I built an AI-powered mood-based prompt writer, and here’s what it made me wonder

I just built my first project, which is a mood-based prompt writer. It is essentially a program that takes the user’s mood as input, and then the AI builds a short writing prompt based on that specific mood. As a reader and writer who was super worried about my first official project, it just made sense to make something I might actually use.

After building it, however, I started wondering deeply about AI generative content and its effects on art. As a person in the creative world, I have seen the destructiveness of it. AI art winning art competitions, AI-generated music and AI-generated novels being passed off as one's own writing are currently destroying and undermining the current landscape. So after building it, I feel in a dilemma, am I endorsing exactly what is destroying something I love? What is it exactly that separates my project output from theirs?

There’s also the nuance of AI’s usefulness. The immense amount of tedious work done by AI in seconds; people with lesser resources using AI as a teacher to improve their skills and craft for a lack of better resources; or even a tool like mine, which can potentially help authors get out of writer’s block by giving a tiny push at the starting point. So where is the line?

The distinction, in my opinion, is intent. The intent to use it as assistance vs. to use it to replace one's own creativity entirely, that’s where the difference lies. What I made was to assist me to get me out of a block; it doesn’t replace my own creativity, but somebody just sends prompts to AI and generates an entire full-length story without thinking about the actual work, and immense time needed to build something like it, just to gain fame without the work, and thinks that's ok? That’s the issue. It undermines the efforts and works of people who actually try to present their own imagination and creativity. The people who actually should be getting recognition and appreciation get buried under these generated outputs, which have nothing to do with the actual craftsmanship of a human being.

What’s worse is that we are losing track of what’s real, and that’s a terrible thing happening in the current situation. AI is being used not only to replace human creativity but also as a weapon against others. The pattern of using AI like this isn’t isolated to one place or age; it’s happening everywhere all over the world. The main problem isn’t what AI can do, it’s what we are using it for, and that cannot be fixed by any law, regulation or enforcement. If it stops being legal, people will just find other ways to do it because, in their opinion, it’s not wrong, so why should they stop?

I am not claiming to be knowledgeable in this or that what I am saying is the absolute truth. This is what I think, and I thought it might be worth sharing.

I'd love to know where other builders and creators are drawing this line for themselves.
