Hi All,

My name is Peter, and this is my first post (even though I have been browsing this community for probably around two years 😂). Just wanted to make a post and start to be more active in a community of developers as I do not have any in my life anymore.

So I guess I'll start with a little about myself. I am relatively new to the world of software development. I transitioned into software after a few years of being an automotive technician and currently work for a small company that makes a series of web-applications, and back-end services, for media companies and their advertisers.

We write our software mostly in Java using GWT/GXT for our main product with one of our products written with Ember.js, which I do not see many if any posts about but the company I work for does not currently have the resources or time to adapt to a more modern framework, currently I am essentially the only developer.

I feel fairly confident in my abilities as a Java dev (a little less confident in JavaScript), however I still feel lacking with the whole picture of development. I've made new features and implemented new workflows for our existing products but I have never truly created an application or project from the ground up. Thus I lack in dependency management and writing build scripts (We use a seemingly odd combination of ant and Gradle currently). Mostly I solve problems, fix bugs, improve existing code, and make UI changes, but I have a strong desire to improve my knowledge and capabilities. I don't even think I have all of the appropriate terminology down correctly 😑.

Well I guess that's all for now, if anyone who reads this has any sort of advice for what to learn next (languages, frameworks, systems...) or similar communities to be involved in I would love to get the feedback or if anyone just wants to talk ask questions what have you I would welcome that as well.

Thanks for reading!
