Building a Universal Video Player with Zero Dependencies: Unifying HTML5 and YouTube

Building a universal video player comes with several challenges, especially when combining HTML5 video and YouTube.

Why Standard YouTube Embeds Ruin UX

Standard YouTube embeds can cause iframe leakage, broken layouts, and inconsistent user experiences. They make it difficult to maintain a unified player interface.

Transparent Click-Interceptor

A transparent click-interceptor helps shield stream links while still allowing users to interact with legitimate controls, including skipping ads.

Common Provider Interface

To unify different video sources, the player uses a common Provider interface. This allows HTML5 and YouTube to work through the same player architecture.

Multiple Packaging Formats

The library supports three formats:

ES Module
UMD Bundle
Autonomous Web Component

This makes integration easier across different web development environments.
