QuickBooks is helpful for accounting, payroll, and other elements of financial administration. Today, practically everyone, from large corporations to tiny businesses, relies on the QuickBooks application. QuickBooks desktop's Verify and Rebuild Data File utility are two of the most popular built-in features of intuit.

One of the most common reasons for using the Verify and Rebuild data file functions is when you encounter problems using QuickBooks software. These can also be used if any issues are found in reports, such as expenses or invoices. The verify data utility detects and considers common data problems in a company file, whereas the rebuild data utility is used to correct data integrity concerns discovered by the verify data tool. In this post, we'll go through how to verify and rebuild data files in QuickBooks software.

Most Common Reasons for Using Verify and Rebuild

Before we proceed to know how to use verify and rebuild data file function, let’s get to know the most common reasons for using this QuickBooks utility:

When the errors get displayed while using QuickBooks desktop. Errors can be: ‘-6000, -80,’ ‘-6150, 0,’ ‘H202.

When the company file is not opening.

If there’s a discrepancy in the reports, such as in the invoice or bills having negative values.

When already deposited payments are still visible in the Payments to Deposit window.

If the business file cannot be found.

When some accounts are not visible in the company file.

Company list does not show any names.

How to Use Verify and Rebuild Data File Functions in QuickBooks
We've outlined the key steps to use the verify and rebuild data file functions in QuickBooks desktop to fix corruption and data damage:

Using Verify Data File Utility

Select Window first, then Close All.

Now, you can apply the verify function to the data. To do so, go to File, then Utilities, and further click the Verify Data option.

Based on the issues, you can implement the following scenarios:

If QuickBooks finds no problems with your data, you do not need to take any action.

If you detect specific technical issues, you can search the QuickBooks Desktop help sites for related articles for solving the technical glitches.

If you discover that your data has become corrupted, the file will be damaged. In that situation, you must follow the procedures outlined below to Rebuild Data to solve the problem.

Using Rebuild Data File Utility

Navigate to the File> Utilities> Rebuild Data
Important Note: The rebuild data procedure may require deleting transactions, list entries, or fixing the file, so make sure you backup the company file in advance.

A warning message will be displayed on the screen, instructing you to make a backup of your company file. To do so, click the OK button.

Now, in the QuickBooks Desktop Backup Window, browse the location where you wish to save your backup file, then select OK.

If no notifications appear asking if you want to replace another backup file, select NO. Fill in the File Name field with a new name, then click Save.

If the backup fails, pick CANCEL at the Rebuild prompt and contact Payroll support for assistance.

When the backup is complete, the Rebuild Data utility is launched.

When you see the message Rebuild Completed, click it. Select the OK button.

Check for Remaining Data Damage

If there are any additional damages identified during the verification procedure, they should be repaired. For this, you can seek the QuickBooks Desktop support pages for a solution.

If you can't detect any errors, you can try restoring the most recent backup. For this, select the file, then click Restore, making sure not to overwrite your existing company file. If any information was added to the company file after the backup, you must manually add it and restore it.

What Can you Do If Verify and Rebuild Fail to Repair?
If you still do not find a solution to your issue and still cannot access your data, it means that the company file is severely corrupted and in this case, verify and rebuild utility might not be helpful. So, you can use a third-party professional tool, Stellar Repair for QuickBooks software. The software is capable of repairing a QBW file and recovering all its components. In addition to repairing the company file, you can also repair the customer, vendors and employees' information. If you are receiving a QuickBooks unrecoverable error, the Stellar Repair for QuickBooks resolves it by repairing the corrupt data. You can take a detailed look at the recovered data before saving it. You also get an option to recover your data from the QuickBooks backup (QBB) file.

Wrap Up
We discussed how to use the Verify and Rebuild utility in this post. However, it's possible that using the built-in verify and rebuild function won't give the intended results and your corrupted QBW file won't be fully recovered. In this instance, you can seek help from Stellar Repair for QuickBooks Software to repair your corrupted QuickBooks file. The software also restores all the information stored in the corrupted file keeping 100% data integrity.

One of the common tasks of Database Administrators (DBAs) is to back up the database and then restore it. Using the Microsoft SQL Server software, you can store, sort, and retrieve data as requested by other computer applications and software. You can use this software for installed applications on the same computer and also for other computers through the network. However, while using this software, you may face multiple issues. In this new article, we will discuss how to move the database from one computer to another computer or one server to another server, by using the backup and restore the function of Microsoft SQL Server.

How to Move SQL Database from One Server to Another?

Microsoft SQL Server supports local computers for a single users (as discussed in the introduction). However, for large (multi-user application) scale data, Microsoft also provides server-side editions. To help the customers, Microsoft also provides some powerful features in the same software. In order to move database from one server to another, you can use such advanced features of the MS SQL Server. If you are not familiar with the MS SQL Server and how you can use its backup and restore database function for moving the database from one server to another, read the steps given below.

Step 1:
Open MS SQL Server and select the database. After selecting the database, right-click on it. From the options that appear, select “Task” and then the “Backup” option. (See the image below).

Step 2:
A new popup widow will open, with multiple options. Be careful and select the right options. Enter the database name in the first field. In the third field, select the backup type. Here, you can select the option “Full” from the drop down. Next, under the “Backup component”, select the “Database” option. In the last section, you will see the add button. Here, you need to add the path where you want to store the database. Make sure once again that you’ve selected the right options.

Step 3:
After successfully completing all the steps, you need to copy the file and paste it into another computer, where you want to move the database. After pasting the database, open MS SQL server and right click on the database root folder. Here, you need to select the “Restore Database” option.

Step 4:
After selecting the database restore option, a new window will open (see below image).

Press the browse button and you will see a new window on your screen.

Select the backup file and press the OK button. A new window will appear (like the below given image).

Here, you can see that the file is successfully added. Now, press the OK button and you will see that your file is successfully restored.

What To Do if Backup is Damaged?
However, sometimes, when you try to restore and backup the .bak, you might find the file is damaged due to viruses or any other reason such as a hard disk failure. In such a case, you need to select a good tool for recovering the .bak file. One of the best tools to resolve MS SQL Server problems is Stellar Repair for MS SQL. It is an advanced software that repairs corrupt SQL database files and recovers all the database components.

The software offers three options:
1- Repair MS SQL Database: It will repair corrupt MS SQL Server Database.
2- Recover MS SQL Server Password: It will recover your MS SQL Server Password.
3- Extract from MS SQL Backup: You can use this option to repair the backup file, in case it is corrupted.
For more details about the tool, check Stellar Toolkit for MS SQL: https://www.stellarinfo.com/sql-database-toolkit.php .

Conclusion
In this article, we’ve discussed how to move database from one server to another server by using the backup and restore method. However, if the backup is corrupted, you need to use a third-party tool such as Stellar Toolkit for MS SQL to repair the backup files.
