5th week as a taskforce 3.0 member

Hi! Today I would like to talk about my 5th week as taskforce member. The week has been full of productive and fun sessions.

On Wednesday we had a really great and fun session with Thomas, The session was about Agile Project Management. In case you don't know what Agile is, Agile is an iterative approach to project management and software development that helps teams deliver value to their customers faster and with fewer headaches.

We played a very cool Business Simulation Game, it was so fun! I acted as a scrum master. It was my first time to work or act as a scrum master, by acting such role I gained a little bit of experience. I found out that as a scrum mater you really need to push the team and make sure things' re always set.

During the session, I also found out that before starting any project; the team of developers, scrum master, project owner, and every one who involves in the project should sit together to plan for sprints. Before having this session, I used to think that there is no need for the product owner to be there during the sprint planning, but now I know how import it is for the P.O present during the sprint planning.

This week we did not only do soft kill sessions we also had to integrate the LoT dashboard with backend.

In the start of Business Simulation Game, I had a little challenge to act as a scrum master as this was my first time to be a scrum master, but then I realized that this session was for me to learn and then I calmed down myself, took a deep breathe and every thing started to go well during the whole game.

I have a lot to say about this week, but let me stop by here.

Thanks for reading.

How I developed growth mindset this week

“Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.” Samuel Johnson

Today I would like to write about how I pushed myself to develop a growth mindset. By the way, I just started with Samuel Johnson's quote because it strengthens me and helps me to never give up.

Let me talk about the topic of today “How I developed growth mindset this week” Before joining Awesomity Lab & Code of Africa's bootcamp; I used to think that I don't need to know how to do mockups, but now I have realized that to be a good frontend dev I need it.

Before applying to this bootcamp I was not into making mockups, but yesterday I challenged myself to do a design of YouTube in Figma! and I did it even though it does not look great yet but 'Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance' as Samuel Johnson said. So I'm gonna keep on learning.

I believe that having a growth mindset will be a key to success and make my designing skills better. As I have realized that being the best frontend developer requires a little bit of designing mockups skills, So, effort, and persistence are all important for me to know how to do mockups.

In general, I just wanted to mentioned that I have learned a lot so far since I have applied to join this bootcamp, I have been working on different challenges and enjoying them.

This week I did not face so many challenges, the only challenge was internet connections when I had to work from home; but I improvised and overcome this by changing my internet provider.

Thank you for reading and sharing from my experience.

My experience in bootcamp this last week

It's the 3rd week of the bootcamp, which makes it the half way of the bootcamp journey. This last week has been a self-learning week and a lot of things have happened this last week. There’s been a lot of coding, and learning.

I get used to getting things done, asking questions when stuck on something has become my thing!, at this bootcamp, things move faster! and I make sure that I'm always all set.

I have been able to learn more advanced topics of Reactjs, Antd, firebase and Redux as I had to work on the LoT project just on my own.

Beside all of these technologies that I got to gain more knowledge about, I also learned more about critical thinking with Olaf.

I have learned how to ask questions by practicing Five whys, how to seek feedback, and how to implement them. I’ve also been able to improve on some skills, such as stress management & resilience.

 Challenges

Even though this week has been intense, I did not experience any challenge. And moving forward, I hope to improve even more on the skills I have acquired during this last week.

Thank you for reading!

How the bootcamp is going so far

Hi! First of all I'd like to thank you for taking a time to read this, and I hope you gonna read it to the end right!?

Last week I shared how I now pay attention to user stories when building web applications, and how important user stories are. Here is the link to it in case you have not checked it out yet. Well, today I just wanted to share with you how the bootcamp is going so far, especially during this week.

Ok, the week has been fun as always. We worked on some Katas (On Codewars, kata are code challenges focused on improving skill and technique). Some of katas were simple; well, at least for me of course! and others were a little bit challenging but fun though!. We also learned what Git workflow is , the purpose of Software documentation, the purpose of having a DevOps process and the reasons why to containerizing projects.

Ok, I know how these terms may sound not familiar to you and more technical if you're not a developer, but I just wanted to give you a quick view of what we've been at this week.

I hope I did not bore you with those technical words and stuff! and oh! I just almost forgot to tell you how fun it was doing the research about German Stereotypes!, one of many researches I did is that Germans love cars! Agree? let me know in the comments.

Let me stop by here. I have a lot of things to say but I need to make this post short, before I put the last dot on it, I just want to say that I'm gaining a lot from this bootcamp. Thanks to Awesomity Lab and Code of Africa who organized it.

Thanks for reading!

My first week a.k.a my thirteenth week at Awesomity Lab & Code of Africa's Bootcamp

Today I'd like to talk about my last week at the bootcamp organized by Awesomity Lab in collaboration with Code of Africa, but first of all you maybe wondering why in the title I have said 'My first week at this bootcamp a.k.a the 13th! Well, I was one of developers that attended the 12 weeks first bootcamp there, as this is the 3rd one which is gonna take 6 weeks.

In last 2 weeks I saw a post on Awesomity Lab's LinkedIn page that the bootcamp is back, then I applied because I wanted to comeback to this bootcamp to sharpen one of the technical skills that I didn't use to care too much about during my past years as a developer which is Understanding user stories when building apps. When building apps I did not use to take user stories and their acceptance criteria very seriously and to be honest it impacted my career as a software developer in the past few months because whenever a clients asked me to do something I used to do it in the way I think is good differently to the way they would like it to be without talking to them first at least! and sometimes this disappoints them, it impacted it to the point that today I have to do all the best I can to regain the trust from many of my clients and bosses, so sad, right?

Yeah it is but I'm super lucky and blessed to have Awesomity Lab and Code of Africa! guess what! I'm already good at working with user stories, I know how important they are when building apps for the client, I know that it's very I mean very important to follow them as user wants them to be implemented and I know how to ask questions when there is one of them not clear; all in just one week! it's insane right?

Practicing how to follow user stories when building apps, I have created this kinda atm app just from scratch following tasks and how user wants it to function. If you are a developer you may even would like to take a look at it's source code, right? if that's it then here is the link to it on GitLab.

Well, I have a lot to say but I need to make this as short as possible so it does't bore you, but before I put an end on this post I just wanted to say that this bootcamp has saved my life already. From now on I will have to make sure that I follow what user wants not what I think is good when building their apps and ask them whenever I have queries about what they want.

Thanks for reading!

A tip on how to stay motivated and not give up when learning to code

Remind yourself why you started learning to code

In this Facebook community Sunjay A. shared the following advice:

“In those days you feel without motivation, take a deep breath and find ways to rest. Next… try to remember the goal you had when you first began this journey. What motivated you then? If you had no specific goal, set one today and work toward that.”

Well, I agree with Sunjay because I believe that remembering why you started can be a nice way to rediscover what inspired you in the first place, reinvigorate your desire to learn, and help you find the motivation to keep going.

Thank you for reading!
