🚀 Mars Revive – Devlog: My Game Jam Journey to the Red Planet 🌕🛸
Hey folks,
Purvesh here! I wanted to take you along on the rollercoaster of building my game Mars Revive for “It’s Based Jam – Spring 2025” where the theme was The Red Planet. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how this whole alien-busting chaos came to life:

🛠️ Day 1: A Green Mars? WHY NOT.

Yeah, I know Mars is supposed to be red... but I gave it green grass. 😂 Why? Because Mars CAN be green if you believe hard enough.

Also, first look drop! Just started working on the vibe, early terrain, player controls, and setup. I was on the lookout for a 3D artist from day one — if you're one, let's collab.

👾 Day 2: ALIEN ALERT
Added aliens that chase and attack the player

Player can now shoot back 🔫

Started keeping track of ideas in a good old physical notebook (because some habits stick)

🎨 Day 3: AI Textures & First Custom Shader

Made some alien models and ship designs — used AI for textures and that really saved a lot of time.

First time making a custom shader! Tried to make a “magic pickup ball” — people said it looked like the moon 🌚. I'll take that.

🌊 Day 4: Waves & Destruction
Implemented a wave system

New objective: Destroy all enemy bases to complete a level.

Also made a mini-map and added:

Game over screen 💀

Level complete screen ✅

Blood-like health UI feedback 🩸

Didn’t get much time, but still pushed through.

👽 Day 5: Alien Hunting & Explosions
Spent most of the day searching for good alien models. After hours of hunting, I gave up and used AI — why didn’t I think of this earlier? 😤

Later, I added:

New alien variants

Explosions

VFX & Particles

🕹️ Day 6: Animation Set Complete
All animations are done and feeling smooth

Level design and polish is what’s left now

🧪 Day 7–8: PROTOTYPE IS OUT!
🎉 Mars Revive is live on itch.io!

Mars Revive - Itch.io Link
https://gamedevpurvesh.itch.io/mars-revive

This is the early playable build — looking for honest feedback!

💬 Feedback Round: Tweaking Controls & Damage
Got some feedback:

Controls felt a bit “unnatural”

Enemies weren’t doing enough damage

I asked for more clarity and realized I might need to make turning feel smoother and increase the alien threat level.

🎯 Day 9: Polishing & Drops
Added proper UI elements

Enemies now drop items

New SFX (that explosion sound? Chef’s kiss 💥)

🧪 Day 10–11: Final Levels, Boss & Secrets
Added multiple levels

Boss battle in the final one 🤫

Polished the main menu

Secret... yeah, there's a secret

🛸 Release Update: April 18
Game's updated and uploaded!
https://gamedevpurvesh.itch.io/mars-revive

🔫 Play. Fight aliens. Save Earth’s future.
Mars Revive - Final Build

🐞 Post-Release Bug: Alien Hide & Seek
Someone reported they couldn’t find the last alien

My response? “Maybe he got scared and hid behind rocks” 😂

Planning to add a pointer for remaining enemies in the next update

🪲 Extra Fix: Respawn Bug
Discovered a bug when the player dies

Temporary fix: Press P to restart the game — added this info on the itch page

🔍 Looking for Collaborators
I’m still looking for a 3D artist to help polish and expand Mars Revive further — if you’re into stylized sci-fi alien stuff, hit me up!

Thanks for following the journey,
🎮From Animation to Game Development: My Journey Choosing a Career

From the moment I was old enough to hold a pencil, I've been fascinated by animation. I'd spend hours doodling my favorite characters and dreaming of one day bringing them to life on the big screen.

One day, while exploring the depths of YouTube, I stumbled upon a Pixar studio tour that blew my mind. I was mesmerized by the intricate process of animation and knew then and there that I wanted to become an animator.

After diving headfirst into the world of animation for 3-4 years, I stumbled upon a whole new world - game development! I started tinkering with Blender's built-in game engine and found it to be the perfect fit for a non-coder like myself. But, as much as I loved it, I quickly realized that I could only create PC games.

Determined to expand my horizons, I scoured the internet for the best game engine to make phone games. I tried my hand at several engines, but none of them quite fit the bill. That's when my friend suggested the Unity game engine. I'd heard of it before, but my old computer couldn't handle it at the time. Now, with a new and improved setup, I was ready to tackle it head-on!

Since then, I've been on a mission to become the perfect hybrid of a game developer and animator. And guess what? It's working! Today, I'm proud to say that I'm working in the field of game development, doing what I love every single day.

The gaming industry is experiencing a revolution with the rise of cloud gaming. Cloud gaming is a technology that allows gamers to stream games over the internet without the need for expensive hardware. This means that gamers can access games on multiple devices without having to download or install them.

Cloud gaming is becoming more and more popular, with major players like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon investing in the technology. Google's Stadia, for instance, allows players to stream games on a variety of devices including TVs, laptops, and smartphones. Microsoft's xCloud service lets gamers stream games from their Xbox consoles to their smartphones and tablets, while Amazon's Luna offers games on multiple devices such as Fire TVs, PCs, and Macs.

The benefits of cloud gaming are numerous.
🔴 First, it makes gaming more accessible and affordable for gamers. Gamers no longer have to purchase expensive hardware to play their favorite games, as cloud gaming only requires a stable internet connection. This allows more people to enjoy gaming, regardless of their budget.

🔴Secondly, cloud gaming allows gamers to enjoy games on multiple devices, which makes it more convenient and flexible. For instance, gamers can play their favorite games while on the move, waiting in line, or traveling, as long as they have a stable internet connection.

🔴Cloud gaming also has the potential to create new business models for game developers and publishers. Subscription-based services and microtransactions are some of the ways that game developers and publishers can leverage cloud gaming to generate revenue.

However, there are some challenges that cloud gaming faces. The primary challenge is internet infrastructure, especially in areas with slow or unreliable internet connections. Cloud gaming requires a fast and stable internet connection, which may be a barrier for some gamers.

Despite these challenges, cloud gaming is a game-changer for the gaming industry. It makes gaming more accessible, affordable, and convenient. As internet infrastructure continues to improve, we can expect cloud gaming to become even more popular and widespread.

In conclusion, cloud gaming is a technology that has the potential to transform the gaming industry. It is a game-changer that offers accessibility, affordability, and convenience for gamers. The rise of cloud gaming is an exciting development that every gamer should try, and I'm confident that it will continue to grow in popularity as more people discover its benefits.
