 It is well known that early start of drug use can lead users to psychosocial problems in adulthood, but its relationship with users' direct healthcare costs has not been well established. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;To estimate the direct healthcare costs of drug dependency treated at a community mental health service, and to ascertain whether early start of drug use and current drug use pattern may exert influences on these costs. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Retrospective cross-sectional study conducted at a community mental health service in a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The relationships between direct healthcare costs from the perspective of the public healthcare system, age at start of drug use and drug use pattern were investigated in a sample of 105 individuals. A gamma-distribution generalized linear model was used to identify the cost drivers of direct costs. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The mean monthly direct healthcare costs per capita for early-start drug users in 2020 were 1,181.31 Brazilian reais (BRL) (274.72 United State dollars (USD) according to purchasing power parity (PPP)) and 1,355.78 BRL (315.29 USD PPP) for late-start users. Early start of drug use predicted greater severity of cannabis use and use of multiple drugs. The highest direct costs were due to drug dependence combined with alcohol abuse, and due to late start of drug use. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;To investigate associations between cardiovascular risk factors (age, physical inactivity, smoking, alcohol use, hypertension and diabetes) and lower cognitive performance among middle-aged (45-64 years) Brazilian adults. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Cross-sectional study nested within the Pró-Saúde cohort. From 2,876 baseline study participants (1999), we randomly selected 488 participants and gave them validated and standardized cognitive tests (2012). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We used multiple linear and logistic regression analyses to detect associations of cardiovascular risk factors with crude scores in cognitive tests on memory (word test) and executive function (verbal fluency tests), and with overall cognitive performance scores, respectively. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;All cognitive test scores presented statistically significant inverse associations with age and direct associations with education. There was no association between lower cognitive performance and smoking or alcohol use. In both 1999 and 2012, after adjusting for sex, age and schooling, being physically active was inversely associated with lower performance regarding late memory. For individuals with diabetes in 1999, there was an association with lower performance regarding executive function, while there was a borderline association for those reporting it only in 2012. Having a diagnosis of hypertension since 1999 was associated with lower performance regarding both memory and executive functions, while reporting hypertension in 2012 was associated with lower performance regarding executive function. &lt;/p&gt;

 Diabetic ketoacidosis is the most frequent hyperglycemic complication in the evolution of diabetes mellitus. Common precipitating factors include newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus, noncompliance with therapy and infections.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Gliflozins (sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitors or SGLT2is) are the only glucose-lowering agents that have proven their ability to reduce major cardiovascular events, hospitalisations for heart failure and the progression to end-stage kidney disease in at risk patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). One of the most marked and reproducible effects is the reduction in hospitalisations for heart failure. This protective effect was observed in all large prospective cardiovascular outcome trials, independently of the presence of heart failure at inclusion, and was confirmed in two dedicated trials that specifically targeted patients with heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, with or without diabetes DAPA-HF with dapagliflozin and EMPEROR-reduced with empagliflozin. The reduction in hospitalisations for heart failure appeared more marked when baseline renal function was impaired, including when estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was inferior to 45 ml/min/1.73 m². These favourable results contribute to give a privileged position to SGLT2is in more recent international guidelines produced by diabetologists, cardiologists and nephrologists. According to these guidelines, the prescription of SGLT2is should be extended to patients with an eGFR between 30 and 60 ml/min/1.73 m² as well to non-diabetic patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction. For other patients with preserved ejection fraction, one has to wait for further results from ongoing large prospective trials.Previous studies have established a positive correlation between democracy and health. The geriatric assessment makes it possible to detect frailty and provides assistance in the development of a personalized care plan while respecting the quality of life.Recently, brentuximab vedotin (BV) (Adcetris®) obtained the reimbursement in Belgium for the treatment of the primary cutaneous NKT-cell lymphomas mycosis fungoides (MF), large cell anaplastic lymphoma and lymphomatoid papulosis type A. BV is a