Introducing 8-bitHero Labs: Building Neurodivergent-Optimized AI

I'm autistic and ADHD. I'm also a developer building AI.
For the longest time, I thought that meant choosing one identity. Either I was a "neurodivergent person trying to code" or a "developer who happens to be neurodivergent."
Then I realized: my neurodivergence isn't a limitation to overcome in tech. It's the insight I need to build something better.
That's why I'm launching 8-bitHero Labs.

The Problem
Current LLMs are trained on massive datasets of human language—which means they're trained on how neurotypical people communicate and think.
But here's the thing: autistic and ADHD brains are wired differently. We process information differently. We have different strengths:

Pattern recognition (especially obscure connections)

Hyperfocus (going deep on complex problems)

Lateral thinking (unconventional problem-solving)

Detail orientation (catching what others miss)

Systems thinking (understanding how pieces fit together)

Yet when we use AI, it's optimized for neurotypical cognition. It doesn't understand our thinking style. It doesn't support our strengths.

The Vision
What if we built an AI that did?
An AI reasoning model specifically designed for neurodivergent minds. Not a generic chatbot. A cognitive assistant that:

Understands pattern-based thinking

Supports executive function challenges

Helps with emotional communication and processing

Works as a daily companion for people with disabilities

Leverages the unique strengths of neurodivergent cognition

Why Now?

The tech exists. Open-source LLMs (Ollama, Llama 2, Mistral) make this possible without needing billions in funding.

The need is urgent. 1 in 5 adults has ADHD. 1-2% are autistic. We're building tools that exclude us, then act surprised when we struggle.

There's no one else doing this. The accessibility AI space is wide open. And we have something nobody else has: firsthand knowledge of how neurodivergent minds work.

We're ready. I've got the technical skills, the vision, and the lived experience. What I need is collaborators.

What We're Building
Phase 1 (Now): Working prototype demonstrating neurodivergent-optimized reasoning

Pattern recognition engine

Multi-pathway reasoning (reflecting how we problem-solve)

Basic API for testing

Phase 2 (Q2): Alpha release for early users

100+ users giving feedback

Integration with daily-life tools

Communication assistance features

Phase 3 (Q3): Public beta

Community contributions

Enterprise pilots

Accessibility certifications

Phase 4 (Q4+): Scale & sustainability

Production infrastructure

Paid + free tiers

Become the standard for neurodivergent AI

The Name
8-bit because that's when I fell in love with games and programming. Retro, creative, unapologetically DIY.
Hero because that's what I want to be—not for the glory, but because neurodivergent people deserve tools built by people who understand them.

We're Looking For

Developers (especially neurodivergent builders): Help with architecture, LLM training, API development

Researchers: Neuroscience, cognitive science, accessibility research

Designers: Making this accessible and beautiful

Early adopters: People willing to shape this with honest feedback

Collaborators of any kind: If you believe in the mission, I want to hear from you

You don't need to be an AI expert. You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to believe this matters.
Because it does.

Join Us

GitHub: github.com/8bitHeroLabs
Email: 8bithero.dev@gmail.com
LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/orion-burnette-23112b116
Come build something for people like us.
Because we see what others miss.

P.S. If you're neurodivergent and have been told you're "broken" or "need to fit in," this is for you. Spoiler: You're not broken. You're just seeing the world through a different lens. Let's build AI that finally reflects that.
