean." "Hold D for two seconds, then capture the viewport: does the player reach the ledge?" "List every node under the player in the running game with its velocity, then tell me why it slides after I let go."

Small and checkable beats big and hopeful. An agent that can play the game will happily confirm that the game runs. Whether it is fun is still your call, and no server changes that.

Commit to version control before a long session. Every editor change is one Ctrl+Z, but a scene or resource file the agent creates stays on disk when its step is undone.

  Troubleshooting Godot MCP

Your agent sees one tool, and it says Flockbay is not serving. Open the Flockbay app with your game and turn on Connect your agent (MCP) in Connectors. The rest of the tools appear by themselves; you do not restart the agent.

Claude Code does not list flockbay-stage. Run claude mcp list. If it is missing, copy the line from Flockbay again and paste it; the line registers it for your user, not for one folder.

The dialog shows a red sentence saying the connection could not start on this machine. The app ran the line itself and it failed. That sentence is the cause in the server's own words, so keep it for a bug report.

The agent is told no Godot editor is open on this game. Open the game in Flockbay. Until then your agent can still edit the files directly and do a headless run to see its errors.

The agent is told the game is not running. It starts it with Play; the tools that look at the game need a run.

Play is refused because you were building. You used the world tools in the editor since your agent last pressed Play. Press Play in the chat when you are ready.

A write is refused as owned by Flockbay. The agent reached for a file the app keeps, such as project.godot. The refusal names the tool to use instead: the settings tools for project settings, the world tools for the world.

Turning it on asks you to sign in. A guest account connects without one, so this means the app has no account on this computer: a session expired, or the guest account could not be made. Sign in and turn it on again.

When another Godot MCP server is the better pick

You want it free and open, in the Godot you already have: godot-ai. It is MIT licensed, runs in your own Godot 4.7 editor, and it takes pictures and plays timed input, which the older godot-mcp does not.

You want the smallest thing that runs your game and reads its errors: Coding-Solo's godot-mcp. One npx command, MIT licensed, 5,869 GitHub stars on 29 Sep 2026, and a short tool list an agent will not get lost in. Its last npm release, 0.1.1, came out in February 2026.

You want a paid plugin with a polished setup on Godot 4.2 or later, on Windows, macOS or Linux: GDAI MCP, at $19 once.

You want the longest tool list, from animation trees and particles to shaders and navigation: Godot MCP Pro, at $15 once, on Godot 4.4 or later. That breadth is also its risk, because models choose worse from long tool lists; its editor panel lets you switch tools off one by one.

Flockbay is the pick when you want your agent and Flockbay's own AI working on the same game, with world tools for terrain, water, sky and weather, the same tools as buttons in the editor for what you would rather drag than describe, and generation on your own keys. It is also the only one here that needs its own app, on Windows, macOS or Linux, and an account, and is closed source.

  Questions

  What is Godot MCP?

A Model Context Protocol server for Godot. It turns Godot actions, such as editing a scene, running the game or taking a picture of it, into tools an AI agent like Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can call, so the agent can check its own work instead of asking you what happened.

Is there an official Godot MCP server?

No. The release notes for Godot 4.7 list no AI features and no MCP server. Every Godot MCP server, Flockbay's included, is made by someone other than the Godot project.

Is Flockbay's Godot MCP server free?

Yes. Connecting your own agent is free with a free Flockbay account. Your agent's model is paid for wherever you already pay for it, such as your Claude or ChatGPT plan; Flockbay charges nothing for the connection.

Which agents does it work with?

The app writes the setup for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Cline, Kilo Code, OpenCode, Goose, Devin Desktop and LM Studio, and for a local Ollama model through one of those. Any MCP client that can start a local server should work.

Does it work on Mac or Linux?

Linux, yes: Flockbay is an x86_64 AppImage for Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 39 or newer, and it serves the same MCP server. So does the Mac build, for Apple Silicon.

  Do I need Godot installed?

No. Flockbay bundles the official Godot 4.7.2, and your game is a normal Godot 4 project in a folder you can also open in Godot yourself.

Can I undo what my agent did?

Yes, in the editor. Each change is one step in Godot's undo history, so Ctrl+Z takes it back. Project settings and input actions are the exception: the app writes those, and the agent restores the old value instead.

Can my agent see my screen or move my mouse?

No. It takes pictures of the game and of the editor's view, not of your desktop, and the input it plays goes into the game only. Your real mouse and keyboard are not touched.

Can I use it on a Godot project I already have?

Yes. Open it in Flockbay with Open Godot project…: Flockbay asks before it adds anything, it plays, and your agent can edit and run it through the editor. The world tools work on a Flockbay world, and your agent asks before its first world tool makes the project one. Commit it to version control first; what Flockbay adds is recorded in the project, and export leaves its add-on out of the game you ship.

Is Flockbay's MCP server open source?