monoclonal antibody directed against the CD30 expressed on tumoral T cells. The inhibition of this pathway releases the process of apoptosis leading to the cell death of the tumoral cells. BV is reimbursed after the use of another systemic treatment without success and if the number of CD30 positive atypical T-cells is larger than 10 %. BV is administered intravenously every 3 weeks with a dosing of 1,8 mg/kg with a maximum of 16 courses. The response rates exceed 75 %. In some instances, interesting treatment responses have been observed with BV in CD30 negative patients. The principal adverse effects are neutropenia and peripheral neuropathy. Two patients are presented with longstanding multi-resistant MF that were successfully treated with BV.Prolonged standing or even sitting position can induce a fall in arterial blood pressure because of gravity that provokes a blood volume sequestration in lower limbs. Such a phenomenon may be associated with orthostatic dizziness or sometimes syncope. We present the image of a continuous monitoring using a Finometer® of systolic blood pressure and heart rate. Crossing legs while in sitting position allows immediate increase of arterial blood pressure. This pathophysiological mechanism explains why numerous people cross legs in sitting position, for instance during a prolonged meeting, in an auditorium or in a movie theater. This common phenomenon has potential diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic implications.A swimbladder is a special organ present in several orders of Actinopterygians. As a gas-filled cavity it contributes to a reduction in overall density, but on descend from the water surface its contribution as a buoyancy device is very limited because the swimbladder is compressed by increasing hydrostatic pressure. It serves, however, as a very efficient organ for aerial gas exchange. To avoid the loss of oxygen to hypoxic water at the gills many air-breathing fish show a reduced gill surface area. This, in turn, also reduces surface area available for other functions, so that breathing air is connected to a number of physiological adjustments with respect to ion homeostasis, acid-base regulation and nitrogen excretion. Using the swimbladder as a buoyancy structure resulted in the loss of its function as an air-breathing organ and required the development of a gas secreting mechanism. This was achieved via the Root effect and a countercurrent arrangement of the blood supply to the swimbladder. In addition, a detachable air space with separated blood supply was necessary to allow the resorption of gas from the swimbladder. Gas secretion as well as gas resorption are slow phenomena, so that rapid changes in depth cannot instantaneously be compensated by appropriate volume changes. As gas-filled cavities the respiratory swimbladder and the buoyancy device require surfactant.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Wastewater treatment is the most serious problem in this upcoming era. A harmful effluent like organic dyes, heavy metals, acids from industries mixed in wastewater is deteriorating the environment. To get rid of these poisonous materials and to recycle wastewater for domestic purposes, there are many steps which included photocatalytic dye degradation. PVP assisted Mn-CdS nanoparticles was prepared by novel hydrothermal technique. The characteristic behavior of pure and PVP (1% and 2%) assisted Mn-CdS samples were studied by further analysis. The structural, optical, vibrational, morphological, chemical composition behavior of synthesized pristine and surfactant induced Mn-CdS nanoparticles were analyzed. UV-Vis spectra revealed the optical behavior of the prepared pure and PVP (1% and 2%) assisted Mn-CdS samples. The bandgap obtained was 2.2, 2.06 and 1.99 eV for pure Mn-CdS, 1% PVP-Mn-CdS and 2% PVP- Mn-CdS. The narrow bandgap is one of the advantage of the material. Mn-CdS, 1% PVP-(Mn-CdS) and 2% PVP- (Mn almost 98% of efficiency up to three cycles which confirmed the level of potential of the sample. 2% PVP-(Mn-CdS) sample would be promising candidate in wastewater treatment. It can be further utilized for removing dyes from wastewater in wastewater remediation process.Although pyrite bio-dissolution plays an important role in the processing of sulfide ores, the formation of passivation film inhibited the further dissolution of sulfide ores. In order to enhance the dissolution of sulfide ores, a novel method for destroying the passivation film using ozone was proposed and verified. The generated passivation film inhibiting pyrite dissolution in the presence of Leptospirillum ferrooxidans and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans was studied. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results indicate that a passivation film mainly consisting of jarosite and polysulfide (Snn-/S0) might be formed during biotic stage, which can be eliminated with the introduction of ozone (2 g/min) in 30 min. Electrochemical results show that ozone significantly increased the electrochemical reactivity of passivated pyrite, further proving that ozone enhanced the dissolution of passivated pyrite through destroying the passivation layer. Hence, a bi-stage method for dissolution of sulfide ores can be proposed.The reaction mechanism of dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) oxidation on LaMnO3 catalyst was investigated using density functional theory calculations. The results showed that CH2Cl2 dechlorination proceeds via CH2Cl2 → CH2ClO → HCHO. The adsorbed Cl∗ and formaldehyde (HCHO) are