When PMI replaced the PMP exam on 9 July 2026, every training provider had to rework its course. The new exam shifts weight toward business environment, judgment and AI-enabled delivery, so prep material written for the 2021 outline now leaves real gaps.

We wanted to see how one of the larger PMI Premier Authorized Training Partners has been handling the change, so we went through the recent coverage of Simplilearn's PMP training. Five articles published in September 2026 stood out. Below is what each one covers, who it is most useful for, and the questions it leaves open.

Disclosure: the author works at Simplilearn. This is a summary of published coverage, not an independent course review.

 1. Republic World: the course rebuilt around the new exam

The most detailed of the five is Republic World's piece on how Simplilearn is helping project professionals move from agile to AI skills through PMP certification, published 16 September.

It opens with PMI's view of skills as a spectrum, from short-lived tool knowledge to judgment that compounds over a career, and uses that to explain why the exam changed. It then walks through the updated course:

35 hours of live, instructor-led training, which also meet PMI's training requirement

A GenAI in Project and Quality Management module covering AI-assisted decision support, risk analysis and quality checks

More than 14 exam simulations and over 2,000 practice questions

PMI membership, which includes the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and PMI's Infinity AI coach

A money-back guarantee tied to study and attendance conditions

Most useful for: anyone who wants a concrete list of what a post-July 2026 PMP course should include, to compare against other providers.

 2. DNA India: the India angle

DNA's report on Simplilearn updating its PMP training as the new AI-focused exam takes effect, from 22 September, is the one to read if you are in India.

It notes that India has recorded around 48% growth in certified project professionals, the highest in South Asia, and that PMI estimates the country could need up to 8.5 million more project professionals by 2035. On the training side, it reports that the course now follows the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and covers generative AI, sustainability, governance and stakeholder engagement, with more than 116,000 learners trained to date.

The article closes on a fair point: the real question raised by PMI's refresh is less about passing an exam and more about whether training can keep pace with how quickly the role itself is changing.

Most useful for: Indian professionals weighing the credential against local demand.

 3. mid-day: PMP and agentic AI

mid-day's article looks at how Simplilearn is bridging the skills gap with PMP and agentic AI training. Where the other pieces treat AI mostly as exam content, this one frames it as a workforce question: what project professionals need to learn as AI agents take on more of the routine coordination work.

That framing matters. Agents can already update boards, draft status reports and flag slipping dependencies. The skills that remain with people are trade-offs, escalation and stakeholder alignment, which is exactly where the new PMP exam now puts more weight.

Most useful for: readers trying to understand where project management training and agentic AI skills meet.

 4. Analytics Insight: choosing a course by career goal

The most practical of the five is Analytics Insight's guide on how to choose a project management course based on your career goal, published 30 September. It is less news and more decision guide.

It splits readers into four stages:

Where you are

New to project management

Leading projects, want global recognition

Working in software or product teams

Aiming for director or executive roles

What it suggests

A foundational course or CAPM before PMP

PMP

Agile or Scrum certification, often stacked on PMP

Post graduate or program-level credentials

It also includes a pre-enrolment checklist: updated content for the July 2026 outline, instructors with real project experience, scenario-based mock tests, mentor support, and confirmation that the provider is a PMI Authorized Training Partner.

Most useful for: anyone not yet sure PMP is the right credential for them.

 5. Technology.org: GenAI certifications for project managers

Technology.org's listicle on the benefits of having GenAI certifications for project managers, from 22 September, widens the lens beyond PMP.

It makes the case for AI credentials as a complement to core project management certification rather than a replacement. That is a sensible way to read the whole set of articles: PMP shows you can lead delivery, while a GenAI credential shows you can apply AI inside that delivery.

Most useful for: working project managers deciding whether to add an AI credential alongside PMP.

 What the coverage agrees on

Read together, the five articles land on the same few points:

- The exam really did change. Business Environment rose from 8% to 26% of the exam, and AI and sustainability now appear in project scenarios, as PMI's own summary confirms.
- Judgment is the skill being tested. More questions are scenario-based, and memorised process detail counts for less.
- Demand is growing. PMI expects organisations to need up to 30 million new project professionals by 2035, and certifications granted rose 36% year on year in the first five months of 2026.
- Course content has to be current. Material built on the 2021 outline under-prepares candidates for the new weightings.

What to check yourself before enrolling anywhere

Press coverage tells you what a provider offers. It cannot tell you whether that offer fits you. Whichever course you are considering, Simplilearn's or anyone else's, these are worth checking directly:

1. Authorized Training Partner status. From 1 December 2026, PMI will count live training hours only from ATPs and eligible academic programs. Look the provider up on PMI's ATP list.
2. The money-back terms. Guarantees usually come with attendance and study conditions. Read them before you rely on them.
3. How recent the mock tests are. Ask whether the question bank was rebuilt for the July 2026 outline or only topped up.
4. Your own eligibility. PMP needs 36 months of project leadership with a four-year degree, or 60 months without. If you are short, CAPM may be the better first step.
5. Independent reviews. Look for learner reviews on third-party sites to balance what you read in the press.

 Closing thoughts

The September coverage paints a consistent picture. PMI rewrote the PMP exam around judgment, business value and AI, and providers are rebuilding their courses to match. For Simplilearn, the reporting points to updated content on the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition, added GenAI modules, and a push to pair project management with agentic AI skills.

If you are planning to sit the exam in the next few months, the two dates that matter most are already behind you and just ahead: the new exam has been live since 9 July, and the training-hour rules change on 1 December. Use the articles above to understand the landscape, then check the details that apply to you.

Have you started preparing for the new PMP exam? I would be interested to hear which parts of the new outline you are finding hardest.
