Developer advocacy is a broad field with multiple responsibilities. It can generally be categorized into three main roles:

Developer Experience Engineering – This role focuses on enhancing developer productivity and satisfaction. It involves API design, improving documentation, and ensuring seamless developer interactions with products.

Developer Marketing – Though often less preferred by technical professionals, this role includes user journey tracking, competitive analysis, and promoting developer tools through strategic campaigns.

Community Management – This role emphasizes building and nurturing developer communities via online forums, hackathons, and social engagement. Unlike the other two, it requires less technical expertise and is more focused on relationship-building. These roles are highly interconnected, and in many organizations, developer advocates must adapt and take on multiple functions.
