Want to Get Noticed? Getting Referred Is Your Secret Weapon.

In the cutthroat world of employment, referrals are crucial for candidates to stand out and land interviews. In essence, a reference attests to a candidate's abilities and compatibility with the organization. When recruiting managers are going through piles of resumes, an inside referral from a reliable employee may be quite valuable.

Employee recommendations are becoming a potent means of gaining access to highly sought-after interviews and positions at prestigious firms. You might move from being just another nameless CV to a priority prospect with only one referral from the appropriate person, greatly increasing your chances of being recruited straight away.

Things to do before requesting for a referral.

  1. Build a strong Resume

Select one suitable resume template and edit it with projects that relate and experience for the job role you're seeking for. Learn everything about creating a strong resume in this Video by Nishant Chahar.

  2. Optimize your LinkedIn

Update your LinkedIn profile by filling out elements such as the headline, about summary, highlighted section, experience, talents, and projects. Learn everything about creating a strong LinkedIn profile in this Video by Ashish Pratap Singh.

  3. Value Networking

To boost career chances, professionals must create and maintain professional contacts. Attend industry events, join online communities like Let's code , and connect on LinkedIn. Engage in meaningful conversations to showcase your abilities and interests. By building real relationships and being involved in your community, you may raise your visibility and trustworthiness, making personal referrals more likely and increasing your chances of finding a job.

Steps to Ask for a Referral

1. Identify the Right Person: Look for someone in your network who works for or has contacts with the firm.

2. Build a Relationship: Before making your request, engage with them on LinkedIn or other professional networks, providing value and assistance.

3. Research the corporate and Role: Learn about the corporate culture and job needs so that you can personalize your request accordingly.

4. Create a Polite Request: Send a clear and succinct message describing why you're interested in the position and how your talents match the post.

5. Provide Required Information: Attach your most recent resume and any other essential papers to make it easier for them to refer you.

6. Express Gratitude: Thank them for their time and assistance, regardless of the result.

7. Follow Up: If you haven't heard back after a week or so, send a nice reminder.

8. Keep them updated: Inform them of any developments in your job hunt and show gratitude for their assistance.

Connection Template:

Subject Line: Referral Request for [Internship/Entry-Level] Role at [Company Name]
Dear [Name],
I hope this message finds you well. As one of my valued professors/mentors/connections at [University Name], I'm reaching out to request your assistance in securing a [internship/entry-level] role at [Company Name].

For individuals who are unfamiliar with programming, learning to code can seem like an overwhelming and daunting task. However, it can be an exciting and fulfilling journey that opens up a world of possibilities if you have the correct mindset, tools, and roadmap. The secret is to approach it with perseverance, patience, and an openness to change and advance. It's crucial to realise that programming is a skill that calls for constant practice, problem-solving skills, and an eagerness to learn about new technologies and paradigms before you start your coding adventure.

Here's a general roadmap to help you get started:

  1. Select a Programming Language

Make a decision regarding the first language you wish to learn. Popular choices for novices are C++, JavaScript, Python, and Java. To assist you in selecting the best language and matching it with market demand, take into account your objectives and areas of interest.
Make use of What programming language should I learn first? as a guide to prevent confusion.

  2. Learn the Basics

Start by learning the foundational concepts of the programming language that you have selected. Understanding variables, data types, functions, control structures (loops, conditionals), and fundamental input/output procedures are all part of this. Online resources such as official language documentation, codecademy, and freecodecamp can be excellent places to start.

  3. Practice

Practice, practice, and more practice are necessary for mastering the skill of coding. To make sure you understand the concepts you've learned, start with easy exercises and small projects. Practice problems can be found on sites like GitHub or Reddit, or on platforms like HackerRank and LeetCode

  4. Develop Projects

After you have a firm understanding of the principles, begin constructing little projects on your own. These could be straightforward scripts, applications, or even web pages. You can apply what you've learned and hone your problem-solving abilities by working on building projects.

  5. Learn algorithms and data structures

As you advance, you'll need to comprehend algorithms (like sorting, searching, and recursion) and data structures (like arrays, lists, trees, and graphs). Writing scalable and effective code requires an understanding of these ideas.
For DSA in C++ you can follow Striver, for DSA in Java you can follow Kunal Kushwaha

  6. Explore Development (For Example, Web Development)

Acquire knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript if you're keen on developing websites. Building static websites is a good place to start before moving on to dynamic, interactive web applications.

  7. Version Control

Acquire proficiency with version control platforms such as GitHub and Git. These are the tools that developers need to manage code repositories, track changes, and work together.
To understand GitHub and Git you can watch Complete Git and GitHub

  8. Join Groups and Look for Mentorship

Surround yourself with a developer community that is supportive. Participate in local meetups, join online forums, or look for a mentor who can offer advice and criticism on your code.
Joining the Let's Code Developer Community will help you advance your networking.