identified as the important intermediates of CH2Cl2 dechlorination process. The dissociated Cl atoms prefer to adsorb on the surface Mn sites. Surface hydroxyl groups are not directly involved in the CH2Cl2 dechlorination process, but react with the adsorbed Cl∗ to form HCl. The energy barrier of HCl formation is lower than that of Cl2 formation, indicating that hydroxyl groups facilitate the removal of adsorbed Cl∗ species. Three possible pathways of HCHO oxidation with the assist of lattice oxygen, active oxygen atom and hydroxyl groups were investigated. HCHO catalytic oxidation contains four steps HCHO → CHO → CO → H2O desorption → CO/CO2 desorption. Compared with the HCHO oxidation by lattice oxygen and hydroxyl groups, HCHO oxidation assisted with activated oxygen atom is more thermodynamically favorable. However, these past and current activities can also lead to substantial environmental contamination by various metals. Here, we used an interdisciplinary approach (incorporating archaeology, mineralogy, environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology) to investigate the origin, fate and potential ecotoxicity of anomalous manganese (Mn) concentrations detected in the ancient mining district of Berthelange (medieval period, eastern France). Mineralogical investigations of slag samples showed that smelting temperature conditions in medieval bloomeries led to the production of slags mainly composed of Fe- and Mn-rich olivine, i.e., fayalites. Further mineralogical analyses of bulk soil and clay fractions allowed us to identify the presence of serpentine. This evidence of olivine weathering can account for the release of Mn from slags into the soil. In addition, chemical analyses of total and available (exchangeable and reducible) Mn concentrations in soil samples clearly showed the contribution of slags deposited 1000 years ago to soil contamination. A complementary ecotoxicity bioassay performed on soils from a slag heap using the land snail Cantareus aspersus confirmed that a significant fraction of the Mn detected in soils remains available for partitioning with the soil solution and transfer to soil organisms. Although no growth inhibition of snails was observed after 28 days of exposure, the animals accumulated quite elevated Mn concentrations in their tissues. Our study emphasizes the environmental availability and bioavailability of Mn from ancient metallurgical wastes to soil-dwelling invertebrates, i.e., snails, even one millennium after their deposition. Hence, as for more recent industrial sites, past mining ecosystems must be a cause of concern for the scientific community and public authorities.Two euryhaline rotifers, the temperate species Brachionus plicatilis and tropical species Brachionus rotundiformis, were used to investigate the effects of iron (FeSO4·7H2O), an essential trace metal, on reproductive patterns and lifetables, including the metabolism of lipid and reactive oxygen species (ROS). B. plicatilis was more sensitive to iron with regard to sexual reproduction. While iron had no significant effect on the population growth at 0-48 μg/mL, it caused a decrease in the resting egg production. B. plicatilis exposed to 6 and 12 μg/mL of iron showed an increase in the intracellular ROS levels and a decrease in the neutral lipid content in sexual organs, accompanied by downregulation of antioxidant components CuZnSOD and two cytochromes (CYP clan 2&amp;amp;3). These patterns suggested that iron-induced oxidative stress was not neutralized by its antioxidant defense system, thus negatively affecting the fecundity of fertilized mictic females. All rights reserved.Trochanteric femur fractures are frequently fixed with a four-hole side plate sliding hip screw device, but in recent decades two-hole side plates have been used in an attempt to minimize operative time, surgical dissection, blood loss and post-operative pain.The aim of this review was to determine whether two-hole sliding hip screw constructs are an acceptable option for fixation of AO-OTA 31-A1 and A2 trochanteric femur fractures.An electronic MEDLINE® database search was performed using PubMed®, and articles were included in this review if they were reporting historical, biomechanical, clinical or outcome data on trochanteric fracture fixation using a two-hole sliding hip screw device.A two-hole dynamic hip screw with a minimally invasive muscle-splitting approach is recommended for fixation of AO-OTA 31-A1 simple trochanteric fractures; this implant is biomechanically safe, and allows the use of a minimally invasive muscle-splitting approach which potentially provides better clinical outcome, such as decreased surgical trauma, shorter operative time, less blood loss, decreased analgesics use, and shorter incision length. As the majority of reviewed publications relate to the dynamic hip screw, it is not clear whether the above recommendations can be extended to any other sliding hip screw device.An intramedullary device is recommended for all other extra-capsular proximal femoral fractures. Reported union rate of ETO is high.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Although toxoplasmosis is asymptomatic in most cases among pregnant women, it may cause newborn abortions and birth defects if the infection occurs during pregnancy. Therefore, raising awareness and promoting good practices of pregnant women towards toxoplasmosis disease is essential to avoid infection during pregnancy. The aim of this cross-sectional study is to assess toxoplasmosis awareness and its risk-related behavior pregnant women who attended public health centers in one of the biggest Moroccan cities Casablanca. