Microsoft has shown clearly in recent times that they are committed to open source.</p> <p>I find it pretty absurd that devs are contemplating moving to bitbucket or gitlab simply because MS made their fortune from proprietary software.</p> <p>Look at companies like Google and Facebook who generate 80% of their revenue from selling YOUR data. Will you rather love a company that sells YOU or one that sells software?</p> <p>In any case, Nadela has taken MS in an exciting direction with all these open source programs. </p> <ol> <li>The .NET framework is open source.</li> <li>Asp.net Identity is open source.</li> <li>MS is the largest contributer on github.</li> <li>MS has several open source tools </li> </ol> <p>The fact is Microsoft builds great developer tools which is the more reason devs should be more optimistic about this acquisition and expect great additions to github.</p> acquisitions microsoft github
