This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle

 What I Built

<PolicyLens AI acts as an automated "fine print" analyzer for insurance documents. It converts complex, dense, and legalese-heavy insurance contracts into structured, plain-English summaries using local artificial intelligence.

What Does PolicyLens AI Do?
Document Extraction & Processing: It parses uploaded policy PDFs (health, life, auto, property) to extract key parameters like coverage limits, co-pays, deductibles, and waiting periods.

Exclusion & "Red Flag" Detection: It automatically scans the contract to highlight hidden exclusions, clause restrictions, and potential claim-rejection risks that users typically miss.

Interactive Q&A: It provides an interactive chat interface allowing users to ask specific questions about their policy (e.g., "Is water damage covered under this policy?") and receive immediate, contextual answers.

Local Data Privacy: Because it runs using a local LLM backend (Ollama/Gemma), sensitive personal financial and health documents never leave the host machine.

What Problem Does It Solve?
Opaque Legal Language: Insurance policies are deliberately written in complex legal terms, leading consumers to assume they have coverage when they don't.

Time-Consuming Manual Audits: Insurance brokers and financial advisors spend hours manually reading 50+ page policy documents to evaluate coverage or perform comparisons.

Data Privacy Concerns in Cloud AI: Traditional cloud-based AI tools require uploading confidential consumer documents to third-party servers, creating compliance and privacy risks.

Who Would Pay for It?

B2B / Commercial Buyers (Highest Willingness to Pay)
Independent Insurance Brokers & Agencies: They will pay a monthly subscription to quickly review client policies, spot coverage gaps, and generate side-by-side comparison reports during sales pitches.

Financial Planners & Wealth Managers: They need to audit their clients' risk exposure without spending hours reading fine print.

Corporate HR & Employee Benefits Teams: Companies reviewing group health policy updates or comparing competing carrier bids for employee benefits.

Legal & Public Adjuster Firms: Professionals assisting consumers with rejected claims need to quickly surface specific policy clauses and loop-holes.

B2C / End Consumers
Individual Policyholders: Everyday consumers who want a "one-time check" before renewing a policy or filing a claim to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket rejections. (Typically monetized via a micro-transaction, e.g., $5–$10 per document report).

Potential Business Models
Freemium / Micro-transactions: 1 free policy review, then a small fee per additional document uploaded.

SaaS Subscription: $29–$99/month for brokers and financial advisors requiring unlimited document uploads, client reporting, and export features.

On-Premise / Enterprise License: Selling the local/private deployment package directly to regional insurance agencies who require zero cloud exposure for regulatory compliance.>

 Demo

 Code

https://github.com/manjushapirati030/policylens.git

 How I Built It

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