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A structured questionnaire was used to collect data including socio-demographics data, awareness of etiology, modes of transmission and preventive practices towards toxoplasmosis. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This study survey showed that among 390 pregnant women interviewed, 41.2% reported having heard or read information regarding toxoplasmosis. Only 8.1% of them knew that toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii, and 13.7% of those who gave a correct answer were aware that the host of toxoplasmosis is cats. There is a significant statistical association between age, level of education and profession of pregnant women and toxoplasmosis awareness. Despite of the majority of the interviewed pregnant women had had effective preventive practices towards toxoplasmosis, 17.4% of pregnant women were convinced that Toxoplasmosis can transmit to the fetus and 14.3% stated it is asymptomatic in most cases. &lt;/p&gt;

 To explore the prevalence of depressive symptoms and the associated risk factors in frontline nurses under COVID-19 pandemic. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This cross-sectional study was conducted from February 20, 2020 to March 20, 2020 and involved 562 frontline nurses. The effective response rate was 87.68%. After propensity score matched, there were 498 participants left. Extensive characteristics, including demographics, dietary habits, life-related factors, work-related factors, and psychological factors were collected based on a self-reported questionnaire. Specific scales measured the levels of sleep quality, physical activity, depressive symptoms, perceived organization support and psychological capital. Adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were determined by binary paired logistic regression. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Of the nurses enrolled in the study, 50.90% had depressive symptoms. Three independent risk factors were identified poor sleep quality (OR = 1.608, 95% CI 1.384-1.896), lower optimism of psychological capital (OR = 0.879,ese findings enrich the existing theoretical model of depression and demonstrated a critical need for additional strategies that could address the mental health in frontline nurses for policymakers. &lt;br&gt;
 Childbirth experience could be complicated and even traumatic. This study explored the possible risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder following childbirth (PTSD-FC) in mothers and partners. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Through a cross-sectional online survey biographical, medical, psychological, obstetrical and trauma history data were collected. The PTSD-FC, postnatal depression, social support, and perceived mother-infant bond in 916 mothers and 64 partners were measured through self-reported psychometric assessments. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Our findings highlight the possible impact of several risk factors such as emergency childbirth, past traumatic experiences and distressing events during childbirth on PTSD-FC. The difficulties in mother-infant bond and the postpartum depression were highly associated with the total score of PTSD-FC symptoms for mothers. While for partners, post-partum depression was highly associated with the total score of PTSD-FC. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Our study demonstrated significant links between psychological, traumatic and birth-related risk factors as well as the perceived social support and the possible PTSD following childbirth in mothers and partners. Given that, a specific attention to PTSD-FC and psychological distress following childbirth should be given to mothers and their partners following childbirth. &lt;br&gt;

 Persons with MS (PwMS) often display symptoms of depression and fatigue. Mindfulness-based interventions are known to counteract these symptoms. However, to-date the exact relations between trait mindfulness, depression and fatigue remain to be examined. Fatigue is generally regarded as a symptom immanent to the disease and as a direct neurobiological consequence of increased cytokine levels and cortical atrophy. In depression on the other hand, psychosocial factors in the context of adaptation difficulties are probably of higher relevance. TAK901 Hence, one may argue that mindfulness, as a trait that promotes successful adaption, may show a strong negative association with depression and a relatively minor negative association with fatigue in PwMS. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In the current study, the association between self-reported trait mindfulness, fatigue and depression was examined in a sample of 69 PwMS. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Trait mindfulness showed highly significant negative correlations with both, depression and fatigue. Mediation analyses however, revealed that depression mediated the relation between mindfulness and fatigue. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;It may be concluded that in PwMS, trait mindfulness shows a genuine negative association with depression, but that it is only secondarily associated with fatigue. Implications for mindfulness-based interventions in MS are discussed. Based on the results of the current study, it may be feasible to promote the acceptance of default fatigue symptoms, instead of an actual reduction of fatigue symptoms. &lt;br&gt;
