I Built 17 Free Online Tools That Never Upload Your Files

Every time you use a free online PDF or image tool, your file is uploaded to a stranger's server. Your ID photo, your signed document, your family pictures — all sitting on a machine you know nothing about, for who knows how long.

When I started building the tools section of Pushpendra Tech, I made one rule on day one: the file never leaves the visitor's device. Everything runs in the browser itself. No server upload, no "we delete your files after 1 hour" promises — because nothing was ever sent.

What runs 100% in the browser today

PDF tools — merge, split, rotate, PDF to image, images to PDF, and unlock (for files whose password you know).

Image tools — compress image, convert between JPG/PNG/WebP, passport photo maker, and an AI background remover that runs a real ML model (MODNet) on the device itself.

AI tools — voice-to-text (Whisper) and photo-to-text OCR (Tesseract), working in English and Hindi, again fully on-device.

Everyday tools — QR code generator, password generator, word counter, age calculator, and a YouTube thumbnail downloader.

 How is this even possible?

Three things came together:

WebAssembly — near-native speed inside a browser tab. The AI models and PDF engines are compiled to Wasm and run locally.

Modern browser APIs — Web Workers keep heavy work off the main thread so the page never freezes; the File API means files are read in memory only.

Models got small — background removal and speech recognition models that needed a GPU server a few years ago now run happily on a mid-range phone.

The server only serves small static pages (a few KB). The visitor's own phone or laptop does all the heavy lifting — which also means the tools cost almost nothing to run, so they can stay free forever, with no sign-up and no watermarks.

 What I learned

Privacy is a feature people feel. The moment users realise their Aadhaar-size photo or exam form never gets uploaded, trust goes up instantly. For form-filling and exam photos — huge in India — this matters more than any fancy feature.

Speed follows privacy. No upload and no server queue means most tools finish before a server-based tool has even started uploading.

Free can be sustainable. When your compute cost per user is basically zero, you don't need paywalls, coins, or "Pro" popups every three clicks.

 Try them

All 17 tools are free at pushpendra.tech/tools — no account, no upload, no watermark. I also publish copy-paste AI photo prompts and daily tech guides on the main site, and the tools are a companion to my Android app ToolBox, which follows the same local-first philosophy.

If you build tools for the web, consider the browser-first route before renting a bigger server. Your users' files will thank you — by never meeting you.

— Pushpendra Singh, Pushpendra Tech (Gonda, India)
