Bootcamp challenges and how I have adapted in the last few weeks

There is a saying that says "The brain needs to be regularly challenged in order to attain its uttermost performance" and it was Michelle Obama who said, " Believe in yourself, take on your challenges, dig deep within yourself to conquer fears". I believe that we should never see challenges as disadvantages rather, they should be an advantage to grow and get experience in facing and overcoming difficulties.
It has been almost two weeks into the Bootcamp and we had many challenges to overcome, so as to reach here. It is my first time at Bootcamp and this only was challenging, as I did not know what we had to do at the Bootcamp and what was required to be well feet for the Bootcamp. Then I had to adapt to the new environment of hard workers who can't let even a second pass for nothing.
The biggest challenge was that I started learning javascript when I applied to Andela. After receiving an email invitation to the Bootcamp, I had really to work harder as I was new to most of the tools, we had to use in the ADC(Andela Developer Challenge) and this was my first web application. Even though it was a little scaring but it also encouraged me to work harder so that I will be able to go with others and to finish everything I had to do.

Another challenge I met at the Bootcamp was stress management. As almost everything is new to me, I first have to find time to get some basic knowledge on it and after I integrate that thing into the ADC. This requires to take more time so as to accomplish everything. It was via the help of the LFAs(Learning Facilitator) and my team members who helped to boost my skills and manage this hard challenge.
The challenges I met through the Bootcamp booted my skills being technical and none technical skills, I learned a lot from them and what is amazing is that I have so far been able to adapt myself through those challenges even though it is not easy.

The biggest lesson from the challenges is that no matter what kind of difficult situations I pass through, I have to find the inner strength to get through everything. Now I am thankful to what I have been able to learn and accomplish with my ADC and I am looking forward to learn and get more.

My reflections on Andela's EPIC values

Andela is a network of software developers that is empowering and developing talented African software developers.

Usually, the word epic describes something too long like a heroic long poem, a long movie or a long book, but at Andela is a little different. The word EPIC stands for values that an Andelan must-have. They are the values that can help anyone to progress in developing his/her carrier.

 EPIC

.E in EPIC stands for Excellence
Excellence is the quality of being outstanding and brighter. In epic for me being excellent is doing anything to its maximum. An excellent person helps others so that they can be excellent as well, and he/she is a good learn who is always seeking to improve and know something new.

.P in EPIC stands for Passion
Passion is a strong filling/liking for a subject or an activity. For me nothing does is good as doing something of your passion, that thing you like the most, the thing that you believe can change your life as well as the society. Hard work is a key to someone's own development, so without passion, things will become like a burden and this will be a failure.

.I in EPIC stands for Integrity
Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Being honest is an important moral value that helps in the development of every person. Being honest will help me to know at what level I really am, and it will help me to construct a good and helping collaboration with my peers.

.C in EPIC stands for Collaboration
Collaboration is the act of working together with one or more people to achieve a common goal. Collaborating helps me to get knowledge from my peers and share what I know with others. This helps me also to understand better the concept of what I don't know well. Also, collaboration helps in creating a good relationship among peers.

By having EPIC values nothing seems impossible.

Before applying to Andela I really didn't knew what Andela was and what they do.
What I knew was that Andela is a place where you can get to improve your technical skills.
I also though we will be learning everything and after implementing it.

But I found it different and more challenging.
Just direction are enough to start doing your own learning and implement what you learnt.
Because almost everything for me was new, I stated thinking of dropping and go to first learn and may be come back after.
But latter, I decided to stay and work harder as I can to learn and implement anything required for the project.
Now I am here and I thing I am progressing day by day and I believe I will work to the end to get all required to improve.

That was how I changed my mindset to do better than deserting.

Andela is developing talented software developers in Africa. Before starting applying at Andela, I din't even knew what was Andela and what they were doing. One thing I knew was that, Andela was giving an opportunity to young Africans to learn by challenging them.

As I am someone who likes to learn by challenges, that was the reason I applied at Andela to be challenged. After some tests I was then invited to join the pre-boot-camp. So far in the pre boot-camp we get to know many things that help us in our ADC(Andela Developer Challenge) and in our every day life. Even though many of them were new to me, this didn't stopped me following the right path to know and understand them more.

I get to know new things technically like project management tools like github and pivotal tracker, sql,... , and morally which are even more interesting like working in team, helping people who need help, reach out whenever you need a help, try to do every thing to the maximum as I can and much more I can't list.

Now I am looking forward to gain much more experience which can help me improving my career and becoming a professional developer.
