A game of volleyball is very fun and is played by all sorts of people, regardless of age. Step 1: Pick Your Place

Step 2: Measure and Mark the Site
The official volleyball court measures 30 feet by 60 feet. Use measuring tape and stakes to accurately outline the court boundaries. For beach volleyball, a smaller court of 26 feet 3 inches by 52 feet 6 inches should be used.

Step 3: Clear the Ground
Clear away sticks, stones, and other partial obstructions from the grounds. In case you are constructing a sand court, remove the top soil of about 12 to 18 inches before you put in drainage using gravel so that water will not collect there.

Step 4: Lay Out Boundary Lines

Weather-resistant rope, painted lines, or commercial boundary tape should be used. Anchor it properly so that during play the line does not shift.

Step 5: Set Up the Net System

Put strong net posts in the center of each sideline. Make sure the net is at 7 feet 11 5/8 inches for men's play and at 7 feet 4 1/8 inches for women's play. The net must be tight and centered equally between the two net posts.

Step 6:Surface Overlay
The indoor courts and natural grass should be properly arranged to have the desired level surface. For sand courts, add good quality washed sand to about 12-18 inches in depth, and then rake evenly across the court.

Step 7: Lighting (Optional)

If night games are what you intend, light up your court with LED floodlights. Be sure to install them in such a manner that there's no glaring.

Step 8: Maintenance of the Court
If you want a long life and durability for your court, it is to be maintained regularly. Raking up sand, checking the net tension, and replacing the boundary markers as required will go a long way in keeping up your court.
