He believes deeply in the inevitability of the transformative effect of AI on human society, and wants to be part of making that a transformation for the better.

In honor of Mother's Day coming up...

I thought maybe this week we could talk about different podcasts that anyone has listened to around family systems or parenting. What creators have you turned to to get advice for parenting?

This week we even have a BONUS THEME!

In Los Angeles on Monday, Elon Musk was featured in an interview, stating, "I listen to podcasts about the fall of civilizations to fall asleep". (Source)

I personally do not find this to be the most comforting bedtime media, to say the least. However, I can understand why delving deeper into our biggest fears can sometimes calm them. What do you think? Do you listen to doomsday podcasts?

Happy almost weekend to some of y'all! We are back with CodeNewbie Podcast, our little corner of DEV where we share weekly interviews with tech professionals to give you supportive advice to further your development career.

Last week we released our second episode of this season with Chelsea Kaufman, Founder and CEO of LEARN Academy. In this episode we chatted about the founding of Chelsea's company, the role of AI in the future, and the current landscape for bootcamps.

Why are all my podcasts switching to Youtube?

My once loved weekly podcasts have added in YouTube videos as one of their latest offerings. Maybe you've also noticed this change?

In a recent New York Times article, they report:

"[YouTube] is now the top platform for podcast consumption in the United States, overtaking both Apple Podcasts and Spotify. According to a survey published last fall, 28 percent of podcast consumers now do so on YouTube most frequently, compared to 15 percent who use Spotify and 12 percent who use Apple Podcasts. Those results are the reverse of five years ago, when 29 percent of consumers used Apple Podcasts and just 15 percent preferred YouTube."

I have many mixed feelings on consuming my podcasts digitally, mainly because I am on a lifelong quest to decrease my screen-time (even as a digital graphic designer). However, certain hosts are far too charismatic to limit to just audio, when video can much better serve comedic timing and expressions.

Alls to say, I have been enjoying quite a bit of YouTube podcast content while I wrap up my workday or fold my laundry. Finding the middle-ground between media that is a bit more engaging than a podcast and simultaneously not as engaging as a TV show is not a media gap I foresaw needing filled. I also hope genuinely to stay off screens more, of course. However, the content I have been engaging with is ultimately a net positive, something I look forward to, and something that helps convey complex messages quicker.

I always find it a bit difficult to deal with pacing, paying close attention, and finding a reader/narrator that is truly captivating to me. I am absolutely sure there are some incredible audiobooks out there, and would love to hear your favorites. Any genre appreciated!

Today many of you may know we experienced a solar eclipse in North America! If you are like me and you were lucky enough to view the eclipse, you may be filled with a slew of questions on the technicality of an eclipse itself. I know the Moon is passing through the Earth and the Sun, but why the heck is it happening right now, what does that truly mean, and how can I learn more about it?

Thus, this week's theme: all things eclipse/space! Give me your episodes explaining astrophysics, Heliology, solar eclipses, solar events, suns, moons, space, and all that jazz, I want it all!.

This week we released a new episode with our host @saronyitbarek's husband, Rob Frelow, Co-founder & Chief AI Officer at The Storygraph.

Rob tells us about his long-time love of technology that began when he was two, what first got him into AI, and how The Storygraph utilizes his AI system to gather data about books.

Side note: This has got to be one of my favorite episodes we have put out y'all. I love to track my reading goals and just found The Storygraph a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with their system. It felt like so serendipitous that I use their site all the time, that we got to have Rob on the podcast, AND that Rob and Saron are married. How beautiful is the world, holy heck.

At the end of each episode we have four main questions we ask our guests, then I bring my favorite question of the week over here, where we can chat all about it.

This week's question is: "What is one thing that you wish you knew when you first started to code?"

Rob had a great response, which you'll have to tune in to hear fully, about the need to be prepared for errors. He sai that one of the first college projects he worked for he pulled an all nighter for, he had 133 errors. When he found the cause it was because of 1 semicolon, and once he fixed that it fixed everything. In his words, "It shouldn’t work the first time you try it! All problems are solvable!"
