Microsoft has acquired Github and so what?

Why all the fuss from devs about this acquisition? Microsoft has shown clearly in recent times that they are committed to open source.

I find it pretty absurd that devs are contemplating moving to bitbucket or gitlab simply because MS made their fortune from proprietary software.

Look at companies like Google and Facebook who generate 80% of their revenue from selling YOUR data. Will you rather love a company that sells YOU or one that sells software?

In any case, Nadela has taken MS in an exciting direction with all these open source programs.

The .NET framework is open source.

Asp.net Identity is open source.

MS is the largest contributer on github.

MS has several open source tools

The fact is Microsoft builds great developer tools which is the more reason devs should be more optimistic about this acquisition and expect great additions to github.