  9. Never Stop Learning

New programming languages, frameworks, and tools are always being developed as a result of the rapid advancement of technology. Adopt a mindset that values lifelong learning and keep abreast of the newest trends and industry best practices.

  10. Create a Portfolio

To demonstrate your abilities to prospective clients or employers, begin compiling a portfolio of your work as you get experience.
You can take reference from HackerNoon for portfolio ideas.

Always keep in mind that learning to code is a journey that requires patience, commitment, and perseverance. Being proficient in programming languages and concepts takes time, so patience is needed along the way. There will inevitably be difficult times during the learning process, including moments of frustration, uncertainty, and even self-doubt. Seize them as chances for improvement and self-realisation.

Be patient, stay motivated, and enjoy the process of problem-solving and creating with code.

                           HAPPY LEARNING!!!

Is Coding Hard?

It's not, and if you think that it is, let's make it easy together.

The field of coding may seem congested, but it offers a wealth of chances, potential, and endeavours. Most significantly, it is relevant both today and in the future. Understanding the highs and lows that people often experience when learning to code is necessary before beginning.

If you follow these suggestions, you won't ever think that coding is hard:

  1. Never Compare yourself to others

Let's start by examining a real-world example to better grasp coding. Say, your friend inspired you to follow through on your goal to tone and improve the shape of your body. The very following day, after learning the benefits of maintaining your physical fitness, you made the decision to visit the gym. You got up early, got ready for the gym, and headed there.
When you go back from the gym, you feel demotivated since you saw that others your age or younger are already fit and in good physical form. Individuals often begin comparing themselves to others before they even begin, which is why it's important to concentrate on your own objectives and monitor your own advancement.
One life lesson, as stated by "Jordan B. Peterson" in his book

"The 12 Rules of Life," is to "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today."

  2. Do your own research before starting

Most people don't do their own research. In this instance, you followed your friend's advice and joined the gym, but after leaving the gym, you felt demotivated. Whatever your friend recommended, you began implementing it before conducting your own research, which is why your curiosity waned.

By asking yourself two key questions, you can pique your interest in the topic of coding study and develop your curiosity.
Those are as well:

What information is necessary to acquire? such as what grabs your interest, what needs to be done, etc.

How to acquire knowledge, conduct your own research, compile a roadmap, and stick to it.

As Bruce Berkowitz famously quipped, "Tell me where I'm going to die, that is, so I don't go there," you can prevent yourself from dying with careful research.

Few popular sources to make a roadmap for your coding journey:

      freecodecamp.org

      theodinproject.com

          Developer Roadmaps - roadmap.sh

Community driven roadmaps, articles and guides for developers to grow in their career.

        roadmap.sh

  3. Don’t bite more off than you can chew

Now that you know everything there is to know, let's imagine you have planned your journey to the gym for the next six months. You exercise vigorously for a solid two weeks, but since the amount of load you take on is no longer something your body can adapt to, you become demotivated once more.

Taking on several tasks at once is not going to help you become a proficient developer. It takes time to develop as a skill. People tend to "overestimate what they can achieve in the short term and underestimate what they can achieve in the long term," which
makes them desire to complete tasks more quickly.

  4. Stop questioning your abilities

Now you know the art of researching, taking on jobs that your body can handle, and going to the gym every day, but you are now confronted with the issue of your capabilities since, despite your best efforts, you don't notice any physical changes in your body.

Here's a lovely idea from Dan Sullivan's book "The Gap and the Gain," where he clarifies The term "gap" describes the perceived difference between one's current situation and desired future state, frequently emphasising inadequacies or limitations. Conversely, "gain" emphasises development, learning, and making the most of opportunities and strengths to signify the constructive steps taken in the direction of betterment. The mentality that is focused on closing the gap must give way to one
that is focused on making progress; this requires redefining
obstacles as opportunities, accepting constant improvement, and
developing perseverance in the face of failure.

To avoid questioning your abilities you can network here Dev Market, where you can ask for assistance from others and express your unwavering interest in coding.

  5. Get yourself a coding partner

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, coming to the gym with a friend will make it more enjoyable for you. Sometimes your friend helps you at the gym, and other times you help your friend. Sometimes you elevate your friend's spirits when they don't want to go to the gym, and other times you do the same for them.

It's quite helpful to have a code buddy for a number of reasons. They provide encouragement and inspiration when you run into difficulties or feel stuck, as well as assistance through the ups and downs of coding projects. Working together with a code buddy helps you develop a feeling of accountability since you're more inclined to remain dedicated to your objectives and maintain concentration when having someone to discuss your progress with. Working with a friend also facilitates sharing of knowledge and skill development since you can share ideas, solve issues together, and benefit from each other's experiences. This helps you acquire new information more quickly and become more adept at solving difficulties.

The Let's Code community, where members network with one another to increase future possibilities, can provide you with a coding buddy. Use this link to become a member of the community Let's Code

"The person you look upto and admire is your future self."
