DevX Status Update

 Yo

Hey all, it’s been another week of behind the scenes work getting ready for the next phase of our work but now that the entire team is back from their holidays and with the news shared just below, I’d like to think we are ready to come out strong and get some good work done!

Either way hope you are all continuing to enjoy the summer heat.

 New Team Member!!

Some good news to announce is that we now have a new member in the DevX team, Dána Doherty has joined us from another team within Puppet by Perforce and based on all the good things that we have heard from them she will quickly become another vital part of our work going forward so I hope you are all as welcoming as can be.

I'm Dána, Ive been working at Puppet for 3 years now. I'm really looking forward to getting more involved in the developer experience and open-source community within Puppet. Outside of work I enjoy staying active, spending time outdoors, going dancing and travel.

 GitHub Pages

Finally, as part of ongoing work in order to improve and customize our documentation Gavin has put in work over the last week in order to launch some new GitHub Pages, specifically pages for puppet-lint and puppet-strings and while these are simply copys of the readme for now, depending on how they are recieved, or even through community contributions, they may very well grow to contain a wealth of information for our users.

 Community Contributions

We’d like to thank the following people in the Puppet Community for their contributions over this past week:

puppet-modulebuilder#93
: “Use Dir.glob with base parameter in acceptance tests”, thanks to ekohl

puppet_litmus#567
: “Removed some extraneous whitespace”, thanks to puppet-webteam

 Friday Again!!

Here we conclude another week at our Pune office. It was a relatively calm period with no significant updates in our modules. However, our focus throughout the week remained on fulfilling Forge commitments that were started at the beginning of the quarter.

Stay tuned for updates on the new features that our team has been working on…

 Community Contributions

We want to express our gratitude to the community contributors for their valuable contributions, even though last week saw a relatively quiet period in terms of new contributions.

Anyway with the weather slowly getting better and a heat wave coming in locally I hope you all have a great weekend and get some need sun, I’m hoping to actually get a tan this year.

 Belfast Summer Party

The team had a great afternoon out with all of our colleages completing a tour around the city with some cocktails and food. It was a great day had by all! Can you spot any of the DevX team, Lukas is currently in Peru living his best life, therefore unfortunately he missed out this time.

 dsc_lite timeouts are now configurable!

Jordan has been working hard on dsc_lite and ruby-pwsh. We are delighted that the timeout can now be configured.

Hello Friday! With some of the team heading off on vacation over the next week or so we will continue to work in the background, if you need anything remember to catch up at our Office Hours session bi-weekly or for anything urgent you can catch us on the Community Slack.

 dsc_lite Supported Status

As you may have seen last week we announced that we were spending some time on dsc_lite, it now runs with Puppet 8 and we will be supporting it going forward. This piece of work has now been closed out but always good to send out a reminder.

PDK Configuration of cert.pem for self-hosted git repos

Gavin has spent some time doing some research and providing documentation on how to manage certificates on self hosted git repos. The work has been merged and can be viewed on the docs site if it is something that affects you.

 Community Contributions

We’d like to thank the following people in the Puppet Community for their contributions over this past week:

litmusimage#86
: “Add remaining puppet-agent supported ARM64 platforms”, thanks to h0tw1r3

puppet_litmus#549
: “(feature) matrix from metadata v3”, thanks to h0tw1r3

 Friday Again!

As we come to the end of yet another week, there isn’t much news from the Pune office about Modules. Instead, we’ve been busy working on our commitments for Forge. Forge is becoming an exciting place with all new features. We hope you will love this change once it is out in Production for all to use.

Have a great weekend ahead and keep your contributions coming..

DevX Status Update

June coming in already and we are closing May with a couple of announcements.

 New triage visibility

We are working on moving our current triage process from internal boards to GitHub Projects. We are hoping this will bring a bit more transparency into how we approach community raised PRs and issues. Make sure to check the board out if you are interested.

 puppetlabs-dsc_lite adoption

We have officially adopted puppetlabs-dsc_lite into our toolset! This module suffered a bit of neglect over the last few years, as we worked on other projects. However, we have given it a fresh coat of paint and it is now up to speed with the rest of tools/modules, ready to be used with Puppet 7 and 8.

 New PDK download pointers

Another event worth mentioning is that we have moved our PDK download links to the Forge. That means that we no longer offer PDK package downloads from our puppet website. Instead, those links will be redirected to the Forge.

 Holiday time

As we have mentioned previously, June is already here. This means that, over the next few weeks, we might be a bit lighter on resources, as some of us are heading to holidays. I’m sure many of you might also have plans soon enough. We just wanted to let you know that some common events, like our community PR/issue triage or Office hours will probably move a bit slower than usual.

May you have a nice summer start!

 Hello Again!!

As we reflect on the week that’s passed, we’re eager to share some exciting developments with you. While our focus within the modules remained steady, with no significant updates to report, the Forge team has been bustling with activity. This week, alongside our usual tasks, we dove headfirst into a thrilling opportunity – a hackathon! Our Pune team led the charge, pouring their creativity and energy into this event.

Behind the scenes, there’s a buzz of progress and innovation happening within Forge. Our team has been hard at work, addressing challenges, refining processes, and laying the groundwork for future advancements. Although there aren’t any groundbreaking updates to share from the modules side this week, rest assured that our dedication to excellence and improvement remains unwavering. We’re committed to delivering the best possible experience for our community.

Keep an eye out for future updates as we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible within our platform.

 Community Contributions

We’d like to thank the following people in the Puppet Community for their contributions over this past week:

DevX Status Update

 Heating up

Hey everyone, back here on another Friday for a quick update on our latest shenanigans. With summer fast approaching us, we can already start feeling warmer temperatures. Here in Northern Ireland we were even able to see a rare meteorological occurence that happens barely once or twice a year: sunshine!

Anyways, lets get started with the updates.

 Hackathon

Remember the ‘May the 4th be with you’ Hackathon? Well, since this year it fell on Saturday, we had to push it a bit further into the month. As a result, we had a ‘May the 21st and 22nd be with you’, which doesn’t sound all that exciting in comparison. But we still had fun and even managed to work on two small projects in parallel. One of them being a new potential update for our linter tool that would allow you to scan your repos for depecrated stdlib function usage (and output a warning about it) and the other being an experimental project around implementing AI usage within PDK to enhance developer experience around failure troubleshooting.

 LXD provisioning

We wanted to throw a massive shoutout to Jeffrey Clark for developing and pushing a new feature into our bolt-litmus-provision ecosystem to enable LXD provisioning. It took us a bit to get it merged but it should be available with the next releases of those tools.

 Community Contributions

We’d like to thank the following people in the Puppet Community for their contributions over this past week:

pdk-templates#565
: “Add bolt-related files to .gitignore default paths”, thanks to jay7x

 Hello Again!!

Here we wrap up another completed and uneventful Friday. Once again, it was a relatively quiet period with no significant updates or notable events in our modules. Throughout the week, our majority of efforts were dedicated to completing projects initiated at the beginning of the quarter and addressing challenges in Forge.

 Community Contributions

We want to express our gratitude to the community contributors for their valuable contributions, even though last week saw a relatively quiet period in terms of new contributions.
