Curious about how free anime/movie streaming sites handle storage and bandwidth under the hood

Been going down a rabbit hole trying to understand how free streaming sites actually operate without instantly going broke or getting nuked by hosting providers.

From a system design perspective, I can't wrap my head around a few things:

Storage/Bandwidth: If they're serving thousands of full movies/shows, storing that on something like S3 would rack up insane egress bills in a day. Where are they actually dumping all these files? Are they using weird file hosters, cloud drive abuse, or something else?

Staying online: How do they handle the infrastructure so they don't get taken down immediately?

Curious if anyone has reverse-engineered these or looked into their network tabs out of pure technical interest. How do they actually architect this stuff?
